Chapter 119: Update

Swords appeared in Flain’s hands, and he summoned Aran and Ivy beside him. In his mind, everything started to make sense—Flor had known everything about him from the very first meeting. What was even worse, Flain might not even be the real Flain, because Flor could have altered his memories. This thought sent Flain into an incredible, deathly chill.

"Kill him," Flain said coldly, radiating an aura of death as he pointed at Flor.

"At your service, my king," said Aran, and Ivy readied his ivy vines.

Ivy’s ivy wrapped around Flor and coiled around his legs, but Flor didn’t draw a weapon and simply stood there calmly. "I’m not threatening you, and I don’t want to kill you. When I know who you truly are, wouldn’t it feel foolish and wasteful if I killed you?" Flor asked.

Flain calmed down, and dismissed Aran and Ivy.

"Hey, what are you doing, my king? Wouldn’t it be better to kill him?" Ivy asked.

"Don’t question the king’s decision," Aran reprimanded him.

"Tell me everything about that ability. Since you know everything about me, you could at least say something in return," Flain said, still holding his swords.

"When this shadow summon enters someone’s shadow, it can transfer their memories from one year to me. So I know that in your world you died to a monster called Leviathan, and I know your path in this world. For my summon to enter the target’s shadow, the target must not be aware of its presence—if they are, it becomes impossible. The summon can only move around me within a radius of half a kilometer; it can’t go farther. I can summon it once every three days, and I can use it on a single person at most four times. As for memory alteration, I can only change minor things, like making someone remember they had bread instead of eggs for breakfast," Flor explained.

This was a very good ability, especially for Flor. It had many limitations, but that wasn’t such a problem. He just had to get within half a kilometer of someone and he’d get a year’s worth of memories. But there was still the possibility that Flor was lying and had some other dangerous use for it.

Flain was sure he was hiding something far more dangerous. He could have gained some information from that ability, but definitely not this much. Flain had the feeling that if he asked Flor anything, he would always have an answer.

"Is that your innate ability?" Flain asked.

"Something like that. Anyway, the fact that you reincarnated into this world isn’t that unbelievable. They exist, and they always become strong. They’re called Thensei, and you’re one of them. There are two ways they appear here—either they die and reincarnate here, or someone summons them with very advanced Rune Magic. Either way, they’re very rare, and there’s none in the Empire of Light," Flor explained.

Flain guessed this information was probably known among normal nobles, so the fact that Flor knew it wasn’t so unusual. Still, it stirred a strange feeling in Flain—that someone from his original world might be here.

If Flain ever meets someone like that, he will do everything in his power to kill them. No other person from his home world has the right to be here except for Flain.

"You practically know everything important about me. But I know only one thing about you, and I don’t believe that’s all that’s interesting about you. Don’t you want to tell me something else?" Flain asked.

Flain started to wonder what else Flor might be hiding, because if it was something similar, it could be dangerous to him.

"I already told you I’m not who I appear to be. I won’t tell you anything more," Flor said with a smile.

"You can show your summons during the week. I think it shouldn’t raise any suspicion, just don’t make it obvious that they have high intelligence. Alright then, I’m off, see you." Flor waved goodbye and left.

"My king, I don’t have a good feeling about him," said Aran to Flain’s right.

"At least we agree on something. I think we should kill him. Though it’s true it would be quite difficult, so I don’t really feel like doing it," Ivy mumbled.

"The only feelings that matter are the king’s," Aran objected.

"Hmph, I’m still stronger than you, you weak lizard," Ivy said with a smirk.

Aran’s face turned completely red. "How dare you insult the king’s first slave."

"I did not give you permission to argue," Flain said coldly and recalled them back into his soul.

Flain stood there thinking. He saw Flor as a threat, he had too much information on him and could threaten him without issue. Flain didn’t know what kind of person Flor was, unlike Itai, and it wouldn’t surprise him at all if he tried to threaten him.

Previously, Flain assumed Flor knew he was a special skeleton, but Flain doubted the Empire of Light would care much about a Stage 3 skeleton.

At most, Flor could have threatened to tell the Empire of Light that he was a skeleton, and they would have killed him — something Flain would dislike, but ultimately nothing serious would happen. He would just have to start over.

But now that Flain knows Flor had known everything about him the whole time, he realizes Flor knows he’s immortal and can now threaten to, for example, bury him underground where Flain would remain for eternity. That would be the worst, and the only options left to Flain in that case would be to either submit or wait underground until someone kills Itai.

Flain would love to kill Flor, and if he could do so without consequences, he’d do it without hesitation. Flain knew about the existence of that summon of Flor’s, so at least he can’t use it on him anymore and won’t find out that Flain wants to kill him.

Flain was pulled out of his thoughts by two system windows that popped up in front of him.

’Update? That’s probably happening for the first time,’ Flain thought to himself.

’Hey system, what’s new?’ Flain asked the system...
