Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 109: A Shattered First Love
Chapter 109: A Shattered First Love
Mallory’s face burned with bashfulness when Thane stood in front of her. She knew the sort of personality he had, and was surprised he stopped to hear her out.
She stole a glance over her shoulder at the woman seated in his car, and felt her heart break.
It must’ve been because of her, he caved.
Realizing that only made her want to run up to her room and cry, but she planted her feet firmly into the ground, determined to say what was on her mind.
"What do you want?" He asked civilly.
She lowered her head, avoiding his piercing gaze.
"I’m sorry for causing a scene at your father’s birthday yesterday." She started off.
Thane did not respond, he didn’t know why she was saying that to him and not to his father.
He glared at her, somewhat disappointed. When he meet her in the past, she was calm to be around, and he did not mind having conversations with her.
But they were mostly about her aunt and her condition, seldom did their conversation branch out to trivial topics like dinner plans or what not.
He didn’t expect her to end up becoming a pawn from the family to tie him down.
"And about last night-"
"I’ll forget that ever happened, you should too. I’m being civil about this because you made a mistake, next time don’t sell yourself for the family-" in the middle of his lecture, Mallory cut him off.
"I’m not sorry for what I said. I-I really am in love with you." She confessed once again.
Thane replied flatly, "Then don’t be."
"It’s not that easy. Seeing you right now is making my heart race, and I can’t even breathe properly-"
He cut her off, "That’s your anxiety."
She frowned, "Maybe that too, but I have loved you for months. So please, don’t act like you my feelings are a lie."
Thane sighed exasperated, "And? What do you want me to say?" He felt irritated at her pushing this agenda of liking him.
What was the play here?
Answering his question she said, "What I was trying to say last night, was that even though I’m in love with you, it doesn’t mean I will do anything about it. I’m used to this, so don’t worry about me."
Thane didn’t catch what being ’used’ to this meant, but he could sense some sincerity in her words. More than that, he noticed the water that had gathered in her eyes.
"I just want you to know that I’ll make my father understand. In the first place I never asked for all this." She laughed sadly. "I confided in my maid that I had fallen for you and she leaked it to my family."
She went on, "Who would want to come all this way just to have their heart broken in a grand manner? Of course you don’t like me, I knew it all this time, I don’t really leave an impression on the people I meet." She bit her cheeks, hoping to use tears to stop the pain.
Thane didn’t know what to do. The woman he met in the past was more calm and collected, "Miss-"
Wiping a tear away, she cut him off, "I’m not fishing for sympathy, I can’t help liking you so much it hurts enough to make me cry." She wiped away more tears, worrying her details if they should get a doctor to help her.
Their young miss was never this emotional, in fact she barely showed any emotions.
After her father sent her away to live with her aunt, she became a secluded person who barely interacted with anyone. Whenever she visited home, it was almost like the young miss was a walking corpse.
Her parents were worried over her anxiety leading into a depressive disorder.
Perhaps, that was why they jumped the gun when they found out she had fallen in love with somebody.
And perhaps, Thane Grayson was their young miss’ first and only love.
If that was the case, then she must’ve been a novice in love, which was why she dared to confess to a married man.
Seeing her now, embarrassingly fighting away her tears made their hearts ache.
"I’m sorry, I’ve kept you here long enough. Please go back to your wife." She said, then turned to leave.
Thane nodded, he turned to leave but halted his steps. Keeping a civil distance away, he said his parting words to her.
"Take care of yourself ." He said, then returned to Brooke, who looked just as confused as he was.
Hearing those words, she ran away to go cry in her room over her first heartbreak.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t watching where she was headed and crashed into Matthew.
"Son of a-" Matthew cut himself off when he heard a thud.
He looked down, to see Mallory on the ground in front of him, while her security sprinted towards them.
He recalled her colliding into a pillar at yesterday’s birthday dinner and huffed, "Hey, can’t you watch your surroundings-" he cut himself off when he saw her crying.
She could cry?
Was the first thing that came to mind.
He recalled her stoic expression the entire night, and assumed she wasn’t the sort to cry easily.
Her details arrived and formed a wall around her, as they helped her off the floor. One of them even offered to carry her all the way inside the house.
Despite her legs being perfectly fine.
"Hey, are you just going to walk past me? Without even apologizing?" Matthew demanded, calling her back.
Her details were just about ready to snap, when Mallory turned around and faced him.
Matthew straightened his shoulders and raised his chin, expecting her apology.
Mallory wiped her tears away and straightened her back, "Wow, I’m really sorry for bumping into your ego. I hope I didn’t bruise it too much." She retorted with a hint of sarcasm and forced politeness in her tone.
Matthew widened his eyes at the sharp glare in her gaze.
Wasn’t she crying and helpless just a minute ago? So why was she suddenly getting hostile with him?
Before he could say anything, the sharp tongued tyrant left with her details, completely ignoring his existence.
"This bitch." He balled his fists, his ears reddened with anger and embarrassment of being spoken to like that.
