Chapter 360: 177. Daily Life Heading Towards Winter Camping (6)_2

The library at Goda High School wasn’t as big as a university’s, but there were fewer students as well, so there were plenty of empty seats at the moment.

The two of them found seats close by so that Kunii Shuichi and Ichiki Aoi would be able to see them when they arrived.

Once seated, they immediately began to study, not saying a word.

The library was filled with warm air, and Kiyono Lin’s originally tense body gradually relaxed.

Five minutes later, Kunii Shuichi and Ichiki Aoi came over side by side.

"Sorry, we’re late," they greeted as they sat down.

Kiyono Lin remained silent, while Dubian Che grunted a response without looking up.

Ichiki Aoi took off her scarf and suit jacket, leaving her in a shirt and beige knitted sweater.

She rubbed her hands together, took out her workbook, and buried herself in it.

Kunii Shuichi looked at her and then Dubian Che, wanting to say something but hesitating before reluctantly turning to look at his book.

At 4:45, the preparation bell rang. During this time of winter, it was already time to leave school.

The library remained eerily quiet, with only the hum of the heating system.

Off in the distance, a few students hurrying to their cram schools were packing up their bags to leave.

Ichiki Aoi had been staring at a math problem for three minutes, and finally, she decided to seek help from the three of them.

Who should she ask for help?

Kiyono Lin was a girl with better grades than hers, but she had a cold personality, and even after the Wind Music competition and the school field trip, their relationship hadn’t changed at all;

Dubian Che, number one in the nation—just a glance at his eyes revealed his frightening intelligence, but recalling the personal attacks she’d experienced in the music classroom, she decided against it;

That left only Kunii Shuichi.

It might be a bit awkward, but he probably wouldn’t mind her interrupting him, right?

"Um, Kunimi," she said in a low voice.

"What is it, Ichiki?" Kunii Shuichi had been covertly watching Ichiki Aoi out of the corner of his eye.

"This problem," Ichiki Aoi turned the workbook in another direction, "could you please help me look at it? I’m not very good at math."

"Oh, sure."

Kunii Shuichi looked at it for a full minute, filling up a page of scratch paper.

He felt that another page might help him find the right approach, but under the staring eyes of Ichiki Aoi, he decided to ask for outside assistance.

"Dubian, Dubian, what’s the answer for this problem?"

Dubian Che lifted his head and glanced at it, recognizing an inverse function problem, asking for the range of x.

He had done so many of the same problem type that he could estimate the values without computation, circling the choice (a²-1/2a, a) before returning to his own work.

"The process, explain the process too," insisted Kunii Shuichi.

"Once you know the answer, think it over yourself. Don’t always be a freeloader," Dubian Che lectured.

Kunii Shuichi turned to Ichiki Aoi with the workbook, blinking innocently. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel-com

The crop-haired baseball toughie making such a pitiful face was just too out of place, and Ichiki Aoi ’pfft’ chuckled, covering her mouth with her hand.

Kunii Shuichi scratched his head, embarrassed.

Just as he was about to seize the victorious moment and strike up a conversation, Kiyono Lin glanced at Ichiki Aoi, who was laughing quite happily.

Ichiki Aoi immediately closed her mouth and took back her workbook, staring intently at that problem.

Kunii Shuichi: "..."

At six o’clock, Kiyono Lin shifted back to the Human Observation Department, and Ichiki Aoi went to check in with the Wind Instrument Club, while Dubian Che and Kunii Shuichi left school together.

At the shoe lockers, Kunii Shuichi said,

"Could you figure out a way to keep Kiyono from coming tomorrow?"

"What’s the issue?" Dubian Che asked, pulling out his sneakers and bending down to put them on.

"Earlier, when I made Ichiki laugh, I was about to take the chance to talk to her, but then Kiyono gave me a look, and I was so scared I couldn’t say a word."

"Are you dumb?" Dubian Che stood up straight, placing his indoor shoes in the locker.

"What do you mean?" Kunii Shuichi was quick to change his shoes; his laces were never undone, he simply shoved his feet in.

"Ichiki Aoi likes girls, so what’s the use of chatting with her anyway? Besides, it was supposed to be a study session, and chit-chatting would be counterproductive."

"But organizing a study session was just an excuse to talk with her."

"So, chatting leads to a decline in grades and potentially getting rejected when you ask her out again; not chatting keeps grades stable or improving, leading to a potential ’yes’ the next time you ask. Which path do you choose?"

"The second one?"

Dubian Che closed his locker and patted his shoulder,

"Stay with her for the long haul, and you’ll always find a chance. You need to learn to see things with a long-term perspective."

"You really are something!" Kunii Shuichi admired, "What exactly is a long-term perspective? Can you elaborate?"

"Let’s discuss it over KFC."

"Not a family restaurant? Wait, am I treating again?"

"Did I not help with the study session? Want the ’long-term perspective’ or not?"

"Alright, alright, there goes my new game purchase for the month," Kunii Shuichi surrendered, "You really have the nerve, dating Miss Jiutiao and still making me pay all the time!"

"What are you complaining about, you guy with a house in the Shinjuku District? My family is so poor we only have a Honda motorcycle and a K-car."

Dusk fell, and the moon began to faintly emerge in the sky.

After enjoying a free dinner, Dubian Che and Kunii Shuichi bid each other farewell at the entrance of KFC, and he boarded the train to Chiyoda.

The yard at Jiutiao Meiji’s place was already wide open to him.

"Where’s Meiji?" he asked one of the maidservants.

"Miss is in her bedroom..."

Dubian Che took the stairs three at a time, quickly ascending to the third floor.

"Knock, knock, knock." He pretended to knock lightly on the door, occasionally adding a playful flair.

"What is it! Didn’t I say not to disturb me?" Jiutiao Meiji’s deep voice came through.

"Knock, knock, knock."

After a short wait, the door opened.

Jiutiao Meiji, with a grimace, hadn’t yet registered what was happening before Dubian Che swept her up in his arms.
