Descent of the Demon Master-Chapter 1279. Cooperating (4)
The room was so quiet that not even the sound of breathing could be heard now.
Only then did the gangsters remember who was sitting in front of their astonished eyes. And that man was... the Yeongnam Group’s devil!
Not a single person who dared to go against Lee Hyeon-Su enjoyed a good end. Either they died, or ended up crippled. There was no other fate.
Despite knowing this, these gangsters still allowed the situation to come this far because Lee Hyeon-Su seemed to have changed so much recently.
All of Lee Hyeon-Su’s viciousness and killing intent capable of stopping a beating heart with just a glare were all gone now, replaced by this... strange mellowness. That was why these men had let their guard down. And the consequences of their foolishness were this.
“Get out of my sight before I slaughter you all right here,” said Lee Hyeon-Su.
The three gangsters still in one piece exchanged urgent glances with each other. If they disregarded his order and remained, they might really die tonight. No, forget might, they would really lose their lives!
Lee Hyeon-Su was fully capable of doing this, after all!
However, returning to their organizations and trying to bring their bosses here would mean a certain death, too!
They would die regardless of what, in other words! Then, what were they supposed to do?
That was when Yu Beom-Yeong carefully got up and picked up a sake bottle. He then began pouring the booze into an empty cup before Lee Hyeon-Su even more carefully.
Driiip...
Lee Hyeon-Su silently watched his cup being filled.
Yu Beom-Yeong spoke in a cautious voice. “Chief Lee... We wouldn’t be living like this if we could behave like normal people. We’ve forgotten about our manners and became thoughtless apes after spending all our time surrounded by bastards like ourselves, sir. That’s why... All I can do is ask for your forgiveness and gracious understanding.”
“Forgiveness, you say?” Lee Hyeon-Su growled, his voice still icy.
However, Yu Beom-Yeong smiled affably. “Also, as you already know, our bosses coming here won’t solve anything at all. I mean, aren’t they all stubborn and deaf boomers? If they try to convey your orders to the rest of us, even the most simple jobs will turn into Mission: Impossible.”
“...”
“Allow me to apologize on this idiot’s behalf, sir. Please calm your anger. Hey, Bak Jong-Gu! What are you doing, man?”
Bak Jong-Gu staggered back up, only to kneel down before Lee Hyeon-Su. “My, my apologies, sir. I let my blood rush to my head...”
“Tsk...!”
Lee Hyeon-Su quietly tutted.
It was as Yu Beom-Yeong had said; these people lived this way because they couldn’t behave like everybody else. Even so, they still “eked out a living” all thanks to their basic principles and unwritten rules. Yu Beom-Yeong was ably demonstrating one of those rules right now.
Even Bak Jong-Gu obediently bowed his head without displaying any hostile emotions. Because in their world, they did not challenge the strong. They could respond this way precisely because they knew how terrifying strength could be.
Lee Hyeon-Su glanced at the kneeling man. “Take a seat.”
“Yes, sir!”
Bak Jong-Gu got up and returned to his seat.
“Now, gimme that,” said Lee Hyeon-Su.
He received the sake bottle from Yu Beon-Yeong and began pouring the booze into the empty cups of the gangsters.
The gangsters, who had been cautiously observing the situation, raised their cups as if they were about to receive something incredibly glorious and accepted the sake.
“Listen up,” said Lee Hyeon-Su.
“Yes, Chief Lee?”
“I’ve been trying to turn a new leaf these days, okay? That’s why you gotta work with me here. Do you get what I’m saying?”
“Yes, sir!”
Now that the volatile situation had calmed down somewhat, Yu Beom-Yeong felt safe enough to start sweating buckets. He knew he was inches away from death just now!
If he had his way, he would’ve dearly loved to drag Bak Jong-Gu out of here.
There was always the right time and place to try their luck at securing one’s benefits. But to think that Bak Jong-Gu would idiotically try to do that very thing in front of Lee Hyeon-Su! Having ten lives wouldn’t have been enough to save his hide.
In fact, Bak Jong-Gu wouldn’t have behaved this way if he still had some memories of what Lee Hyeon-Su was like during his Yeongnam Group days.
People wouldn’t change just because the era they were in had changed.
This might be a strange assertion for Yu Beom-Yeong to have, but he believed the current era was wonderful for gangsters like him.
In the past, when the Martial Assembly was under Lee Jung-Geol’s control and Kim Seok-Il ran the Yeongnam Group with an iron fist, the gangsters like Yu Beom-Yeong couldn’t even breathe properly.
Riff-raffs who had no idea about the martial world’s interference did whatever the hell that pleased them, but those who did know? They had no choice but to kowtow and toe the line like obedient little pets.
However, once the stupidly lengthy reigns of Lee Jung-Geol and Kim Seok-Il came to a bloody end, the Korean gangsters finally found some breathing space for themselves. That was because the new Assembly Master, a man named Kang Jin-Ho, held little to no interest in organized crime.
Better still, the Martial Assembly’s overall characteristics had become a lot mellower than before, too!
All these things had led to this situation of these four gangsters sitting face-to-face with Lee Hyeon-Su. If this was in the past, the four men wouldn’t be sitting pretty on these fancy chairs but kneeling on the floor instead!
Actually, no. They would more likely be kowtowing on the floor, shivering pitifully like scared dogs!
Yup. Humans should know to behave themselves when their superiors are treating them nicely. That f*cking Bak Jong-Gu bastard, how could he forget his place like that!
Yu Beom-Yeong’s blood boiled, but he ably masked it and put on a bright smile instead.
Lee Hyeon-Su glanced at the four men. “You guys handle the sharing of the benefits among yourselves. But if you guys can’t play nice, I’ll have to consider demanding our cut of the profits, too. You get what I’m saying, don’t you?”
“Understood, Chief Lee.” Bak Jong-Gu bowed deeply. “I was being thoughtless, sir.”
“As for the method, I’ll leave that up to you. However...” Lee Hyeon-Su’s expression stiffened. “Our Assembly Master is paying close attention to this matter. So, if you don’t handle this properly...”
Lee Hyeon-Su’s silent glare stabbed painfully into the four gangsters.
That glare was enough. No other words were necessary. That look prompted the gangsters to resolve themselves to wrap this matter up as perfectly as possible regardless of the methods used, after all!
“Now, drink.”
“Yes, sir!”
The four gangsters politely turned their heads away and one-shotted the sake down their throat, before cautiously placing the empty cups on the table.
Lee Hyeon-Su addressed the four again. “I know that, rules-wise, we shouldn’t be ordering your side around.”
“No, sir. It’s fine.”
“You’ll have to be more understanding of the situation this time, fellas. If we don’t do it this way, we’ll have to get involved personally. I’m sure none of you want that, right?”
“Of course, sir!” Bak Jong-Gu energetically replied.
Almost at the same time, Yu Beom-Yeong covered his face with both hands.
This fool should think first before blurting out what was on his mind!
It was as if Bak Jong-Gu was cosplaying as a “Buddy F*cker” here!
“...Yes, you don’t want that,” Lee Hyeon-Su replied while cocking an eyebrow. “Even then, we’ll have to step in if you can’t handle it. You all know what outcome awaits us once the rules are broken, right?”
Before Bak Jong-Gu could blurt out something else, Yu Beom-Yeong spoke up first. “Chief Lee. I assure you, you don’t have to worry. We also do not wish to see these drugs entering Korea. If it hadn’t been for the suspicion of the Assembly members’ involvement, we would have dealt with the Chilsung faction already.”
“Sure, if you say so.”
“Now that we have your permission, we’ll handle this thing cleanly, sir. Please don’t worry.”
“While wiping out the Chilsung faction, take care of the small fries handling the drug distribution, too. But go easy on them, since they were being used.” 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
“Understood, sir. Leave it to us.”
Lee Hyeon-Su nodded, then got up to leave.
Yu Beom-Yeong cautiously asked, “Are you leaving already, sir?”
“Yeah. With me around, you will get indigestion, anyway. By the way, what was your name again?”
“It’s Yu Beom-Yeong, Chief Lee.”
“Got it. I’ll remember you. You act as the representative of this group and keep me updated.”
“Understood. You can trust me.”
Lee Hyeon-Su scanned the four men. “I know you guys worked hard while we’re closing shop on our old business interests. We’re thankful for that. Handle this problem well, and I’ll compensate you properly in the near future.”
“N-no, sir. That’s not necessary.”
“Yes, sir. You don’t have to do that.”
Lee Hyeon-Su ignored the replies and continued on. “After this matter is wrapped up, the Assembly won’t interfere again. Unless we’re facing another problem like this one, that is. So, handle it properly. Understand?”
“Yes, sir!”
Lee Hyeon-Su nodded, then left the room.
Slam!
As soon as the door was slid shut, the four gangsters hurriedly pulled out cigarettes and mouthed them. Soon after that, the room was filled with the cigarette-induced smoky haze.
“F*ck... This sh*t blows.”
Even though these four were big fish in their pond, they still ended up looking like privates being disciplined by their division commander! However, what could they do about it? When the Martial Assembly in a serious mode wouldn’t even need three hours to obliterate a criminal organization?
To this quartet, whose entire lives were a series of violence, the Martial Assembly was an existence they would never dare go against.
They knew they were powerless to resist, but their innards still burned painfully from this experience.
“Hey, Yu Beom-Yeong,” Bak Jong-Gu suddenly raised his voice.
Yu Beom-Yeong glanced back. “What now?”
“What’s your plan? Don’t f*cking tell me, your side will swallow everything up?”
“Yeah.”
“What the f*ck, man?!”
Yu Beom-Yeong smirked. “What’s the alternative, then? You want the management rights to the Chilsung bastards’ business interests? Does that mean you don’t mind driving past our territories every single day? In a taxi, I presume.”
“Even so! Where are your manners, man! Your honor!”
“Then, support us. We’ll hand over some of our businesses nearest to your territories.”
“...” Bak Jong-Gu furrowed his brow. “How much are we talking about here?”
“That depends on how much we’ll get from destroying the Chilsung bastards. I mean, if we get nothing much for our troubles, wouldn’t that be a net loss? Don’t worry, we’ll make sure the calculations are right to the last cent, so keep your pants on and wait, okay?”
“Mm...!” Bak Jong-Gu slowly nodded. Although Yu Beom-Yeong was well known for being an as*hole, he could also be trustworthy in these kinds of things. Since he said he’d do these things, he wouldn’t try to backstab Bak Jong-Gu or the others here. “Fine. How much support do you want from us, then?”
“Everything you have to give.”
“Say what?”
“I’m saying, bring everyone you can find. Chief Lee said he’ll stop the cops, right? That means he expects us to go all the way and wrap this matter up properly. We let even a single Chilsung bastard escape, and we’ll be dead meat, okay?”
“...”
“I definitely don’t want to die a dog’s death over this sh*t. So, you better send every f*cking one available. Because Imma use this chance to snub the Chilsung bastards completely out of existence.”
The other three gangsters in the room silently nodded in agreement.
In the past, when the Yeongnam Group based in Gyeongsang Province was still around, Lee Hyeon-Su would sometimes summon the heads of gangs for various things.
But today was the first time he had done that after joining the Martial Assembly. Which could only mean he and the Assembly considered this drug debacle a matter of grave importance. The gangsters knew they could not afford to be sloppy this time.
Yu Beom-Yeong glanced at the other three. “By the way, I’m asking this just in case, but... If any of you are dealing in drugs, wrap that sh*t up as quickly as possible.”
“Hah! Who’s crazy enough to do that?”
The gangsters scoffed derisively, except for one man.
“...!”
When Bak Jong-Gu’s expression became weird, Yu Beom-Yeong face-palmed grandly. Argh, I wanna kill that bastard so much! Can’t I, like, bite the bullet and rip his head off for good? Can’t I?!
Even though he knew he shouldn’t, Yu Beom-Yeong wanted to make that dream a reality so badly.
“What the f*ck, you dipsh*t?! Do you want to see your organization snubbed out for good?! F*ck me. You saw how Chief Lee was razor-focused about this sh*t, but you still went ahead with f*cking drugs?”
Bak Jong-Gu hurriedly shook his head. “N-no, wait! Don’t be ridiculous! It’s not that, but...! It’s just that some bastards contacted us, that’s all! Those f*cking Chinese bastards were, like... B-besides! It’s not like we’ve accepted their shipments yet, you know?!”
“You better drop those Chinese bastards, whoever they are, and wash your hands clean off of it, you dumb sh*t! Unless you want to swim in your own blood!”
“Got it, man! Okay! I got it!”
The room grew chaotic in an instant as the gangsters traded insults. Eventually, though, they calmed down enough to keep their volumes lower. The four men groaned loudly while nursing their drinks.
Yu Beom-Yeong muttered, “Come on, let’s get this sh*t over with, and with as few problems as possible, okay? I don’t wanna go back to the days of Lee Jung-Geol. Do you get what I’m saying? Keep this up, and Chief Lee might get the red mist and try to control us like before. If that happens, I’m telling you, stress will get to me in less than three years!”
“It’s the same thing for us, okay?”
The more they thought about it, the angrier these gangsters got toward the Chilsung faction. Why did they have to get involved with drugs and make other people’s lives so difficult?
Sure, the Assembly members had approached the Chilsung faction first. But these four knew that this situation wouldn’t have come about without the Chilsung bastards agreeing to go along with this nonsense in the first place!
“In any case... I gotta get things ready as quickly as possible, so you also get your people ready to go, too. And don’t ignore all the calls for help that will come your way every now and then.”
“Got it, man.”
After organizing things here, Yu Beom-Yeong took a deep puff of his cigarette.
F*ck... What would you idiots know, anyway?
These fools probably thought that the Assembly was giving them yet another job, like in the past. Yu Beom-Yeong obviously had realized that things weren’t as simple as that, but didn’t have the confidence to make his companions understand that.
I mean, Lee Hyeon-Su has personally shown up here. And he even mentioned the Assembly Master, too. Which means... This might be the first Assembly Master-level command issued to the lower ranks since the Assembly got reorganized!
So, what would happen if they failed to handle this matter properly? Yu Beom-Yeong shuddered in dread. He didn’t even want to imagine that outcome!
Judging from how the Assembly Master used the demonic Lee Hyeon-Su like his personal pet, that man’s abilities must be unquestionable. Yu Beom-Yeong would rather bite his tongue and kill himself rather than get on the bad side of someone like that!
I won’t allow any mistakes. I will wrap this sh*t up as perfectly as possible!
Yu Beom-Yeong resolved himself over and over again.
