Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 221: Pending Pile Of Bills
Chapter 221: Pending Pile Of Bills
The anger dwelling in Brooke’s chest suddenly dissipated all at once, and in it’s place was a cold shiver that ran down her spine.
"Gilbert what are you saying? Why would Matthew do that? He may be crude at times, but he’d never harm his brother-" her words were cut short when Gilbert dropped another reveal to her.
"But Matthew has already tried to kill master Grayson in the past." He told her.
Brooke’s heart skipped a beat, "W-What are you talking about?" Was he being serious? Or was he just trying to cause conflict. What did he mean by that?
"I can’t speak right now, please come home and I’ll tell you everything about Matthew, and what’s done to master Grayson." He said, then disconnected the call before Brooke could even give a response.
In a rush, Brooke gathered her things, called for her driver and rushed outside to meet him, ignoring the hollering from the director.
Hours prior to this, Cassie was having breakfast with Julian and the rest of his family, as they waited for her mother to come pick her up.
At first, no one said a word and kept their attention on their plates, but Cassie sliced through the tension with one question.
"Daddy, is it true that all the wealth is willed in big brother’s name alone?" She asked, causing Julian’s fork to fall out of his hand. He raised his head and looked at Cassie, who had a pouty expression painted on her face. frёewebηovel.cѳm
"Why do you ask that?" He managed to respond, still taken aback by how brazen this woman was.
Twisting her hair, she lamented, "Last night, big brother said so, he told me that no matter how hard I tried to become your daughter, I would never measure up to him. He told me you’d never accept me, is that true daddy? Do you really not consider me your daughter?"
Susan looked at Kayden, whose features were contorted into a deep frown, then she shifted her gaze to the conflicted look her brother was sporting. She knew that if her brother said something wrong, it would end direly.
Turning to Cassie she cracked a warm smile, "You shouldn’t think that way, my brother had spent years trying to find you, if he didn’t want you he’d never do that."
Cassie inwardly rolled her eyes, ’I didn’t ask you now did I? Nosey bitch!’ she cursed in her head, though she maintained her pitiful demeanor.
"Is it because I’m not a boy? Is that why I can’t be your heiress daddy? Is that why you won’t accept me in the business-" she was saying, but Kayden cut her off.
"Business? I don’t think someone flaunting a fake degree has any business thinking of joining the company." Kayden inserted, earning a frown from his aunt.
"Kayden! That’s not how to speak to your sister-"
Kayden interjected, "This classless wench is not my sister, I would rather adopt a pig than admit we were related."
Cassie sniffled, "Father, why aren’t you saying anything? Last night everyone ganged up on me and bullied me. Even now at the breakfast table, I’m still getting picked on." Abruptly, she got up from the table and turned for the exit.
"If this is how I’m going to be treated then...then...I don’t want to stay here anymore!" She spat out, then ran for the exit.
However, her run slowed into a march, and then into a fast stroll when no one called her back to the table or tried to stop her.
’What is the old man doing?! Stop me already!’ she panicked as she got closer to the exit.
’Why is that nosey bitch so quiet now?! Does she want me to leave that badly?!’ Just the thought of going back to her house disgusted her.
Here, the maids were so afraid of her she could train them from scratch, she was respected and the money was guaranteed to flow freely. Whereas back home, with Ethan and Luther gone, she and her mother couldn’t handle the stack of pending bills.
The banks were calling at every hour, the maids had to be paid and they were steadily running out of groceries. Not to mention she couldn’t afford anymore lavish spending on shopping sprees, not after she paid off the worker from the college that helped to forge her degree.
She shook her head, dismissing the awful memories. She couldn’t go back to that life, Ethan had ghosted her and the Grayson heir no longer contacted her. Not to mention her good for nothing father had completely abandoned her, with such bad odds, she couldn’t dare not to latch onto this final chance.
But how could she slither her way in, when no one would ever stop her-
"Stop!" Julian cried out getting up, Cassie immediately halted and turned around before he would change his mind.
With tears flowing freely, she hiccuped, "Am I really not welcomed? By even my own father?"
Julian walked over to her and extended his arms in a hug. "I’m sorry if I made you feel that way. My daughter is just as important to me as my son."
Cassie sniffled, "I suffered so much you know, my mother’s husband Luther would harass and bully me all the time. I wished everyday for the hell I was living in to be over. Even that bitch, Brooke didn’t spare me! She would hit me all the time, just because she was jealous of my talent-" Cassie shut herself up when Julian suddenly pulled away from her.
"What did you just say? What did you say Brooke did?" He asked.
Cassie turned to theatrics, her tone dramatic she confessed, "I’ve never told anyone this before. B-But...Brooke used to hit me!"
Susan looked to Kayden, who was suddenly invested in what she was saying. Then she turned to her brother who stood frozen in shock from Cassie’s words.
And as she should have, Susan’s intrigue was piqued.
Who was this Brooke? And why did it seem like she was an important person in this whole set-up?
