Chapter 4599 - 3680: Issues in the Magic Academy (Part 2)

"How's it going?" Scarlet Witch Wanda brought Shiller a cup of coffee. Shiller, sitting at the desk without looking up, said, "Our trip to Massachusetts yielded no progress, no beneficial changes."

"Are the environmental issues that significant?" Wanda slightly frowned and said, "Why not just go to space? There's plenty of room, and no pollution."

Shiller chuckled while looking down, saying, "Ma'am, we established the Magic Academy to cultivate talents capable of maintaining the Earth Magic Defense Network. If we place the Magic Academy outside the Magic Defense Network, then what's the network protecting?"

"I really don't get it," Wanda said, "Why don't you try the coffee's temperature then? That's something I'm good at."

"Thank you, ma'am." Shiller took a sip of the coffee and commented, "The temperature is just right, and the flavor is pretty nice too."

Wanda smiled and stood up. Shiller glanced at the side of his desk and then called out to her, "They've already sent over your internship report, ma'am. If I sign it now, you can immediately update your resume and job hunt freely; if it's delayed a week, I can recommend you to my colleagues at the Hopkins exchange conference. What do you prefer?"

"What do you think?" Wanda walked over and closed the door, saying, "Interning here feels completely different from working at a community hospital. There, it's more about efficiency. As long as more people get treatment, it doesn't matter how I conduct myself. But since I came here, I have to make sure I'm gentle enough, greeting everyone with a smile. No matter how rude they are, I have to control my temper."

"That's actually not a difference between hospitals," Shiller said, "You'll see two completely different types of nurses at the New York Elderly Association Hospital's rehabilitation department versus the emergency room. Which one you want to be completely depends on which you prefer."

"Which one would be more useful? I mean, to save more people and relieve them from their sufferings."

"You can't really compare like that."

"I thought you'd say emergency room."

Shiller shook his head and said, "Arm wrestling with the God of Death is indeed commendable, but sending off a soul tormented by illness with grace is equally valuable. There's no superiority between the two."

"This leaves me at a bit of an impasse." Wanda sat down and said, "I think I can do well in both areas, but I can only choose one. Which one do you think I should try first?"

"Emergency, still."

"Why?"

"Considering your sensitive nature, ma'am," Shiller said, scribbling on the document, "Emergency can keep you too busy to ponder excessively, which is beneficial for your mental state."

Wanda thought carefully and nodded. Shiller handed her the internship report and said, "Come see me anytime you have an idea."

After Wanda left, Shiller continued reading the files in his hand. He wasn't dealing with rehabilitation-related work, but was still going through reports related to the Magic Academy.

Dingling, the phone rang. Shiller picked it up.

"Hello? Nick? Yeah, not settled yet. I'm reviewing the damned data from those testing agencies, though I don't understand how stacking a few small stones on land that's evolved for 4.6 billion years can cause such destruction. But out of respect for the environment, I'm still trying to understand."

"Yes, I know it's not environmental issues. But rather than 'should people from other universes be allowed in' and 'is it safe for them to come here' questions, I'm more concerned about Mother Earth."

"Alright, go ahead with your meeting. But don't expect any constructive comments from me. I really need to understand if building a castle will affect the underground water flow there."

After hanging up, Shiller placed the projector in front of his desk and operated it, connecting to the communication. Many avatars appeared in it, including Nick, Steve, Stark, Loki, Strange, Professor X, and so on.

"Good morning, everyone." frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

"Good morning."

"It's not morning here."

"Okay, hope you're all well."

After some casual greetings, they got straight to the point.

"The issue of granting access between universes is meeting significant resistance," Nick said straightforwardly, "Congress is almost unanimously opposed, Asgard remains noncommittal, and the Three Great Empires won't agree. What do you think?"

"This concerns our whole cosmos," Steve said, "We can't act alone. The key issue is if people from other universes come and cause trouble, and it makes its way back to the universe, the human race would be blamed."

"Didn't Spider Man's arrival cause no trouble?"

"That's Spider Man! Even if you tied up ten thousand Spider Men together, they might not cause as much trouble as one Batman. They just have louder voices. Barking dogs seldom bite," Nick shook his head and said.

"Better be careful Batman doesn't place cameras in your bedroom," Stark sneered, "For all we know, they're aware of everything we're saying right now."

"Anyway, I think it's shaky," Loki said, "On the surface, we're just recruiting students from various universes, but what if their parents insist on visiting? We can't refuse guardians wanting to visit the school, but their presence would make many people nervous, including the locals. Not everyone can handle a weirdly clothed person roaming around at night. We pride ourselves on our simple ways here!"
