Delayed Passion: Miss Lynch's Unrequited Love-Chapter 26: Nina Sinclair’s Show Got Canceled
The aunt coming back from buying groceries caught her before she could sneak out.
"Hey, Miss Lynch is back?"
"Why are you staying outside? It’s so hot. Come in, come in."
"..."
Thea Lynch stepped back a few paces, "I’m heading to the Cheney Family’s place for some urgent work. I’ll be back later."
Hearing that she had work to do, the aunt didn’t try to stop her. Thea, in her heels, hurried off to the Cheney Family’s place. By the time her aunt heard the commotion and came out, only the aunt with the groceries was left at the door.
"Was it Thea? I heard her talking just now, where is she?"
"Miss Lynch said she had urgent work and went to find the young master of the Cheney Family."
——
Recently, Mr. Cheney’s health hasn’t been good, so Silas Cheney has been spending most of his time here. With Mr. Cheney resting, Thea and Silas were having tea in the living room.
When he heard she was here to avoid someone, Silas laughed unkindly, "What’s going on between you and that Rhodes kid?"
When asked about that, Thea didn’t quite know how to explain.
She hesitated, and Silas got it.
"He’s chasing you, huh?"
"Pretty much." Thea took a sip of tea and let out a little gasp from the heat. She set down the teacup to recover.
"His mother is also quite pleased with me. Now, mother and son are at my house, but they probably weren’t there to see me today. I just ran into them by bad luck."
Silas clicked his tongue but didn’t see it that way.
"Even if they weren’t there for you, I bet they’re cozying up to your mom because of you."
Thinking of what Ian Preston had said on the phone a couple of days ago, Silas laughed, a double entendre slipping out: "Persistent, huh?"
Thea just felt a headache coming on, "I’ve already turned him down."
"Not much you can do, I hear that Rhodes kid hasn’t dated anyone before, finally finds someone he likes. And the first one he likes makes such an impression, oh boy, it’ll be hard to move on."
Thea raised an eyebrow, "My fault?"
Silas raised his hands in surrender, "My bad, my bad. Speaking of which, it’s Chinese Valentine’s Day tomorrow, right? Isn’t he going to ask you out? You better come up with a good excuse."
"I’ve already turned him down, why bother with excuses?"
Silas was at a loss for words.
"Besides, we’re not even together, why celebrate a holiday like that."
"So, what are you planning for tomorrow? How about going out with me? I’ve got a dinner tomorrow, wanna come?"
Silas had a great network, filled with many affluent friends from Coronet. Thea didn’t want to join in the fun and didn’t like those gatherings.
"No way. I’ve got work tomorrow."
Silas: "..."
First time seeing an employee more eager than the boss.
"If you keep this up, should I plan on going public just to keep up with you?"
"Great idea." Thea snapped her fingers, "Go Silas!"
Now it was Silas’s turn to have a headache, "What kind of employee did I hire for this, you’re the boss, right?"
It was really like they swapped roles, the boss wasn’t acting like a boss at all, not caring about the company’s future. While the employee wasn’t acting like one either, so ambitious, just short of pulling a coup and taking the company public overnight.
"Looks like Stratus might really depend on you in the future, won’t be long before I have to work under you, President Lynch?"
Thea clinked her teacup against his, "Sounds good."
Silas: "..."
"HR hired you a new assistant, how’s that going?"
"How would I know? We’ve barely spoken two words."
The TV was still on, Mr. Cheney had forgotten to turn it off earlier. Just as the commercial finished, a program began.
"Good evening, viewers, I’m today’s host Nina Sinclair."
Thea raised her eyebrows slightly and picked up the teapot to pour some tea.
Silas didn’t even glance at the TV behind him, called out to the aunt, "Aunt Wang, turn off the TV."
He continued chatting with her.
Thea, resting her chin on her hand, watched the TV, "Why turn it off? I haven’t watched her show before, seems pretty popular."
"What’s there to see?" Silas dismissed, "It’s all pre-recorded."
"Does it matter?"
Silas mused, "Of course. Soon, you won’t be able to see her show anymore."
"Hmm?"
The aunt came over to turn off the TV, and Thea took a final glance at the person on the screen.
Nina had her long hair tied up, wearing a light pink professional outfit, looking quite poised. But what caught her attention more was Nina’s voice.
Nina was professionally trained. After returning from her studies abroad, she joined the Coronet TV station. Her voice was indeed excellent—clear, pleasant, and perfect for her career.
Online, people said she was the successor to a key host at Coronet TV. As long as she didn’t have any issues, it would only be a matter of time before she took over.
Silas tapped the table, signaling for her to stop watching. Thea snapped out of her thoughts and listened to him continue.
"Her show is getting canceled."
"With such high ratings, why?"
"Why else? She annoyed someone." Silas winked at her. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"..."
Thea immediately caught on, quickly distancing herself, "Me? I don’t have that kind of power."
"You’re the Lynch family’s treasure, why wouldn’t you have that power? If you wanted to deal with her, just a word would be enough."
Though it was a tease, Silas wasn’t exaggerating.
The Lynch Family was strong over four generations, with none of them being pushovers.
Thea’s grandfather’s father was a war hero, having died on the battlefield. Later, her grandfather replaced his father and returned from the battlefield with his life. The achievements of just these two elders were enough to support the future generations of the Lynch Family.
Not to mention, Thea’s uncle and father, one in business, one in the military, and even Thea’s brother.
None of them were small figures. The one who might seem a bit lesser was the youngest, Thea. If Thea had the ambition, she could easily step into her parents’ roles.
What’s more, Coronet wasn’t like other places. Here, circles mattered the most. Even the richest businessmen had to show some respect when meeting people from such circles.
They had connections beyond ordinary imagination.
In Coronet’s elite circles, the Lynch Family was well-known. Especially during the years Thea’s parents were around, people queued up to curry favor with Thea.
That’s why Silas said, provoking Thea could backfire if she wanted to move against someone.
"It really wasn’t me." Thea sat up straight, not understanding why he thought it was her doing. "I might not like Nina, but I’m not going that far."
"I never said it was you."
"Then why are you looking at me?"
"Even if you didn’t do it, maybe someone else is helping you vent your anger."
He smiled mischievously, "So who could it be, caring so much for you? Turning off someone else’s ’lifeline’ just because of your one word."
