Demon Tamer's Ascension-Chapter 9: Alex’s First Try...
’Rule Books?’ Alex thought, ’Guess those were the terms I was supposed to and should’ve read before signing this contract, it’s whatever.’
...
Ten minutes have passed, and he finally finished soaking in his warm shower, putting on the same clothes he used earlier.
’No washing or drying machine, I’m going to have to buy some new clothes.’ Alex thought to himself, locking the washroom door behind him.
He looked down at the Grey-Wolf, who was showing symptoms, ones that clearly meant it was about to awake. The creature kept turning its head from side to side, unconsciously scratching itself, and constantly shifting while lying down.
And clearly, Alex had devised a plan, one not even Victor could think of.
Alex took a seat on his cosy bed, "So, when are you gonna wake up-"
Alex was abruptly cut off by his own system before he could finish.

Alex paused on his decision, but everything had already been clearly laid out for him. Now what mattered wasn’t the idea, but the execution.
Taming a beast, Alex immediately understood this task, but the way he would do it would be a lie. Not just lying to another creature, but now lying to himself.

[Accepted!]
[Goodluck!]

Even though he understood the task, the real question was, how would he manage to pull it off? With no abilities, no skills, or no weapons, he was but a frail young man looking for more power.
"Wake up," Alex demanded as he stared down the Grey-Wolf, which was steadily blinking as it awoke.
When it gained consciousness, it stood rapidly, as if sensing danger. It took a look around the room, only to see Alex’s face. It remained eye to eye with Alex, but there was something sad about it from the creature’s perspective.
At first, the young beast growled, but paused midway.
"Grr-" the grey wolf growled, then stopped at the sight of Alex.
It was weird... At this point, Victor couldn’t respond because Alex was on a quest and it directly followed one of the rule regiments/agreements, specifically number 1. Once the user contracts with the following Demon, then there can be no help navigating through the system, and no assistance during quests.
"P-please," Alex stuttered while constantly breathing, "Y-your m-mother," he paused, "she’s dead."
The small pup looked up at Alex’s eyes, which flowed down with tears, or rather, forced tears. The truth was that Alex killed the pups’ mother, but now he was about to pin it on someone else.
Waterworks fell across both sides of Alex’s eyes; it felt realistic, and Alex’s smile frowned.
Alex dropped to his knees, then stared down, avoiding eye contact with the pup. He joined his hands together, almost as if he were praying.
He kept his head down, not looking at the Grey Wolf, but at the ground, with those same forced tears dropping to the wooden floor.
"Join me," Alex whispered, naturally sneering, and then, forcing a saddened childish voice, "Why don’t you join me? Get revenge for your mother?"
He kept his face downwards, waiting until his grin would wash away. The pup raised itself, tears flowed down from its eyes, as it hissed back at Alex.
Alex had hoped the creature would understand what he was saying, and for the time being, it seemed to be working.
"Grrrr." The Grey-Wolf growled, then rushed towards Alex, scratching him in the leg with its sharp claws.
It ripped through Alex’s white pants, causing a small wound that was dripping blood. But Alex stayed composed, as the wolf waited for him to retaliate.
"Grrr." The beast growled once more, backing up, patiently waiting.
"Please!" Alex showed his face, tears falling down both sides of his cheek, "I know how it feels losing a mother! I’ve lost one as well before!" He moved his body around, as if he was actually suffering the same pain. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
The pup stood there, watching, as tears dropped down from the creature as well.
"But you don’t want it to end that way, do you?!" Alex continued, "Fighting me will amount to nothing! It wouldn’t!"
He began slowly approaching the pup, as the Grey-Wolf backed away slightly while hissing.
"Don’t worry," Alex added, "I’m not here to hurt you." He whispered kindheartedly, "I get how you feel right now. And I understand a life can’t be brought back. But you need me!"
The wolf then stopped moving backwards.
"You need me to exact revenge! You need me alive for that! If I were dead, you couldn’t get payback."
He then crouched down, eyeing the wolf in striking distance.
"The same person who has taken the life of your mother," he slowly rolled his right hand around the pup, "Is the same person who has taken mine."
Alex then tucked the pup into his arms, their faces went right across each other, facing opposite directions.
As Alex sneered, he also cried, "So join me! I don’t ever want to see another person lose their mother ever again! Please!"
The wolf let out a sensitive bark, showing that it really cared.
Alex let it go as it started backing away.
"Does that mean you agree?" Alex let out a small snort as tears slipped down his face one by one. He quickly wiped them away, clearing the waterworks. "Hmm?"
The wolf looked back at him, then raised one of its claws, as if making a mutual agreement.
’Too easy.’
