Daoist Competition-Chapter 284 - 9 Birthday Banquet Changes_2
Chapter 284: Chapter 9 Birthday Banquet Changes_2
The hall instantly fell silent. Yan Zhenhua was about to step forward when the Daoist shot him a sharp glance and shouted, "I speak only with your elders, keep quiet, Yan juniors!"
Under the glaring gaze of the Daoist, an inexplicable fear arose in Yan Zhenhua’s heart. He had just taken a step forward but then abruptly withdrew it.
All the others in the hall, including Zhang Yan, were guests and did not know the relationship between this Daoist and the Yan family, so they all remained silent.
At this point, Elder Yan had yet to arrive, and the guests had yet to begin offering their toasts. Yan Duo, who was inside entertaining a few elders, hurried over upon hearing the commotion outside. Seeing the scene before him, he frowned, waved a hand to order a maid to lower the curtain in the front hall, glanced at the youth lying on the ground, stepped forward two paces, and clasped his hands, saying solemnly, "Your Excellency, who are you? Grabbing my nephew—what do you intend to do?"
The short and fat Daoist sneered coldly, saying, "Oh? So he’s one of your Yan family’s kin? Very well, your nephew killed my disciple for no reason. Today, the Yan family must give me an explanation no matter what!"
The red-haired youth looked at Yan Duo but did not shout or make a sound, only bowing his head in silence.
Yan Duo sighed softly and asked in a deep voice, "Fang’er, is what he said true?"
The red-haired youth’s body shook slightly, and he replied softly, "This Daoist need not speak."
Yan Duo was stunned for a moment, then shouted angrily, "Why did you do this?"
The red-haired youth murmured in a low voice, "You all are celebrating grandfather’s birthday. Why shouldn’t I be permitted to come? I am his grandson too. I know etiquette, but since I had no gift for him, I simply went and robbed one to celebrate grandfather’s birthday."
Upon hearing the truth, Yan Duo’s face turned ashen with rage. He could only exclaim repeatedly, "Wretch! Wretch!"
Yan Xiyue glanced at the red-haired youth and softly said, "Daoist Yan, could it be that he... is the one they call Red-Haired Lad?"
Yan Zhenhua smiled bitterly, saying, "You’ve seen it for yourself, Daoist Yan. This rascal causes all sorts of trouble wherever he goes. If he hasn’t stirred things up for three days, he can’t sit still. Now everyone knows of his origins."
Seeing Zhang Yan’s bewildered expression, Song Hong, eager to establish rapport, leaned over and whispered an explanation.
Only then did Zhang Yan understand. It turned out that Elder Yan once had a rather unruly son who, in his youth, ventured into the mountains to subdue demons. There, he fell in love with the female clan leader of the Beast Demon Tribe, married her, and bore this child.
That son of Elder Yan, feeling ashamed to face his parents, sent his half-human, half-demon son back to live with the Yan family.
Fortunately, Elder Yan did not drive the boy out and kept him within the family. However, having grown up among the Demon Tribe, the youth had a wild nature. When the elders at the Yan mansion tried to discipline him, he would talk back. Over time, no one bothered managing him anymore, leading to his unruly and unbridled behavior.
Yan Duo hadn’t expected that during the patriarch’s birthday celebration, this boy would cause such a scene, embarrassing the family before their guests. Trembling with anger, he finally exclaimed, "Our Yan family has no place for descendants like you!"
The short and fat Daoist grinned wickedly, saying, "In that case, let me strike him dead with one palm—life for a life!" After speaking, he truly raised his hand for a blow.
Seeing this, Yan Duo was both shocked and furious. His earlier words had been spoken in anger, and now was his father’s birthday celebration. How could his grandson be killed during the event? He hadn’t thought the Daoist would truly act, so he quickly rushed forward to stop him.
But just at that moment, a sly glint flashed in the Daoist’s eyes. He flipped his hand and pulled out an ancient copper mirror as large as a golden basin. As he waved it at Yan Duo, a streak of green light shot forth and captured Yan Duo inside it. Immediately, the Daoist grabbed the red-haired youth and turned to leave.
"Not good!"
Song Hong was startled and alarmed. As Linqing Sect’s senior disciple and someone friendly with the Beichen Sect, he couldn’t stand idly by in the face of such an incident. He opened his mouth and spat out a shimmering yellow light, at whose tip was a Small Jade Axe cutting through air, and within moments, the axe reached the Daoist’s back.
The short and fat Daoist let out a strange laugh, swirled his robe, and unleashed a shower of sparks like fiery embers scattering outward.
The moment those sparks touched the Small Jade Axe, the axe trembled in mid-air, its Spirit Light dimmed, and with a soft "plop," it fell to the ground.
As the two clashed, Yan Xiyue also reacted swiftly. With a sharp cry, a nimble white fox flew out from her sleeve and dashed toward the Daoist’s face.
The short and fat Daoist burst into laughter and blew a breath towards the fox. The fox instantly seemed to be struck by a hammer, let out a pained cry, and collapsed weakly on the ground.
Song Hong witnessed this with horror and exclaimed, "A Hua Dan Cultivator!"
A green glow flashed in the Daoist’s eyes as he coldly shouted, "I had no intention of implicating others, but since you’ve gotten involved, don’t blame me!"
He flipped the ancient mirror, which emitted a radiant beam of light aimed at Yan Xiyue first. Her complexion paled as she tried to flee but to no avail. She was enveloped by the light and captured, just like Yan Duo.
The beam then turned toward Song Hong. Sensing the Daoist raising his hand, Song Hong tried to dodge, but the light pursued him instantly, capturing him in one stroke.
Within moments, as the beam circled the hall, everyone in the room except Zhang Yan was collected.
Yet, oddly enough, whatever the Daoist had done seemed to prevent the commotion from reaching those outside.
Seeing the beam turning toward him, Zhang Yan let out a cold laugh, transformed into a soaring rainbow of light in an instant, and burst through the roof, flying away. When the beam chased him forth, it failed to keep up.
The short and fat Daoist frowned, muttering to himself, "That brat escaped using sword escape. Fine, I’ll let him go. If I don’t leave now, even though I don’t fear Old Man Yan, I cannot afford to provoke the two Nascent Soul Elders of Beichen Sect in seclusion."
With that, he transformed into a streak of tunneling light and surged towards the heavenly vault. From atop the clouds, he shouted, "Yan Zhengting, if you want to find your son, come to the East Sea White Dome Demon King!" freeweɓnovel~cѳm
