Descent of the Demon Master-Chapter 1091. Dispatched (1)
Chapter 1091. Dispatched (1)
Lee Hyeon-Su’s eyes widened.
“Did you say the Round Table, master?”
“That I did,” Wiggins coolly nodded.
Lee Hyeon-Su clamped his slack jaw shut.
‘What the heck is going on here?’
Why was he suddenly getting dispatched to the Round Table?
Suspicion quickly filled Lee Hyeon-Su’s mind. And it reflected in the way he stared at Wiggins.
However, the Englishman remained unperturbed. It was as if he was merely conveying a simple message.
But Lee Hyeon-Su was a man well versed in cooking up things and sweeping them under the carpets. He could easily pick up on the suspicious smell wafting out from this event.
He needed to know more before making his mind up.
“I don’t quite understand what you’re saying, master.”
Wiggins shrugged. “Nothing complicated about it. You’re heading to the Round Table for your administrative training.”
“But, why? Didn’t we agree to utilize Jaegyeong’s services?”
“The situation has evolved somewhat,” said Wiggins with a gentle smile. “Jaegyeong was initially chosen not because it offered the best educational facilities and opportunities. No, it was because we couldn’t think of a more suitable alternative.”
“Yes, I know that. But...”
“In that sense, the Round Table is a better place for you to train than Jaegyeong.”
“I still don’t follow, master.” Lee Hyeon-Su replied, still puzzled.
“Aren’t you going to Jaegyeong’s lectures to figure out our new system? The Assembly will have to deal with the surface world now. But the problem with that is no one here has any experience of doing that.”
“Well, yes.”
“And so, the initial idea was for you to experience how companies in the surface world operate and to use that experience to link our upcoming business venture with the Assembly.”
“...I, uh, guess so?”
Lee Hyeon-Su falteringly turned his head, still unsure of where this was going. He could see the top of Kang Jin-Ho's head just beyond the computer monitor. And the Assembly Master was speedily typing away on the keyboard in silence.
‘Huh. Is there really no ulterior motive here?’
The one who decided on Lee Hyeon-Su's participation in Jaegyeong's training program was none other than Kang Jin-Ho. If he said jump, people like Lee Hyeon-Su had no choice but to ask how high. Since that was the case, he didn’t bother to dig any deeper to uncover the potential ulterior motive behind this arrangement.
That didn’t mean Lee Hyeon-Su couldn’t make educated guesses, though!
Logic said Kang Jin-Ho's motivation was pretty much in line with what Wiggins said. However, the Assembly Master could be a rather capricious person. It was entirely possible that his true motivation could be something else. Something more nefarious!
...And no one would know what that was unless the man himself decided to clear up the mystery!
Wiggins continued to explain. “We all agreed that the idea itself is rather excellent. Up until yesterday, that was probably the best option available to us. But that was when we weren’t counting on the Round Table’s assistance.”
“...H-hold on, master!” Lee Hyeon-Su hurriedly stopped Wiggins, his complexion turning ever so slightly pale. “Are you saying the Round Table genuinely wants to teach me?”
“Yes. It is.”
“Why?”
“Maybe you could thank the Master of the Round Table’s pure-minded generosity.”
Lee Hyeon-Su scowled deeply.
‘That is a load of bullsh*t, and you know it!’
He learned pretty early on in his career that pure-minded generosity in this world amounted to as “much” as the percentage of taurine found in a can of a certain popular energy drink.
One would have to be gullible enough to believe Vator had a frail physique to fall for such an obvious lie.
‘Now I’m totally convinced. There is an ulterior motive here!’
Especially when looking at Wiggins’ suspicious attitude! The way he tried to maintain this unperturbed, relaxed demeanor couldn’t be any more obvious even if he tried! This whole thing stank to high heavens, and Lee Hyeon-Su didn’t like it one bit.
‘It’s a trap!’
A trap he must never fall for!
“But, uh... is it really necessary for me to go through the Round Table’s education program?”
“Yes. Because it's the best,” Wiggins grinned affably while explaining. “Your duty is to ensure the link between the Assembly and its business department operating in the surface world is as smooth and trouble-free as possible. The focal point here is to figure out how to funnel the profits generated legitimately into the Assembly, and also to learn how not to lose our control over our business interests.”
“Yes, that is correct.”
“And the Round Table has been doing that for eons of time.”
“...Oh!”
Lee Hyeon-Su briefly thought about it and realized Wiggins was right.
The Round Table had been dealing with the surface world for a very long time.
Different European nations were financially supporting it, but such funds shouldn't have been enough to manage a large organization like that.
Undoubtedly, it must be operating its own business interests, too.
“There is no better place to use as a reference point than the Round Table. Wouldn’t you agree?” Wiggins slyly asked.
“I admit that you’re totally right on this one, master. I do.”
“Fufufu! Then, hurry and pack your...”
Lee Hyeon-Su suddenly raised his voice. “However!”
“Mm?” Wiggins cocked an eyebrow and looked up.
Lee Hyeon-Su was standing tall with the face of a determined man.
“Fufufu...! You must’ve thought you could brilliantly fool me, but! Don’t forget that I’m Lee Hyeon-Su, master. I've gone through figurative Hell to get this far in life. You should know that I won’t fall for such obvious attempts.”
“...What are you trying to say, my dear disciple?”
“Yes, I will learn many useful things by going to the Round Table. But that alone isn’t a good enough reason for me to head there in the first place! Do you know why? Because you already have all the knowledge we need!”
“K-kuh-hum...” Wiggins nastily flinched as if his plot had been dramatically exposed.
“Considering you've been a Knight for over a decade! And also considering your personality of not letting things go unless everything is as perfect as it can be! There is no way you don't know anything about running a successful business operation in the surface world, master! If push comes to shove, you can directly train me, no?
“You know this, yet you still insist on dispatching me to the Round Table. In other words, there is an ulterior motive at play here!”
What a sharp bastard Lee Hyeon-Su was. Wiggins pouted slightly while staring at his “favorite” disciple. Not only was this brat not adorable at all, but he was way too quick on the uptake, too!
Then again, that was what made Lee Hyeon-Su special, now wasn’t it?
“Fufufu...! You’ve made an under-the-table deal with the Round Table, haven’t you, master?”
“Mm...!”
As if he had secured his victory, Lee Hyeon-Su sat down and reclined on the couch while haughtily crossing his legs. “Master... You seem to have picked up a habit of underestimating me recently. Unfortunately, you can’t fool me with such obvious tactics. So, no. I’m not going to the Round Table but join Jaegyeong’s training program as scheduled.”
“H-hold on, now. I’m telling you the Round Table will...”
“Honoring promises is important, master. We promised I'd go, so not showing up would affect the trust between us and Jaegyeong, wouldn't you say? That is why, this time...”
Kang Jin-Ho suddenly spoke up. “You’re going to the Round Table.”
Lee Hyeon-Su’s head snapped toward the computer. Even Wiggins also turned to look, although a triumphant smirk was etched on his face.
Taptap, tap!
Kang Jin-Ho speedily tapped on the enter key before standing up. “We can somehow deal with the broken promise. So, don’t worry about it and go to the Round Table.” freēnovelkiss.com
“B-but, Assembly Master!”
“My lord!”
Lee Hyeon-Su and Wiggins called out to Kang Jin-Ho almost simultaneously. However, the intent behind their calls differed significantly. While Lee Hyeon-Su was freaking out and wanted to convey his dismay, Wiggins was trying to say, ‘Nice work, my lord!’
“H-hold on, sir!” Lee Hyeon-Su shot up to his feet. “I, uh, I can’t go somewhere that far!”
Kang Jin-Ho cocked his eyebrow. “Why not?”
Lee Hyeon-Su nervously swallowed his saliva.
‘Come on, Lee Hyeon-Su! Think, man! Think!’
He must come up with a perfect reason why he shouldn’t go.
Wiggins started this whole thing. In that case, there was no freaking way it’d be good news for Lee Hyeon-Su!
Without a doubt, Wiggins must be planning to squeeze Lee Hyeon-Su dry with work until there was nothing left to squeeze anymore.
Going to the UK meant entering Hell. Lee Hyeon-Su must escape from this predicament, no matter what!
“W-wouldn’t my absence create major issues in the Assembly? Attending the training program is one thing, but I still need to do my job here. My original plan was to attend the program during the day and come back here in the evenings to deal with the Assembly’s matters, sir. But that’s not going to work if I have to travel to the UK.”
“It'll be fine,” said Kang Jin-Ho while pointing at the computer with his chin. “I can handle your work in the meantime.”
“...I’m sorry?”
“I’m already finished.”
Lee Hyeon-Su’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
‘Finished? Finished with what?!’
Could Kang Jin-Ho be referring to all the work Lee Hyeon-Su had given him not too long ago?
Lee Hyeon-Su stared in disbelief at Kang Jin-Ho.
He had been “teaching” Kang Jin-Ho what he did in the office. More specifically, he was trying to prepare Kang Jin-Ho so the latter could handle some of the work while Lee Hyeon-Su was away on the training program.
Until today, the share of the work wasn't all that much. That changed today, though, after Lee Hyeon-Su dumped a crap ton of work on Kang Jin-Ho as a trial run.
How much was a crap ton? All the paperwork Lee Hyeon-Su had to finish by today!
He wanted to let Kang Jin-Ho know how badly the Assembly would be affected by his absence. And at the same time...
‘...I wanted to screw him over, too. So what the heck?’
It was Lee Hyeon-Su’s idea of protest, to let his boss know how unreasonable his workload had been.
But Kang Jin-Ho said he finished all the work? Even though it hadn’t even been two hours since he started?
“H-hold on a sec! I need to confirm this!” Lee Hyeon-Su urgently cried out while shooting up to his feet. Without wasting a breath, he rushed to Kang Jin-Ho’s computer.
Accessing his boss’s computer without permission was against workplace etiquette, but Lee Hyeon-Su was too shocked to even consider that right now.
He hurriedly accessed all the document files and opened them all. His trembling eyes quickly perused them.
“Huh...?”
Kang Jin-Ho wasn’t exaggerating?
In that case, could Lee Hyeon-Su find any fault with...
“...Eh? Wait a minute!”
Lee Hyeon-Su realized he couldn’t pick faults even if he wanted to after thinking about it for a second.
“H-hold on?! Isn’t this cheating?”
Kang Jin-Ho cocked an eyebrow again. “What? Why?”
“N-no, I mean...” Lee Hyeon-Su grimaced like the wrongly accused man while staring at his boss. He should have realized this sooner!
The steps Lee Hyeon-Su took while handling paperwork usually went like this. Once someone submitted a request, he'd try to map out the most optimal and efficient ways to handle it. He'd then send reports to relevant departments in the Assembly or to the directors and ask for their assistance.
Most directors would casually wave their hands away and tell Lee Hyeon-Su to handle it however he saw fit. But he still had to report to them and get their confirmation first. That was non-negotiable.
However, Kang Jin-Ho could skip this part altogether. Why? Because he was the bloody Assembly Master, that was why!
If a request landed on his desk, he could deal with it as he saw fit, then announce the result to the parties involved. That was it.
‘As an example, this one over here... Huh...’
Lee Hyeon-Su was now staring at the paperwork regarding one of the requests that had been giving him a lot of headaches recently.
The demon cult members wanted a supermarket in their residential area to purchase their daily necessities.
Such a request might seem rather absurd on the surface, but this matter wasn’t as straightforward as it sounded.
Over ten thousand demon cult members currently resided in the residential area. And their family members arriving from China were also settling in nicely.
All in all, over twenty thousand people were projected to live in that place before long. Even a blind should see that they would need lots and lots of stuff to, well, live like human beings.
However, the residential area was built in the middle of nowhere deep in the unnamed mountainside.
These people required many things but nowhere to get them from. The nearest shop they could buy stuff from was a supermarket in the nearby town. But the problem with these people was that...
‘...They are all illegal aliens!’
Technically speaking, the Korean Martial Assembly was one of the worst criminal organizations in this country that had human-trafficked over ten thousand illegal immigrants!
What a grave, unforgivable crime that was, indeed!
Now imagine a supermarket opening its doors in such a residential area. No one would be able to stop the information about these people from leaking out to who knows where.
However, telling the demon cult members to shop in nearby towns and cities presented its own set of challenges, too. Namely...
‘Again, they are illegal aliens!’
...None of them owned cars!
The only available mode of private transport for the “undocumented migrants” was a bicycle. However, telling over ten thousand people to use bicycles for their shopping trips? That obviously wasn't going to work out!
But life had to continue on regardless of what he thought. So, Lee Hyeon-Su was trying to build a sort-of supermarket run by handpicked people who used to work in the Assembly in the past.
Unfortunately, this matter was incredibly complicated, and the construction kept getting delayed until now.
Transporting enough goods to feed and clothe over ten thousand people into the middle of nowhere was no easy feat. Getting the cooperation of various goods distributors was a given, and the prospective supermarket must be registered with the relevant government authorities, too...
In summary, this was a time-consuming and headache-inducing matter. And the headache only got worse with Chang Min charging into the office every so often and throwing a hissy fit about how the demon cult members didn't even have enough soap to wash their faces with.
But here was Kang Jin-Ho, resolving that crisis oh-so simply and concisely. He flushed down the drain all the hard work Lee Hyeon-Su had put in to earn the cooperation of various companies and even the permit from the government with one simple public announcement.
-Consider it a part of your training and run to the supermarket.
‘The nearest supermarket is ten bloody kilometers away, sir! Ten!’
Running over ten kilometers just to... buy a blood ice cream cone?! How the hell did that even make any sense! Even if the demon cult members were martial artists!
This was oppression! This was the height of tyranny!
Even though this was all true...
“...Sir, did you already send this, uh, memo to everyone?” Lee Hyeon-Su cautiously asked.
Kang Jin-Ho coolly nodded. “Yeah, I have.”
“When did you do it?”
“About one hour ago?”
“Oh...” Lee Hyeon-Su blinked his eyes before smiling brightly.
Well, there you go, then.
That’s how the cookie crumbles.
If the demon emperor tells you to run, it's your job to run. If you don't want to get beaten up to a pulp, that is...
Kang Jin-Ho certainly was super-efficient with work, wasn’t he? Way, way too efficient, in fact! It was just that...
‘Will this be alright?’
Would things be okay at this rate?
For some reason, Lee Hyeon-Su thought he could hear people’s soft sobbing coming from somewhere.
