Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 99: His Soon To Be Son-in-law
Chapter 99: His Soon To Be Son-in-law
Malcolm and Rosalind could not hide the worried expression on their faces, when the Rosamunds attended the birthday dinner. Much more, they couldn’t believe their ears when the patron of the family, Godfrey Rosamund, a prominent rival of the Grayson family, made his intentions known.
"Our families have been rivals for decades, nearly a century even if I’m not correct. It certainly brings a smile to my face to see you honour my birthday," Malcolm Grayson announced, while helping his father to the seat behind the desk in his study.
His wife, Rosalind took out four wine glasses from the cabinet and one of the aged wine, which was kept strictly for special occasions.
Godfrey smiled, "Well, what I’m about to say came as a shock to me as well. You could hardly imagine how we reacted to what dearest Mallory informed us of."
Malcolm and his wife, Rosamund exchanged quick glances with each other.
They had seen Mallory downstairs, and both had the opinion that she was a bit... alienated. Neither of them were even aware that the Rosamunds had a daughter to begin with, and now they did, it only made them feel unsettled.
"Do tell us, what did she say that would make you both make this trip?" His wife urged, serving each one of them a glass.
She passed a glass to her father in law, but he did not accept it. He, just like Malcolm was interested over why their family’s business rival would come all this way to see them.
Godfrey look to his wife, Amanda, he smiled at her curly ginger hair, which reminded him so dearly of his daughter. The flushed look on Mallory’s face came flashing before his eyes.
As a man, it would hurt his pride to make the first move to waver. But as a father, he didn’t care about that and prioritized his daughter’s happiness instead. freēwēbnovel.com
Setting the glass on the table he cleared his throat, "I’m sure it came as a surprise to you to find out I indeed have a daughter. While it wasn’t my intention to hide her existence, for the most time, she’s been with my wife’s sister, Rachelle, studying bag designing under her." He explained.
Rosalind nodded, she alongside all the other women in her circle knew that Amanda’s sister, Rachelle was a top tier bag designer. Most of the bags in her collection were limited editions from Rachelle’s collection.
But none of them knew that Mallory, the secret daughter was with her the whole time.
Perhaps, Godfrey just wanted to hide his daughter away from public scrutiny, seeing how awkward she was.
Sparing everyone the suspense he went on, "After my sister-in-law, Rachelle had an accident which resulted in her having a spinal dysfunction. And well, as the case may be, it was your eldest son, Thane, who treated her."
Malcolm smiled, "Yes, I heard of that."
His father, also could not hide the proud grin of hearing his rival praise his favorite grandson.
Amanda chipped in. "And while I am eternally grateful for him helping my sister, there is another thing to be grateful for."
Rosalind took a sip from her glass, all while eyeing her husband. She felt something big about to be announced.
"Yes, that’s right." Godfrey chimed, "You see during this period, your son somehow managed to steal my daughter’s heart. Since then, he’s been all she ever talks about and after months of debating it, we’ve come to your family to make a former proposal for your eldest son’s hand in marriage to our dearest Mallory."
The wine in Rosalind’s mouth nearly spilled onto her white dress. She looked over her shoulder at her father-in-law, who was surprisingly calm.
He was so calm he forgot to blink!
Malcolm dry coughed. "Ahem!" He set his glass down.
"This is certainly not the news we expected to hear. You say your daughter is infatuated with our Thane?" Malcolm asked once more for clarification.
Amanda sternly inserted, "The girl is in love with him, she’s followed on all his recent studies and has been preparing herself to become the perfect wife for him."
"Well, these things can’t be rushed." Rosalind said, "We will need to consult with Thane first, and I doubt he has any intention to marry. Right, love?" She used her elbow to hit her husband’s side, forcing his input.
Malcolm nodded through the pain. "Yes, he’s very business minded, we would not want to make Mallory wait for too long." He lied.
In reality, he wanted nothing to do with the Rosamunds. They were their biggest threat, and having their children marry could very well be a ploy by the Rosamunds to attain even more power and eliminate all their competition.
For one moment, Malcolm and his wife did not buy the act these two were selling.
However, his father, seemed to see things in another light.
"It’s a wonderful idea! My grandson is looking to settle with a woman, and your daughter looks like the ideal woman. And I think it’s about time, we strengthen our families." The old man announced.
Godfrey smiled, "Exactly. Petty rivalry won’t fatten our accounts, I say we have the children marry."
Rosalind forced a smile, "But father-in-law, what about Tara? She’s engaged to-"
"Forget that woman. Her grandfather was just caught for being involved in shady business, we will cut their family off after tonight." He announced.
Malcolm inwardly huffed, he wanted his son to marry and win over the inheritance to his branch of the family, but he just did not trust Godfrey, or his wife.
However, with the way things were going, he could care less about the small details. After all, he only needed Thane to secure the will, after that was confirmed, his son could divorce the woman for all he cared.
"I think you’re right father, we shouldn’t harbour anymore bad blood." He picked up his half full wine glass and raised it to the air.
"To a new begining, for both our families." He announced, starting off the toast.
Rosalind looked at him with uncertainty, before raising her glass as well, "To a new beginning."
Godfrey and Amanda mirrored them, "To a new begining," they raised their glasses to the old man, who used the bottle to make his toast.
Once the toast was over, Godfrey asked with a bright beam, "So? Where is my future son-in-law?"
