Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Meggie

They took the unconscious boy with them but just he left the forest he found a black car waiting.

It was one of those fancy cars of the new brand Strix Tiger. Next to the car was a woman dressed like a hooligan playing with a knife.

Standing next to her was a man in a black suit looking like some government official. The man pulled out a card before even greeting him.

" Agent Wolf of the SCF, I’ll need you to vacate your men from the crime scene, this case is ours now, I’ll also need you to hand over the witness."

Sheriff Lucas frowned, " SCF? Never heard of it." He replied coldly, he wouldn’t just hand over his case to an organisation he didn’t even know.

The man’s face didn’t change. The sheriff’s personal phone rang and he answered. The sheriff froze.

He recognised that voice, it was that of the prime minister herself. He nodded like a child talking to him mother.

That made his people wonder who he was talking to that would warrant so much respect from him.

He on the other hand was wondering who these people to get the prime minister herself to vouch for them.

One thing for certain though was that they weren’t people he can mess with. He didn’t like it but he would have to give up this case.

" Well the case is yours." He told them not bothering to hide his reluctance. His people were confused by kept quiet.

" Thank you for your cooperation sheriff." The man nodded.

The sheriff nodded as well, " I can’t give you the boy though, he’s not okay and needs immediate medical care."

The man frowned, " He’s a witness and possible suspects, he is to be left in our custody."

" I know the boy, he’s a good kid caught up with some bad people but he wouldn’t hurt anybody.

You can talk to him later but for now I’m going to rush him to the hospital. If you need to know anything you can talk to Meggie."

He turned to leave but then noticed Meggie was not there. He shrugged, got in his car and left.

The moment he reached the station he found another troubling news. Something else had happened in the gas station store.

He took his men and went there but found the woman from that duo already there checking the three corpses.

" You’re taking over this case too? Why would big shots like you be interested in minor thugs shooting each other?"

The truth was the sheriff was confused, he had no idea why these guys were here. He knew though something big was happening.

His guess was that some big criminal organisation came to his little town, perhaps just passing by and decided to create chaos.

The woman raised her head and looked at him. Even dressed as a hooligan thug she still looked gorgeous.

" What we do sheriff is above your pay grade, I would advice you to stay the fuck away before you get hurt." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

She walked past him leaving him in the store. He approached the shaking cashier, he knew her too.

She grew up here, a good girl. He smiled gently at her, " Hello." She raised her head looking at him then looked down.

" Can you tell me what happened here?" She nodded.

" They came into the store to rob it but there was there was.." she started shaking as if terrified.

" He..he told them to and they did, they shot themselves."

Lucas was confused, she was not making any sense. " Do you remember how he looked?"

She shook her head and he didn’t press the issue, the poor lad was clearly shaken by this experience.

" Was there anybody else in the store?" She shook her again. " Can you show me the CCTV footage?"

She nodded and led him to the back where the store owner was, he had gotten here before Lucas did.

When Lucas asked for the footage the man shook his head. " I can’t give it to you, that lady from before confiscated it."

Lucas sighed, " Come on Frank, don’t you have any backup? Help me out here."

Frank shook his head, " Sorry Lucas, I really can’t help you here."

Lucas sighed and left, " I’m taking this." He took a pack of chips and left the store.

Back in his office he slumped on his chair exhausted. His little peaceful town was getting more dangerous.

The door opened and in came Meggie with a file. " Is that the case file? You should know that no longer belongs to us."

Meggie shook her head, " This is a retirement form." Her voice came out a bit sad but Lucas had known her for three years.

He could hear the fear beneath her voice, he sat up straight. " Is everything okay?" He asked with a worried voice.

She laughed softly but he could tell it was forced laughter. " Yeah, everything is fine, I just thought it’s time I move, start a new Chapter in my life, perhaps in the big city."

Lucas tapped his finger on his desk, " How about this, I’ll agree to your retirement but take a week to think it through."

Meggie froze then shook her head, " I can’t take a week, I’m leaving today."

That caught him by surprise, " Today? Don’t you think you’re rushing things a bit too much?"

She smiled sadly, " I’ve made up mind and you can’t change it."

Lucan can see the determination in her eyes, he just couldn’t understand what brought this on.

He sighed, " Fine, I just hope you’re certain about this."

She nodded and he signed the papers, Meggie bowed and left, she stopped Infront of the door.

" Please tell others I said goodbye." Then she left him sitting there. Lucas was a bit sad to lose a friend and such a good forensics.

Meggie rushed to her car, her bags were already packed just as she was about to leave she remembered she had forgotten something.

" Damnit." She drove back to her house and ran inside then froze. Two people were inside her house.

The hooligan looking woman smiled at her while twirling a knife on her hand.

" Hello Meggie, I assume you already know about us." Wolf smiled at her.
