Chapter 72: Don’t Ever Abandon Me

Brooke left the live stream and took a deep breath, her heart was pounding and her body was shivering in excitement and anxiety.

It was the first time she mouthed off to her mother and Cassie in front of others, and she didn’t know how to feel.

"Miss Brooke! Do you need some water? Or should I get your medicine-"

Brooke held her by the wrist, "I’m fine Hannah, I’m just a bit overwhelmed is all."

Hannah squatted in front of her, "Overwhelmed is an understatement! The whole time I was impressed by how calm you remained."

"Thank you." She half smiled, "But I’m still very worried about Sadie, I can’t get a hold of her."

Hannah held her hands, they were cold and moist, "Don’t worry so much, master Grayson said he’d handle it."

Brooke sighed, "I trust he’ll find her, but I don’t get why she shut herself out like that. It makes me worried that the rumours are-" before she could say anymore her phone rang.

She picked it off her lap and it was her mother calling. She had half a mind to disconnect the call and block her number, but decided to hear her out.

However, as soon as she answered, it was an angry Cassie on the line.

"Brooke! Have you not had enough?! I wasn’t even talking about you. If that Sadie wants to be a slut, that isn’t my fault!" She spat into the call, "Why the hell do you have to side with her? Did you forget whose sister you are?!" She snapped at her.

Hearing that made Brooke so angry she disconnected the call.

"Miss Brooke-"

"That woman has so much nerve! What sister? If she really saw me as her sister, she would never have done that to me!" She balled her fingers into a tight fist, fighting back her tears.

Her phone rang a few times, but she refused to answer it. Hannah tried to get her to speak with her about what just happened, but Brooke was too angry to speak.

She retired to her bedroom and got under the covers, without having anything to eat or drink. Hearing Cassie play that card just seemed to rile her up.

Her anger was so intense, that she started to recall some of the things Cassie had done to her over the years. Especially one incident that stood out the most.

*Flashback*

A bucket of cold water was splashed on Brooke, forcefully waking her up from her sleep. Frightened, she opened her eyes, only to find the man she had slept with the previous night, her first ever boyfriend, videoing her naked body on his phone.

"Rise and shine Brooke!" Cassie’s sadistic voice chirped from her side.

Frantically she reached for the covers, "Cassie? W-What is happening here?" She tried to drape them over her chest, but Cassie dragged the blanket out of her grasp, to reveal a red patch of dried blood on the sheet.

"Ahahaha!" She cackled, "Wait a minute, is this really your first time? I guess I win the bet huh?!" she asked, looking at Brooke’s so called boyfriend.

Brooke’s heart sunk. "Bet?" She felt sickended as she traced her gaze to the nasty grin on her boyfriend’s face. "What bet is she talking about?" Her watery gaze couldn’t hold his unforgiving glare.

"Shut up bitch! Because of you I just lost five hundred dollars! Damn! Who would’ve thought you were still a virgin? At this age?!" He lashed out at her.

Cassie got on the bed and peeled off Brooke’s hands from her breasts. "Come on! What did you think? Who the hell would want to sleep with this limp bitch?" She turned to a crying Brooke and laughed some more.

"But I told you didn’t I? A man would have to get paid to do it with you." She taunted.

"Get off me!" Brooke pushed her back and tried to get away, but she fell flat to the ground, due to her wounded leg. She squirmed on the floor, using the rug in his apartment to cover up, while Cassie laughed hysterically on the bed.

"Get it on footage! Get it all! I think I could make some money off of this!"

"Stupid bitch stay still! I have to get the good part!" Her boyfriend yelled over her crying and Cassie’s taunting...

*Present*

Brooke recalled how Cassie used that footage to intimidate her into doing her so many favors, some she didn’t dare to think about.

She was so angry that she failed to hear the door to the bedroom open and close. It wasn’t until she heard a noise from the kitchen area, than she realized Thane was back.

"Sorry, did that wake you?" Thane asked, stepping out of the kitchen, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, and his hair roughly tussled to the side.

"I didn’t hear you come in." She said, her tone low and gentle.

Thane approached her, unfastening his buttons. "I was able to locate your friend, she hid out at her old place, as we speak, Hannah is with her, extracting the information we need."

"How is she?" Brooke asked, tugging tightly onto the covers, a part of her scared that Cassie would storm in and she’d find out that Thane was all part of a lie.

That he was just a pawn in some sick scheme to ridicule her.

She was so absorbed in her thoughts that she didn’t notice Thane sit by the side of the bed and reach to tuck her hair behind her ear.

"Mr-" she sprang up, only to meet his piercing gaze.

Her heart raced, as their eyes locked firmly. Thane’s thumb caressed the back of her earlobe, whilst keeping their gazes tightly together.

"How are you?" He asked.

It was a simple question, with a simple answer, but somehow his words penetrated deeply into her.

She didn’t know when she flung herself at him, wrapping her arms around his neck, and crying into his shoulders.

"I’m not fine!" She cried, holding onto him tightly, scared that if she let go, this illusion of happiness he brought her would disappear alongside with him.

But Thane’s arm around her waist, drawing her closer, whilst his other hand rested at the back of her head, gently patting and calming her down.

Brooke sobbed softly into his shoulder. "Please," she whispered, "Don’t ever abandon me."
