Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 291
Early in the morning...
"So, we are finally making a move, huh?" a young man spoke to the others.
"Yes, it looks like the higher ups for whatever reason, wanted to add Rock City to the list of ever-growing warzones", another replied.
"Yeah, for some reason, the higher-ups are upping the war. More areas are getting attacked every now and then. Now it would be the turn of the Rock City", another commented.
"I fear that things were getting too much out of hand recently", another spoke in a low voice.
"The reasons don’t matter. As long as we do what we are supposed to do, we will be rewarded. Isn’t that why we joined the cults?" the last of the five put an end to their discussion.
Five young men, who grew up together, joined the cults together too.
Why?
They offered a way to break their limits.
They didn’t want to suffer under others. So, they buried their morals and did what the cults told them to do, and for that, they got rewarded, but that was clearly not enough to boost their strength to a higher value than the rich and powerful whom they hate.
As they rose in ranks inside the cult that they joined, they started to learn more about the world, the true world.
Normally, it was known that Skill Points earned from level up are used to upgrade the rank of a skill, but they came to know that that was not the only way.
There are resources that can improve skill ranks without using any Skill Points. There are resources that would give Skill Points without the need for one to increase their level.
That was true even for the attributes. One doesn’t need to depend solely on FSPs. There are ways to increase strength without increasing the level or rank.
They learned that this was the reason why the rich are strong, even if they are of lower ranks.
The five too wanted such privileges, but these resources are already too low in availability. Even after years of work, they couldn’t find a way to get their hands on those resources, but the new mission would give them the chance.
As long as the Rock City burned, they would be rewarded with those resources that they had been waiting for years. If they miss out on this chance, there will be no other chance to gain those resources again in the future.
Chances to get hands on rare resources are very rare and wouldn’t appear daily or not even for months on end. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
So, when one of them heard the hesitation in someone regarding what to do, he immediately shut all of them down.
Talking too much is dangerous. No matter what they were discussing beforehand, it would slip up, and another matter would take its place. It would, one way or another, the topic of the collateral damage that they are going to cause today could come up.
They had killed innocents before, but those were all combat professionals. So, they just chucked that away, saying that combat professionals see death every day. If not them, some monster inside a dungeon would do so.
Saying to themselves, they killed many professionals, but now, it was different. They were supposed to light the entire city on fire, something not everyone among them was prepared for.
Until the orders came, the idea of destroying an entire city was just an idea, but now that it was going to become a reality, some of them were feeling a bit wrong.
If such thoughts were continued or brought up again, it could jeopardise their mission, which the fifth man couldn’t let happen. Though there was no selected leader among the group, he decided to take charge for the night.
The resources that he and the team wanted were almost in their hands, and he was not going to let some emotions destroy the chance of getting those resources. He and the team has caused the deaths of hundreds, and most of them are young talents who have no idea why they were killed by them.
It was either because they hated the child’s family or the child had awakened a powerful profession, which could be a danger in the future. So, eliminating them while they were still budding was a good choice, a choice for their survival.
Even this is nothing more than that.
"Don’t speak about anything other than how to complete the mission and create more chaos and destruction. Nothing more", the man stated, "Now let’s move and prepare for the mission".
Once the man gave the orders, others followed without raising a question or making a comment again regarding what the collateral would be.
---
Things were going well. They made necessary preparations for the attack. Once night falls, they would act, and the Rock City would know once again the terror of the Cults. The reason for the night attack was simple.
Fire caused by destruction would be bright in the dark, and most of the city could see it, which means more chaos and fear among the people.
It has been years since a major incident connected to the cults occurred in the city. Most were wiped out years ago during an assault operation by the alliance.
It was now their time to return to the stage.
As dusk fell, they arrived at the Goblin Dungeon, a place which would be busy at the start of the academic year, but after that, no one would be there, which made it the best place to enact their plan.
At that moment, a young patrol member sighted them. This guard was very young. If not for the badge that he was wearing, they wouldn’t have known that the young one was one of the patrol members. To avoid commotion, which could bring reinforcements quickly before they could complete their mission, they slightly turned away from their destination, hoping that the patrol member would leave them.
Instead, the young boy started walking towards them in a steady manner. At first, they didn’t think much, but as the boy neared them, they could see the frown on the boy’s face. Seeing that expression, they understood that for some reason, the boy must have felt something wrong with them and decided to check.
They have no idea what alerted the boy, but there are limited paths they could take at this moment.
The group of five looked at each other and suddenly bolted, each in a different direction. They didn’t want to get caught, and if by chance one of them gets caught, another can complete the mission.
"What the hell? Hey, stop. This is city patrol. Stop this second", the young man barked out loudly and started the chase.
