Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Found.

A week went by, it had been two weeks since the first appearance of this detective Lunar, Sanchez had shown his photo to those who had seen him.

They all confirmed this was indeed the detective Lunar or Sanchez in the case of the kidnapping victims.

She had been obsessing over this case for the past two weeks, it was causing a strain in her relationship.

Her partner was starting to pull away and she could tell he was really hurting, knowing him he was probably thinking it was his fault.

So he put extra effort trying to please her and she had tried, God knows she tried to act interested but she couldn’t.

She loved him but she can’t stop thinking about the things she saw in the sewers, they made her suspect there were things hiding in the shadows of society.

She tried to explain to him that it wasn’t his fault, she was just stressed with work but she had used that excuse too many times.

Tonight she had decided to go her usual bar to cool her head off, maybe she’ll think clearly after.

She drank a few beers then decided to leave, she had work tomorrow and couldn’t allow herself to get too drunk.

The beers didn’t help, the only thing in her head was this detective Lunar, she had a feeling he had all the answers she wanted.

She got out of the bar then paused, " Huh?"

Adrian POV

Adrian had been grounded for two weeks, it was excruciating. His wild nature wanted him to be free.

However he couldn’t defy Meggie, he couldn’t explain it but talking to her felt like talking to his mother.

Strong as he was he was strangely terrified of the very thought of talking back especially after he saw her face.

Luckily today she lifted the grounding only to find out it was because she wanted him to go buy her some things.

A few of them were food items like milk and cheese but there were also seeds and roots of strange plants.

He figured it was for some witch fuckery he couldn’t understand and stopped thinking about it.

He thought about taking a cab then chose against it, he could walk just fine and frankly he wanted as much time out of that house as possible.

Even if she had to reprimand him for being late, he’s willing to take that chance than spend any more time locked up in that prison.

" Hey you, stop." He heard a woman shouting from across the street and continued walking.

He was new here and didn’t see why anybody would be calling him so he figured she’s talking to somebody else.

" Adrian, Adrian Lunar, stop right there I need to talk to you." He finally turned and saw a middle aged woman in her 30’s calling him.

She was dressed in a grey suit with a white shirt whose collar was unbuttoned. Typical movie female detective style.

He suspected why she was calling him and walked faster, he could’ve easily ran as fast as the wind and disappeared in a blink of an eye but that would sell him out.

Meggie made it abundantly clear that he is not to reveal his abilities to the ordinary. The woman walked faster then ran after him.

Sanchez POV

Adrian walked faster, Sanchez was certain now that it was him. She increased her pace to catch up.

As a well trained officer with years of experience of running after criminals, she expected to catch up to a seventeen year old kid easily.

However contrary to her expectations she could not catch up, she started losing her breath from the running.

" God I’m too old for this." She whispered with heavy breaths but she did not stop chasing him.

What frustrated her the most was that he was not running at all. Yes his pace was fast but he was walking.

She was giving it her all to chase him and he was just walking away from her, this damaged both her pride and confidence.

She wondered if she was getting slow, she had tried to maintain her shape by going to the gym almost every day after work.

The streets of Lagon were always empty around these times, that was something she never understood.

Before she moved here, the city she lived in was always bustling even at late hours but the people here were not so enthusiastic.

Most of those who stayed until late were not original denizens of this place. As such, there were not many people blocking her path.

She was able to keep him in her line of sight and run at her full speed yet she still could not catch up to him.

However she started closing the gap, slowly at first but she drew closer and closer.

" Stop, it’s the police, I just want to ask you some questions." She shouted but he still did not stop.

She grew frustrated and pulled out her gun," I said stop." He still did not stop, without another option she fired the gun into the air.

The people around screamed and ducked down. Adrian eventually stopped but he didn’t turn around.

" You’re not under arrest Adrian I just want to ask you some few questions okay, I’m Detective Sanchez of the LPD, it’s okay, you can trust me."

" You know, usually when people say you can trust them, you can’t trust them." His answer caught her off guard.

Before she could react he turned a corner and disappeared into an alley.

" Shit." Sanchez cursed and chased after him, the alley was only around 4 metres away from her.

It’s took her less than two seconds to reach it but by the time she turned the corner he was gone.

The alley stretched for about 12 metres, he would have to be inhumanly fast to get to the other side that fast.

She still ran to the other side but she still couldn’t see him anywhere. " Fuck." She cursed outloud.

She continued looking for a while hoping he might’ve hidden somewhere, after not finding him she left.

----------------------------------------------------------

Adrian watched the detective from the roof of the building, he realised he had messed up and left trails behind.

He should’ve erased the memories of himself from those people to be safe, he took note for next time.

He was about to leave when he caught a unique scent, it smelled like blood but also different.

Its scent was special, it felt similar to everything he had met that had Esper. He grew curious.
