Delayed Passion: Miss Lynch's Unrequited Love-Chapter 99: Heartbreak
"You’re quick to run, aren’t you."
"Is it really necessary? Just because of Silas?"
This morning, when Sean found out she had left Coronet, he was indeed a bit flustered.
Although he quickly learned where she was headed, he still couldn’t relax.
He wanted to watch the show, sure, but this wasn’t the outcome he wanted.
"Running away makes it no fun, Thea."
He almost uttered the words "coward."
Thea turned over, looked at the phone on the other pillow, expressionless.
"Run, my ass. I’m working."
"Tsk." Sean was displeased, "I’ve told you, we’re the same kind of people. Why be so hypocritical with me? Do you really think I don’t know your intentions?"
"Since Young Master Bell is so well-informed, why bother making this call? Did you call to get scolded?"
Thea wasn’t in a good mood and was less polite to him, "If you need that, just say so directly, don’t waste our time beating around the bush."
"From your tone, it seems last night wasn’t pleasant."
Sean did call to get scolded; soon his tone reverted to the usual annoying one, "What, did Silas say something to upset you? Tell me, let me have a laugh."
Thea politely sent him a couple of greetings. Sean laughed; to him, her curses were as effective as scratching an itch, not harmful at all. They even made him feel inexplicably pleasant.
He’s a bit of a masochist, Thea always knew that. "From today onwards, don’t let me hear you mention this again. Otherwise, we’re done."
He was about to reply when Thea coldly warned, "Sean, I’m serious."
Hearing this, Sean could more or less guess what happened last night.
Whether he took her words to heart or not, Thea didn’t ask, she just continued, "I’ll let you mess with other things, but not this one...absolutely not."
Last time, when he "tricked" her into a dinner party and played pranks, she wasn’t really angry.
Even though he’s a bit unhinged and has done his share of outrageous things, they were still within her tolerance.
He hadn’t crossed the line.
But this time, Thea was truly serious.
Her meaning was very clear; if Sean dared to keep tugging at this matter, mentioning it between her and Ian, or anyone related, trying to stir up trouble, she would definitely cut ties with him.
This wasn’t just talk.
"I thought Silas was the only one so upset."
"..."
Thea frowned, then couldn’t help but ask, "You saw him?"
Last night, when Ian left her place, she hadn’t paid attention to the time.
The atmosphere then was so oppressive; she had prepared for a tough confrontation but ended up retreating halfway.
Once again, she acted the coward.
"Silas, I’m not feeling well, need to rest, please close the door on your way out." Saying this, she went to her bedroom, locked the door, and refused communication.
He didn’t try to stop her, nor said another word.
She didn’t know when he left; the master bedroom was too soundproofed. Though it was so quiet, she couldn’t hear a sound from outside.
When she got up in the morning, the living room was devoid of his presence.
The beads on the floor and the tea set on the table had been tidied up, leaving nothing of him behind.
Thus, she didn’t know what time Ian left, or if Sean had seen him last night or today, or how he was feeling.
Anyway, last night his mood didn’t seem particularly good.
No surprise there; with her rejection, anyone would be upset. Another might not have even had the chance to run.
She really did piss him off.
Only she managed to scrape by.
"Yeah, I saw him. Shortly after Silas left your place, I ran into him. Not just me, Silas Cheney was there too."
"Mhm."
She responded, not asking further.
But Sean knew what she was thinking and considerately continued, "I’m telling you, last night Silas was worse off than your side."
"Hmm, how to put it."
"Sort of like..." He paused, seemingly seeking the right word.
Thea instinctively wanted to interrupt, sensing he wouldn’t say anything good, but it was too late. Her mouth just couldn’t keep up with Sean’s erratic thoughts.
He spoke without hesitation or deep thought, voicing whatever came to mind.
"Heartbroken? Yeah, that’s it. Like he lost his first love or something."
Thea: "..."
"If you can speak, do. If not, shut up."
Sean raised his eyebrows, then spat, "I take back that last part."
Taking a deep breath, Thea picked up her phone from the pillow, turned off the speaker, and put it to her ear, "I really don’t want to scold you anymore."
"I took it back."
"Aren’t you childish."
After a moment’s silence, Sean thought of a good solution, "Alright, tomorrow I’ll head to Glyndorn early."
"Hm?" Thea didn’t get it, unsure what stunt he was pulling now.
"I’ll have a chat with The Celestial, let him give you some of my lifespan. Thea, so you can live to a hundred."
His tone was serious, each word full of sincerity, not at all joking.
Thea choked, gripping her phone tightly, feeling her forehead throb.
This time she really didn’t know what to say, "No need, just act a bit more normal."
"Weren’t you back at the complex last night? How did you see Silas and Sean again."
She quickly changed the topic.
"Silas called, asked me to go out. Don’t even mention it, tsk." He sounded displeased, lazily recounting Silas’s "crimes" to her.
"Late at night, Silas has some issues too. Called me over, and then inexplicably punched me."
"...Silas hit you?" That didn’t seem right.
If Silas hit Sean, they’d definitely fight to the death, and the news would have reached her by now.
It could only have been Ian.
Thinking of how yesterday was stirred up by Sean, Thea figured he deserved the punch.
"Here’s something amusing; this noon, Nina Sinclair came to the complex."
Thea said nothing.
"But she didn’t come in. She stood at the gate for a while and was chased off by the guards."
"Oh."
"That’s all the reaction I get?" Sean was a bit dissatisfied, "Then let me tell you something more amusing to cheer you up."
"Silas is investigating The Sinclair Family; rumours say Nina’s dad accepted bribes not long ago. Tsk, they probably can’t escape this time."
