Descending Into A Novel-Chapter 109:City of Creatures(7)
Ellen frowned, her multicolored eyes glintijg ominously as she observed the individual from afar.
The two of them were looking for a secret laboratory but the problem was.
They had absolutely no idea where it was. In the past, the SS-rank monster bloody fang dragon (or more often referred to as just Bloody Fang) had only revealed itself sometime during the third Human-Demon war.
It was only until after it was killed that its origins in Mirovia City was revealed. At the time, they had regretted not looking for it and then that was it. End of that story.
What? It was several years after they had already left the academy! They also had a war going on which was more important! They couldn’t waste time moping around the past. What was door was done.
Now that she had returned however, Ellen wanted to snip this in the bud while she could. One less threat now was one less for the future. She obviously wanted to reduce her future workload.
But she didn’t know where this secret lab was, given that there was something like the bloody fang dragon inside. It was definitely not legal in any way shape or form. As such the Mercia Family—which ruled the city was suspicious as well. How could such a laboratory go unknown by them? She refused to believe that. It was more likely they were secretly supporting it, they might even be the ones running it!
Such a monster would definitely be famous within the City of Creatures if it was public.
After all, when one thought of monsters. Wasn’t a massive red dragon one of the most iconic ones that would appear in people’s heads?
Especially when said monster was at the SS-rank, which put them into the group of strongest within this dimension. Considering Zachary hadn’t reached the SSS-rank yet and the dragon was at the ninth level. Just one level below the limit of the dimension. It took all of them several days of fighting just to kill it, and several weeks to deal with the aftermath.
The individual Ellen was observing looked around, her eyes shifting suspiciously as she turned her head. Entering a grey brick building.
She stood up, her knees hurting from her position when she was hiding. Her eyes straining from the constant exertion of her innate power. Because although its main ability was to see weaknesses, with enhancing her eyesight merely being one of the side perks. It was still tiring to use, similar to how holding a dumbbell in the air too long was like on the arm.
Moving to a neighbouring rooftop, she frowned when she realized the individual she was tailing had disappeared. Where she should have been visible, Ellen could only see the floor and walls. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
That was impossible, from where she was standing. Ellen should still have been able to see her through the open windows.
Something was definitely wrong with this building!
Raymond’s vision in his False Future Sight spell was true after all.
Ellen felt massively grateful for his time magic now. As much as he bragged about it, his skills were the real deal. The two had lately been spending a lot more time together as he taught her the basics of how his time magic worked, and each time. Ellen only left more confused then when she started.
She was already in the process of creating an Art similar to his False Future Sight already. But her lack of understanding slowed her progress down to a crawl.
Mentally memorizing the building’s appearance. Ellen leapt off the side of the building, rappelling down with a pre-planted zip line.
At the bottom, she spotted Raymond leaning against the wall as he furiously tapped his phone. Continuous beeping sounds coming out from his phone as he did so.
"What are you doing?"
He flashed her the screen, showing an animated cartoonish cat wielding a chainsaw.
"I just downloaded this need game. It’s this idle game where you run a restaurant. It’s pretty fun actually."
"..."
Ellen was speechless, while I was forced to crouch for hours on end and constantly jump between building rooftops to follow one person. You were just here playing games on your phone?
Raymond, noticing his gaze. Let out a small cough. Putting his phone back into his pocket as he asked.
"Ahem. So what suspicious behavior did she show?"
"Well, she was completely normal for the first five hours. She likes her sandwiches untoasted. But after a while, she entered this building and just...disappeared. I’m thinking it’s a teleport spell or a secret entrance perhaps," answered Ellen.
He nodded upon hearing her answer, although he raised an eyebrow at the little fun fact she threw inside.
"Nice. But why is her liking her sandwiches untoasted significant?"
"I just thought it was strange."
"..."
"You said she disappeared? Did you use your innate power to check whether she actually disappeared or just went invisible?"
Ellen’s innate power showed her the weaknesses of anything, as well as the best path to follow to hit said weaknesses. If there was no object, then there would be no weaknesses and thus, no paths for her to see.
"Completely disappeared. Unless they have some sort of unique ability to hide from my innate power."
As if, the number of people who could successfully avoid detection from her eyes could be counted on one hand. The most notable being obviously Raymond and Audrina.
After all, he had stal-
Ahem. He had observed them for a long time when writing his novel and she had never once caught him. There was this one moment where she came up to him when he was disguised as Nutte Sachs but that was that. She had never fully revealed his identity.
Audrina only developed the ability to hide from Ellen’s eyes after she enhanced her demon bloodline and absorbed a massive amount of demonic energy. Which was still a ways off in the future.
Safe to say, the chances of the individual they were tailing to be someone with the ability to hide from her (When even SS-ranks couldn’t do such a thing) was low.
He rubbed his chin, his vision from False Future Sight had clearly shown her. Which meant that she was an important figure in their secret mission.
"...should we just kidnap her?"
"Let’s not resort to that yet."

The next day, the two of them went to the building where the individual they were tailing had disappeared. On the outside, it was a regular office building. Clearly meant for regular white-collar work.
It actually reminded Raymond of his old job on Earth a little.
Just a little. Because he didn’t have any animal coworkers—for one. He definitely didn’t have a dog walking on two legs as a boss, and he definitely didn’t have a walking flower pot!
Mirovia City was really living up to its namesake as the City of Creatures. Even large flying animals had billboards on them for advertisement.
Raymond still remembered vividly on his first day in the city. A massive shadow suddenly blocked out the sun, looking up. Raymond was greeted with the image of a massive advertisement for perfume. The eagle-like bird creature carrying a massive screen in its talons.
Such a powerful monster would have been at the C-rank minimum. Yet it was being used for such a mundane task of advertising by carrying around a screen.
Raymond was once again reminded of why Terra was one of his favourite dimensions. Because at least the people here knew how to make good use of what they had at their disposal.
Earth was way too boring without mana, but it was a good respite for Raymond. Who had grown sick of fighting and killing. It was comfortable as well, leagues better then be was used to.
Midgard was definitely unique, but it was remarkably similar to Erde in the fact that the constant presence of mana caused then to be quite backwards. Raymond enjoyed the few months he spent there before another war broke out again. Where he decided to leave before he could get dragged into it.
But Terra was just perfect. It had mana and technology, combining the best (and worst) of both worlds.
To even think of using something like a living billboard. If Raymond suggested such a thing on Erde, the idea would have made him into a laughingstock.
But here?
Boss, should we try using this deadly monster as a living billboard?
Boss, should we waste several thousand dollars on plates to keep food magically hot or cold?
Boss, should we install magic to teleport food directly into the canteen rather then just bring it from the kitchen?
Yes, yes and yes! Yes to all of those useless things that made one think ’Why wasn’t this in my life sooner?!’.
Raymond shook his head, it felt like he had been getting sidetracked way too often lately. His thoughts wandering off to useless things when in the midst of something important.
But Raymond couldn’t help but feel that the second item was truly important! Being able to keep food at the perfect temperature no matter what without ruining its taste whatsoever?! Amazing!
He shook his head again, making Ellen stare at him with a concerned look.
"...just get ready and stop messing around already."
Fortunately, Ellen already knew what kind of person he was, and she definitely knew that his thoughts were running free right now.
"Yes ma’am."
