Delayed Passion: Miss Lynch's Unrequited Love-Chapter 56: The Untouchable True Love
The old Mr. Bell was genuinely carried away, getting more and more enthusiastic, so eager to settle the wedding date with the old Mr. Preston right there and then.
"Old Preston, say something! Quick, give a word to Mr. Lynch!"
Feeling like his own words wouldn’t have much impact, the old Mr. Bell kept patting the old Mr. Preston’s shoulder, urging him to speak up.
The old Mr. Preston hadn’t been drinking for long, and was still completely sober.
Thea Lynch exchanged a glance with the old Mr. Preston, silently sighing in relief.
Ian Preston had perfectly inherited his grandfather’s good traits, staying calm and composed even as chaos unraveled before him. Not to mention he wasn’t drunk, even if he was, he’d never follow on the whims of the old Mr. Bell.
First of all, marriage is not child’s play, and the old Mr. Preston was very traditional, unlikely to agree easily.
Secondly, among the elders present, her grandfather was the oldest and held the highest military rank in the compound. Since her grandfather opposed strongly, the old Mr. Preston definitely wouldn’t insist.
Thea Lynch initially thought she had found an ally, but unexpectedly, after a brief gaze at her, the old Mr. Preston shifted his attention to Ian Preston beside her.
The next moment, he uttered two words slowly, seemingly satisfied, seemingly emotional: "That’s fine."
"Thea should go back and consider it carefully."
"..."
"Dad, let’s not meddle in the youngsters’ affairs. Thea might not even like Ian."
Rarely did someone speak for her, standing on her side. Pity, the person was Ian Preston’s mother.
Thea didn’t mind, regardless of the motive behind the words, the outcome was what she desired.
Hearing this, the old Mr. Preston said solemnly, "If you really thought that way, you wouldn’t have been in such a hurry to pair Ian with the Sinclair family a while ago."
Unveiling her true intention openly, even knowing the old Mr. Bell was present, the old Mr. Preston spared no face for Honor Auntie.
Thea wasn’t surprised, but rather reflective.
Reflective about how Ian and the old Mr. Preston’s personalities seemed to be cast from the same mold.
A moment of awkwardness pervaded the scene.
As juniors, Thea and the others surely couldn’t interject at such a time, leaving the four pretending to be deaf and mute, each with different thoughts.
Turning towards Thea Lynch, the old Mr. Preston smiled gently, "Thea, remember what Grandpa said."
"Although the old Mr. Bell’s words might seem ridiculous, there’s one point I strongly agree with."
"Compared to those guys outside, Grandpa thinks those in the compound match you better. Take the young director from the Rhodes family, how dare he have designs on you, a bold attempt indeed, wanting to marry up."
"Luckily, your standards are high, not liking him was wise. Just a couple of days of flattery, and he assumed he could whisk you away, quite a dreamer."
The old Mr. Preston glanced at the three young ones present, snorting softly, "They’re all still single, none get in line here, no way the Rhodes family boy gets a turn."
"..."
Grandpa Cheng suddenly felt he’d be out of sync if he weren’t to express his opinion, "Old Preston’s words, quite agreeable."
With a big gesture, he almost had Thea Lynch selecting a date on the spot, "Don’t just look at your third brother, your fourth brother may seem unreliable, but he’s quite dependable."
Thea Lynch’s mouth twitched severely, how did a decent family gathering suddenly turn into a grand matchmaking event?
Indeed, they’re all grandfather’s grandsons, each promoting their own.
During the meal, Thea casually found an excuse to step out for some fresh air. The moment she stepped out of the Bell Family’s door, she felt the air around was much fresher.
Hearing footsteps behind her, she shifted aside to make way.
Following her out was Sean Bell.
He leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, gazing at her with a mischievous smile.
Thea Lynch stood below him on the steps, two steps apart from him. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"You’re out at the perfect time." She waved him over, signaling him to come down to chat.
Sean Bell didn’t move, "Want to whisper secrets to me again? Wouldn’t be related to the ’choosing a date’ earlier, would it?"
As expected, she wasn’t the only one feeling like it was a ’choosing a date’ event, an unfruitful mutual understanding grew.
"Not that." Thea glanced at him, "Those are just drunken words, anyone would take them seriously."
Sean Bell naturally replied, "I would."
"..." Thea took a deep breath, signaling him with her eyes, "Come down, let’s talk business."
Her expression turned serious, with subtle signs of anger emerging. Probably if he teased a bit more, this girl would blow up.
Sean Bell found her anger particularly amusing, too bad, he wouldn’t see it today.
He followed Thea to a corner of the yard, "What does my young master want to chat about today?"
Thea didn’t care for his teasing nickname, proceeded talking about the previous matter.
"Did Third Brother know from the start it began because of me?"
"Did you know?"
Sean Bell chuckled, "Talking about this again? Nothing else to discuss?"
Thea pressed her lips, staring at him silently.
After a few seconds, Sean Bell smiled, "I knew, yes."
"When? From the start?"
"Sort of." Sean Bell’s response was vague, sensing her curiosity, he added, "Third Brother is that smart, figured it out instantly, not much can be done about that."
Thea remained silent.
Seeing this, Sean Bell sighed heavily, turning away.
"You doubt this, you doubt that, what do you want me to say?"
"The truth, of course."
"The truth huh..." Sean Bell pretended to be hesitant, keeping Thea in suspense. "Well, I definitely can’t tell you that."
Thea’s curse words nearly slipped out.
Sean Bell: "At least not now."
"But this answer isn’t so crucial for you, don’t fret. Once I’m ready to say, you’ll naturally know."
"Or, you could ask Third Brother." Sean paused here, slightly leaned forward, getting close to Thea, seeming to see through her thoughts with his dark eyes.
"Oh wait, if Third Brother were willing to talk, you wouldn’t be asking me."
Thea: "..."
Sean Bell had just planned to stand upright when he caught a glimpse of a figure emerging from the entrance through the corner of his eye. His brow lifted slightly, a playful look passed through his eyes, body lowering further, one hand supported on the side, a classic wall slam stance, stopping Thea from leaving.
"What are you doing?" Thea’s view was completely blocked by him, having no clue someone was approaching.
Sean Bell smiled innocently, leaning closer to her ear, "To make up for it, let me tell you another little secret."
Thea’s rebellious instinct surfaced, "I don’t want to hear it now."
He ignored this, proceeded, "Shortly after you went abroad, rumors in Coronet circulated about Third Brother being single because of unrequited love for a ’White Moonlight’. This notion spread widely at the time, even the old Mr. Preston knew."
"If it were false, you know how Big Brother reacts."
"The interesting part is, Big Brother never denied it."
