Deities: Starting From Goblins-Chapter 927 - 530: The Firewood that Illuminates the Heavens_2
Chapter 927: Chapter 530: The Firewood that Illuminates the Heavens_2
Even if they are blind, is everyone else blind as well?
Can’t the others discern right from wrong, the black and white of a situation?
Maya Leaf’s remarks struck the Johnson Family like a gong on the head.
Not that it woke them up, but it certainly gave them pause for thought.
If the original intent was to preserve their reputation, then blindness was no longer an option.
A few exchanged glances, none spoke out, nor insisted on retribution.
Maya continued.
“It seems the Elders have their own considerations. I’ve said my piece, and I hope you all think carefully. Don’t ruin the Johnson Family’s century-old reputation, nor our futures.”
With that, she did not linger any longer but turned and left.
The Elders watched her retreating figure and fell into deep contemplation.
Suddenly, one of them asked.
“What do you all think?”
“I believe Maya has a point. I didn’t expect this branch did so many atrocious things. If we still insist on troubling them, I’m afraid we might end up being accused of abusing our power.”
“Indeed, ignorance might have been bliss before, but now that we are aware of these facts, for the sake of the entire Johnson Family’s reputation, we should reconsider our actions. The discerning eyes of the world are upon us; we must tread carefully.”
As a vast Family Clan, the Johnsons also needed to attract powerful individuals.
If they were perceived as unjust, it could deter those powerful individuals from getting involved.
Wouldn’t that be counter-productive?
Ultimately, after some discussion, the Elders decided to hold off on any action for the moment.
It was the same Oldest Elder who didn’t bring up the topic of attacking. Instead, he mentioned something else.
“That girl Maya gives me a strange feeling. Ever since she returned from the Secret Land, she has become rather peculiar. Her actions make me wonder if it has something to do with Logan.”
This Elder seldom spoke, but every time he did, it caught everyone’s attention.
The others seemed to respect him quite a bit. When he brought this up, their attention immediately shifted.
“That’s true. Since she emerged from the Secret Land, Maya has changed her ways considerably, and her strength has increased significantly. Occasionally, she even seems absent-minded, which is not a behavior she used to exhibit.”
The Elder didn’t elaborate, but in his heart, he added a phrase.
As if… she had a crush.
Maya’s pride was so fierce that she looked down on everyone, could it be that she would one day be smitten with someone, silently yearning?
The Elder couldn’t figure it out, but this didn’t stop him from having his suspicions.
Lately, there had been no one special, no significant events, so this Elder had kept his suspicions to himself. But now, hearing the Oldest Elder mention it, he immediately connected it with the doubts he had previously set aside.
The other Elders nodded in agreement.
As the Johnson Family’s key trainee, Maya was closely watched in everything she did.
But indeed, after she came back from the Secret Land, she was different than before.
“This child used to be decisive and ruthless, but on a recent mission, she actually forgave her Spirit Beasts.”
“Somehow, she even spared her opponent, even when that opponent was from the Johnson Family. Isn’t such behavior a bit too indecisive?”
“Elder, are you worried that Maya’s change is detrimental to the Johnson Family?”
Initially, Maya was the sharpest blade wielded by the Johnson Family.
But now this blade had flaws, an unwarranted kindness.
A blade, once humanized, could become dulled.
They didn’t know if the Oldest Elder was worried about this, but they certainly were.
The Oldest Elder, however, just shook his head.
“No, you are all looking too superficially, seeing only the surface. Never mind, send a few people to investigate the Secret Land discreetly. After the investigation, we’ll consider the results.”
The Oldest Elder left them guessing, not spelling things out directly.
The others thought about it and agreed that it made sense, so they decided to wait for the conclusions of the investigation.
They set aside the matter, planning to discuss it again once the results came in.
…
Meanwhile, Maya paced back and forth in her room, her mind in turmoil.
I wonder what the Elders ultimately thought about Logan and how they planned to deal with him.
She had submitted so many pieces of evidence of his crime; it should have been enough to change their minds a bit.
Yet she still didn’t feel confident, even with the reputation of the Johnson Family not providing any reassurance.
After walking for a long while, she felt tired, sat down in her place, and poured herself a cup of tea. Drinking it down, her spirit felt somewhat soothed.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
Maya Leaf’s gaze became alert.
“Who is it?”
“Miss, it’s me.”
The voice of her personal maidservant, also her confidante, sounded from outside.
Knowing it was her confidante, the alertness in her eyes lessened considerably.
“Come in.”
The maidservant quickly opened the door to enter and then carefully closed it behind her.
Maya Leaf, somewhat anxious, didn’t wait for the servant to approach before asking.
“How did it go; did you find out anything about what I told you not to inquire about?”
The maidservant nodded.
“I couldn’t get close to the Elders’ discussion because of my lowly status, so I don’t know what they are planning. However, I heard from other members of the Johnson Family that they don’t seem to be preparing for battle like before. The Elders have withdrawn many people and, it seems, for now, they do not plan to deal with that Logan.”
Hearing this, although uncertain of its truth, Maya Leaf finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Phew, it looks like the Elders must have listened to me, or maybe they have other plans. In any case, a pause allowing one to catch a breath is a good thing.”
She murmured to herself, seemingly lost in thought, her voice so soft that the maidservant couldn’t hear clearly.

After struggling to discern, still unable to make it out, she asked.
“Miss, what did you say? Is there anything else?”
But Maya Leaf simply waved her hand.
“No, there’s nothing else. You can go now.”
The maidservant tilted her head, puzzled, but obediently left.
Once she was gone, Maya Leaf, now much more serene, approached the window and pushed it open.
Gazing at the bright skies outside, she quietly brought her hands together and prayed.
[Oh, heaven above, you must protect Brother Logan. Please don’t let anything happen to him; he is a good man, and I don’t want to stand opposed to him.]
Anyone could be her foe, but she didn’t want to face Logan in battle.
Logan had no idea that someone was praying for his safety or that someone was doing everything in their power for his wellbeing.
Having killed Dwayne Johnson and crippled Father Johnson’s cultivation level, anyone else a bit fearful of death would have left by now.
That’s what the townspeople believed, but Logan hadn’t left.
Laughing to himself, why should he leave if he wasn’t in the wrong?
Simply because he feared the Johnson Family Clan’s retaliation?
No, the moment he struck, the moment they arrived at his doorstep, he wasn’t afraid in the slightest.
He was moved by Little White, who had dared to kidnap his little fox; the price they paid was still too light.
Thus, he comfortably settled down in the small town, doing whatever was ordinary for him.
To the amazement of the townsfolk, his reputation began to spread far and wide.
Firstly, for his formidable strength, and secondly, for his alchemy skills.
It turns out, after he took root here, he opened an elixir shop.
At first, people came just because of his reputation, not expecting much from the elixirs.
But once they tried them, they realized these were superior-quality elixirs, a cut above the common grade, including some top-notch elixirs.
And so, it was as if someone had poked an ant’s nest, and the whole town buzzed with excitement.
“Eh, have you heard? The guy who barged into the Johnson’s place didn’t flee; he actually opened an elixir shop right in our town!”
“Heard about it, heard about it. He’s really impressive, huh? Killed Dwayne Johnson and even crippled Old Master Johnson but hasn’t faced any trouble. I was worried the Johnsons would seek revenge, but it’s been days with no sign of them. You think it’s because he’s so powerful that even the Johnson Family Clan doesn’t dare to mess with him?”
“That’s very possible. Otherwise, with the Johnsons’ temperament, how could they sit idle for so long?”
