Chapter 37: 37:Special Class Get-Together (2)

Finishing his meal, he wiped his mouth on a napkin. He actually felt a bit thankful to Ellen for telling him to slow down, it let him savour each bite more for a longer period of time.

With Thomas, there was hardly any moments of silence between them. The weather lately, favourite foods, how it was like learning under their personal instructor...

Raymond suddenly shuddered, he had already received permission to skip class but he wasn’t sure how exactly Sienna would take to him skipping so often.

He would have to attend the next personal guided class to try and gauge her reaction. He also needed to attend the other three special class only lessons.

Actually was there even a need to ask her himself? What if she was the type to get mad and flame him for skipping!

He spoke up for the first time, "Thomas, do you think you can do me a small favor?"

"Absolutely. What do you need me to do?"

He continued, "In the next personal guidance class, can you try and gauge instructor Sienna’s reaction to me skipping so often?"

"Sure! I’ll ask her on Monday or if I see her tomorrow."

He wanted to ask Ellen instead, but he felt that since Thomas was more friendly and extroverted. He was more suitable.

Surely his instructor would look upon him better!

Raymond might as well use this chance to ask about the other special class lessons.

Hearing from multiple sources was always better then the one

He asked, "I have another question actually, what are the other special class lessons like?"

"Well you already know about personal guidance so it’s just special class fighting skills, metacognition skills and essential knowledge right?"

Raymond nodded to confirm.

"In special class fighting skills, the teacher usually has us spar against one another or against opponents he brings in. He has been very excited over the thought of finally getting to meet you."

Raymond made sure to not attend any of that class then. Alongside the basic fighting skills class they already had.

"Next class is special class metacognition skills, it focuses more on teaching us methods and techniques for understanding, critical thinking. I believe you would love this class Raymond."

Ellen coughed lightly, interrupting his explanation. "The teacher for this class also seems very excited to meet you Raymond. "

"That is true, she expressed immense disappointment when you were not present for her class Raymond. "

Were they trying to guilt trip Raymond into attending her class?

"Last would be special class essential knowledge. Mainly focusing on important skills and knowledge we would need in the future after graduating. But we also learn a lot of crucial knowledge regarding awakened work and how to act in public."

Special class students had three different classes and were forced to go on several missions earlier then other students.

Why did they have all these classes? Because the academy was placing all its chips on them be coming heroes.

Although the academy was literally called the Academy for Heroes. The actual number of students who became ’heroes’ could be counted on one hand.

A hero in the world of Terra was simply an individual who made great accomplishments in helping humanity.

That’s why even his instructor Sienna who was an SS- rank wasn’t called a hero.

But most students who graduated would simply choose to work for guilds, the government or go solo.

Rarely would any graduate actually accomplish a feat worthy enough to make themselves be called a hero.

Raymond felt a small bit of pity for the academy. Try as they might, the Academy for Heroes was struggling to create a hero.

Well, they would soon hit the jackpot. Zachary, Thomas, Noelle, Ellen, Audrina, Lin and Arthur.

Although Thomas and Noelle would die before fighting against the demon king.

And Arthur would be considered as more of a pseudo-hero rather then an actual hero.

That was still seven! The academy would have nearly tripled it’s heroes ’produced’ and they were all within the same year!

Raymond wondered whether the academy had celebrated this achievement in the past timeline.

I mean, they definitely did right?

Seeing Raymond deep in thought, Thomas continued his conversation attempts with the others. "Have you all submitted your club applications yet? What clubs are you joining?"

"I’m joining Sky Soaring, New Elites, Fight Club and the Archery club.", Ellen replied.

Noelle whistled sharply at that, "Four core clubs and zero non-core clubs? Are you trying to get burnout?"

"I can handle it, Sky Soaring and New Elites don’t require too much anyways. Besides aren’t you in six clubs with four core clubs as well?"

Noelle defended herself, "Literature and Astronomy club are non-core clubs. They don’t require much from me. "

Thomas perked up slightly, "Literature? I had no idea you had such a taste for the fine arts."

"It’s just a small hobby I have. What about you? What clubs are you in?"

"I am currently in Sky Soaring and Fight club as well as the swordsmanship club, travel club, cooki...

Raymond counted 23 clubs by the time he finished listing them all—not including the core clubs.

"...so many clubs?"

"I merely wish to experience as much as I can. Besides, a lot of my friends pleaded for me to join theirs."

"I see... but you’re also in the modeling club?"

Raymond shouldn’t have been surprised at that, it seemed like appearance was their main priority there.

"Are you also in the modeling club Raymond?"

He nodded, "Sky Soaring, Mages For Life, Coffee and Modeling club."

Ellen felt her mouth twitch slightly.

’Modeling club?’

"I see, then what about you Audrina?"

If all of then excluding Thomas was quiet, then Audrina was undoubtedly the most quiet out if them.

Raymond couldn’t even hear her breathe! Which he supposed made sense for an assassin.

"... Sky soaring, fight club, cooking club and the self-control club. "

Noelle placed her cheek on her fist, "All of us are in Sky Soaring? Looks like we’ll meet there often then."

Not just meet each other, but Sky Soaring would also be where the members of the Zachary gang met for the first time.

Sky Soaring and Fight club would be where the Zachary gang would slowly be formed.

If Raymond joined fight club then they would all be sharing two core clubs together. Alas, he was the only one who didn’t.

Because why in the world would he ever join a club meant solely for fighting!

Thomas pointed it out first, "It is a shame that Raymond isn’t in Fight club, otherwise we would all be in the same two clubs."

"Why aren’t you in the fight club Raymond? It would be a good opportunity for us to spar again. "

’These damn battle junkies!’

Was their two classes not enough already? They still wanted to fight even more?

Raymond answered, "I don’t particularly enjoy fighting."

"... you do not enjoy the act of battle?"

That was the first time Audrina spoke up on her own during their conversation.

"What’s wrong with not enjoying how to fight? I don’t like being all sweaty and hot—why do you think I learn ice magic?"

Noelle felt speechless,"You only learned ice magic to stay cold?"

"What other reason is there?"

She screamed inside her head, ’This is the person I lost to?!’

"Raymond, what about your core? Are you going to for force it to be ice-attuned then? "

"If it’s not then I’ll just change magic disciplines. It’s not that hard anyways."

"What about all those years practicing ice magic?"

Thomas was right to be worried, if Raymond really did form a core that wasn’t ice-attuned. He would essentially be tossing years of his life away.

"Well, it is what it is you know? What about you?"

He coughed lightly, "Ehem, well I feel reasonably confident in my own talent in the future."

Raymond and Ellen both looked at each other. The same knowing smile on their faces.

All angels would form a holy energy core, and all demons would form a demonic energy core.

It was a natural part of their life cycle. It was literally impossible to change.

"I see...what about you two? Are you also confident in your future as well?", he gestured to Noelle and Audrina.

"The Asteria family has many methods to guarantee I develop an astral affinity."

Audrina only gave off a small nod in reply.

A small silence broke out between them all again.

Thomas thankfully stepped in quickly to prevent things from getting too awkward.

"If you all do not mind. Why don’t we each share a few things about ourselves? Since we must work together on actual missions, I believe this could help us achieve better teamwork."

An icebreaker essentially, letting each person share select things about themselves.

Raymond asked, "Sure, who wants to go first?"

Seeing no one volunteered, Thomas—bless his heart. Once again volunteered to go first.

Having someone who talked a lot was really helpful at times like these.

Maybe that was why Zachary and Arthur got along with them all so well actually. Despite being in different classes for most of the time, they would soon develop an extremely close friendship.
