Daily life of a cultivation judge-Chapter 1405: Dependable comrades (1)
"You really do not have the best of luck, do you, Miss Suyun?" thought Yang Qing, sighing as his pitying gaze fell on the thin red saber a few meters away from him.
Luo Suyun’s timing was horrible, and aside from the Green Flame Tree’s reaction and aggressive stance towards her, there was still Yang Shitong.
There could not have been a worse matchup for the saber spirit than Yang Shitong. There was his personality, which did not take kindly to threats and held a vindictive and petty aspect that jumped at the opportunity to repay any slight... with interest.
Then there was also the fact that the vindictive bird, on top of being vindictive and a mythical race member, just so happened to be a Celestial Nesting Weaver.
A Celestial Nesting Weaver’s forte lay in their ability to mold any treasure into any form they liked, which was what they used in building their nest, as it was an amalgamation of countless treasures blended and merged in perfect harmony for their needs.
Any treasure, whether natural or man-made, was a pliable ingredient they could effortlessly bend to their will. It did not matter if it was a natural dao treasure or an awakened spirit artifact; if both landed in their hands, they suffered the same fate.
They had complete dominance over them. So to Yang Shitong, it did not matter whether Luo Suyun was a fourth-stage palace realm expert, placing her two minor stages above him, or that she was the awakened spirit of a saber with an awakened saber intent born from the slaughter of hundreds of thousands. All of that was useless before Yang Shitong, because his abilities allowed him to innately suppress her. And if he wanted to, he could have effortlessly destroyed her entire form and converted it into energy for the nest with the same ease with which he sealed her.
It truly was the worst matchup for her. And as much as Yang Qing felt sorry for her, he was glad things played out the way they did.
Luo Suyun was raw in many ways, and certain things could only be taught to her through firsthand experience. And better it happen here in a controlled environment than outside, where Yang Qing was not close by.
"She should be out for five or six days," thought Yang Qing as he analyzed the slumbering fluctuations of Luo Suyun’s spirit. "I should have settled matters by then... hopefully. But just in case..."
Yang Qing turned his attention from the saber to Yang Shitong, who was busying himself with the recipe list. "I will be leaving in a few hours, and I might be back later today or early tomorrow, or maybe it might extend beyond that. In case she stirs awake, could you watch her?" Yang Qing said to Yang Shitong.
"She will not be awake for six days," Yang Shitong breezily commented, his focus still on the recipe. "Where are you going?" he asked, looking up at Yang Qing as he placed the recipe to the side.
"An auction," said Yang Qing. "It is not a big auction house, and I am not there to buy anything. It is for the case," he immediately added when he saw the profiteer’s glint shining in Yang Shitong’s eyes.
"Is it really for the case?" asked Yang Shitong as he eyed Yang Qing suspiciously. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"All this time, have you ever seen me go to auctions?" said Yang Qing, his sharp gaze falling on Yang Shitong.
"Well, there was that one time..." Yang Shitong said, smiling.
"Forget that one time," Yang Qing said in haste, interrupting Yang Shitong mid-sentence, using all his might to control the cadence of his tone so it remained even and unagitated(which it was not) and also going to great lengths to control his neck muscles and minimize the movement of his eyes, which were threatening to dart toward Han Lei to see if he had caught on to what Yang Shitong was alluding to, even though it was irrational for him to think so.
But given how embarrassing that particular incident surrounding his one and only auction experience had been, his apprehensive reaction was understandable.
Not to mention, he was also worried that Yang Shitong might decide this time was as good as any to embarrass him. He would not put it past his nasty personality to do so, as he had done countless times before.
Luckily, this time he did not, as Yang Shitong only smiled amusedly before going back to his fantasized reading of the recipe list.
Yang Qing secretly sighed in relief that his dark secrets still remained locked away in the lightless abyss where they needed to be, hopefully for the rest of his life.
With Luo Suyun’s matter settled, he moved to face Han Lei, who, as expected of a veteran assassin, looked calm and settled. At least outwardly, that is.
"Sorry for the little interlude," said Yang Qing, throwing Han Lei a friendly smile. "Now, on the matter I called you for," he swiftly continued as he invited Han Lei to one of the tables closest to them.
"I need you to look into something for me," he continued once they had both sat down. He wrote a few things on a piece of parchment, which he then handed over to Han Lei.
"The four names listed there belong to the same person," said Yang Qing as he pointed to the first four names listed on the parchment. They were the list of aliases used by the Aurora Dark Winter Jade Spruce Tribe member.
"And the places listed below are where he has been active or been sighted, though that only applies to the first seven places listed there.
The remaining places are just guesses of mine. While I want you to look into all the places, the greater part of your focus should be on these guesses," said Yang Qing, pointing to the latter part of the list.
