Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 84: Meeting Her First In-law
Chapter 84: Meeting Her First In-law
"Miss Brooke! Congratulations on getting the role!" Hannah happily announced upon hearing the news.
Brooke sighed in relief when Hannah chose to focus on her nagging the role, than scold her for going to the hospital without anyone’s consent.
"We should celebrate this! What do you want to eat? I’m not that good at cooking but I’ll make it for you." She offered.
But Brooke had seperate thoughts. "Ideally, I wanted to share this news with Mr Grayson first, but..." she left her sentence hanging. Hannah sighed and sat next to Brooke on the bed, her demeanor dampened.
"Mr Grayson is making a steady recovery. Just wait, he’ll be home in a few days." Hannah assured her.
"Can I ask you a question, and please be honest with me." Brooke turned to her, and locked their gazes. Before Hannah could protest she asked, "Mr Grayson’s health, is it really fine? Why did everyone seem so used to the situation?"
"Miss Brooke, I think you’re reading too much into this."
Brooke pouted, "Am I? I just want to know more about him, so I can help in whatever way I can. So please Hannah, if you know something," she reached for her hand and gave it a tight squeeze. "Tell me, please."
Brooke gazed intently at Hannah, and for a second she could see a bit of reluctance, but it was buried under her ’smile’ in moments. Hannah gently placed hers over Brooke’s and said, "Why would I lie to you Miss Brooke? Master Grayson’s health situation is not that serious."
Defeated Brooke sighed. "Alright, I’ll take your word for it then. But, I’d like to know, why hasn’t any of his family called or come visit him?"
At the mention of his family, the colour on Hannah’s face vanished.
"He’s been here for a while, don’t any of them miss him? Aren’t they worried? Just what sort of family are they?" She asked.
"Master Thane’s family-" Right in the middle of her words she was cut short by her cellphone ringing. She stole a peek, it was Gilbert calling.
"Miss Brooke, I’m sorry but I’ll have to answer this." She said, then stood up to leave. Once she left.
As she watched her leave, Brooke knew that Hannah was lying to her, especially after she checked and saw it was Gilbert calling.
What were they trying so desperately to hide?
Or was it Mr Grayson who wanted them to keep it a secret from her?
She crawled into bed and draped herself with the covers, thinking on the events that had happened up until now. Her thoughts consumed her so quickly that she ended up falling asleep.
Brooke might’ve not woken up from her sleep had she not heard someone curse in a low tone at the sound of a forceful kick.
Who was that?
And why they in Mr Grayson’s room?
Her heart pounded as the footsteps steadily approached her. Brooke discreetly reached for her belt under the covers and wrapped it around her hand, ready to defend herself if things got too heated.
"Bloody hell, why the fuck is there a wheelchair here?" He cursed under his breath, furiously kicking her wheelchair away.
Brooke frowned, it was a wheelchair, not a battery. How could he not see it?
The stranger was finally right in front of her, towering over Brooke’s body. "Who is this?" He asked, reaching for the covers to see for himself.
However, just as he ripped off the sheets, Brooke sprang up and pointed the belt at his face! "Who the hell are you? And what are you doing here?" She demanded.
Matthew widened his eyes, "You crazy bitch! That should be my question." He hissed, staring at the black belt pointed at him. "You’re the one in someone else’s home!" He spat out, feeling oddly nervous about a mere belt being pointed at him.
Brooke frowned, the bedroom lights were dimmed, something Hannah might’ve done, so it was hard to see his face clearly. Maybe that was why the stranger kicked her wheelchair while stepping inside.
"I’m not invading, I live here. But what about you? Why are you here?" She retorted sharply, unsure of who this person was. And why he had come to Thane’s bedroom of all places.
Matthew hissed then slapped the belt away from her hand and grabbed her by the wrist. "You’re a thief aren’t you?"
Brooke rolled her eyes, "A thief? Because you think it’s so easy to break into this house?"
Matthew scoffed, "Only a thief would know about that. For now come with me, you’re going to explain yourself to the police."
"What? Let go of me! You’re harassing me right now with your actions. You can’t just barge in here and threaten to take me somewhere!" She spat out, fighting against him, but he was stronger and managed to pull her off the bed.
Brooke’s body fell to the floor with a loud thud.
"Ouch! Stop! It hurts!" She cried out, when her elbows collided against the floor.
"Stop pretending. You could’ve stood if you wanted to! Now get the hell up!" He yelled, refusing to listen to a word of Brooke’s plight.
Out of options, Brooke raised her voice. "Hannah! Gilbert! Anybody! Help me! There’s a lunatic! Someone help!" She called out to them.
"You’re the only lunatic in this room!" Matthew spat at the infuriating woman. "Now get up!" He ordered, but Brooke did not waver.
Angry, he pulled her off the floor and tossed her over his shoulder.
Brooke’s jaw fell to the ground. "Stop it! Let me down! Help! Someone help me!" She punched his back, which was to her surprise broad and sturdy.
But Matthew carried her around like she weighed nothing, and marched out of the room towards the elevator. They reached the elevato, and Matthew tried getting inside, but Brooke refused, and ended up biting his neck so hard, he dropped her to the ground!
"You crazy bitch! How dare you?!" Matthew yelled, pressing his palm against the wound on his neck.
Brooke wiped off the blood on her lower lip with the back of her palm and tried to crawl her way back to her bedroom.
"Where the hell do you think you’re going?!" He shouted, taking large steps towards Brooke, his eyes laced with anger.
Brooke nervously backed away, her heart racing, as the towering figure approached her, his anger matching that of Ethan’s. Her fast and short breaths drowned out the sound of her heartbeat, she was scared, scared that he would hit her.
Just like her ex would.
Matthew brought his palm to his face, the sight of his blood made his anger rise. He reached into his phone, to call for the police, but a sudden message popped up on his screen.
-Gilbert: Master Grayson has regained consciousness!
He hissed, and proceeded to make the phone call, only for another message to pop up immediately.
-Gilbert: I informed him that you had arrived at the mansion.
Still, Matthew was unimpressed, he did not care what his incompetent older brother would do...or rather could not do to him. All he wanted to do was catch the bitch who dared to hurt him and make her suffer for it.
He saw Gilbert was still typing more but closed the chat window, and fixed his gaze on Brooke, who was nearly at the door to the master bedroom.
In seconds he got to her, then crouched down to Brooke’s level and pinned her to the wall by the neck!
"Stop! You’re hurting me-"
"Stay still bitch!" He cursed, lifting her feet off the ground, showcasing his strength.
Brooke kicked and scratched at him, her head felt fuzzy and her body was in so much pain. But the stranger ignored her tears, and continued to strangle her.
"I don’t know what it is you were called here to do, but I’m going to punish you so severely, you’ll learn not to mess with me." He groaned, using both his hands to suffocate her!
He didn’t plan to kill her, he just wanted to make her scared enough to piss her pants into submitting to him.
Unfortunately, the ding sound of the elevator, interrupted his little discipline lesson.
"Who the hell is it?! Can’t you see that I’m busy here?! Get the hell out of here-" Matthew was saying, but he got cut off when his brother’s hand rested on his.
"Let go." Thane said.
On his command, Matthew’s hands immediately dropped from Brooke’s neck, causing her to drop to the floor.
"Thane this woman-" Matthew tried to speak, but Thane completely ignored him and crouched down to pick Brooke off the floor. He hooked her in his arms, despite looking pale and carried her towards the bedroom.
Matthew followed, "Thane, who is she-"
Thane just looked at him, with no contempt, hatred of even affection, his gaze was black and soulless. It sent shivers running down Matthew’s spine, he got so afraid that he couldn’t even speak.
Thane carried Brooke into his bedroom and kicked the door shut behind him.
It wasn’t until the door was shut, that Matthew let out a deep breath, realizing he had been holding his breath in the presence of his older brother.
The hairs on Matthew’s body stood, as he found himself weak in the knees, from the possessive look in his brother’s eye.
As far as he knew, Thane was nonchalant about most things, the only time he had ever gotten this much of a reaction out of him was back then...
"That plastic ring." He gasped, connecting the dots between now and the incident from over a decade ago.
