Devouring Dragon Heir-Chapter 29: Ch kill
Chapter 29: Ch 29 kill
Klaus looked up, his gaze sweeping across the figures of multiple Yetis emerging from the shadows of the surrounding glaciers and icy crevices.
They moved with an ominous, silent intent, systematically fanning out to form a wide encirclement around him. The air grew colder, thick with the Yetis’ collective aura.
They were ready to kill the human who had dared to kill their children.
"Well, it seems you want to surround me," Klaus chuckled, a dry, humorless sound that carried a hint of dangerous amusement in the frigid air.
He was outnumbered by hundreds, but felt no fear.
With that, he drew out his sword, Lost Echo, its dark blade humming faintly in his hand, a subtle blue glow emanating from its blade.
Klaus stood poised, Lost Echo held ready, facing the hundreds of Yetis that had now completed their encirclement.
"Well, that youngling must be quite influential among Yetis," Klaus said, rubbing the flat of his sword’s blade with an air of confidence while standing in the centre of the encirlement as if ready to slaughter the chickens around him.
The Yetis, a formidable assembly of warriors, showed eerie, confident smiles on their faces, their sharp teeth bared. They seemed sure they would be able to hunt the young man in front of them, to avenge their fallen kin.
And why not? To their senses, the human only gave off the aura of a C-rank hunter, a mere ant in their eyes, easily overwhelmed by their numbers and strength. Their leaders, larger and more imposing, let out low growls, signaling their intent.
Klaus didn’t give them any more space to think or to coordinate their attack. He simply disappeared from where he stood. He had activated Phantom Veil, masking his presence completely, and simultaneously activated Apex Velocity, multiplying his speed by a thousand. This was a deadly combination, turning him into an undetectable, lightning-fast blur.
Then, he started his assault, attacking with his Stellar Sword Descent. He used all three of its unlocked forms alternately, a whirlwind of golden starlight and chilling ice.
Star Touch he used for powerful single strikes on the leaders, Song of the Stars for devastating combinations on groups of younglings, and Star Sword’s Cry for focused beams of a fusion of star plus ice elemental energy to obliterate their collective hoards.
Panic spread like wildfire among the Yeti warriors. Before they could even blink, before their slow, primitive minds could register a threat, they saw their comrades falling one by one, mysteriously decapitated or torn apart by unseen forces.
The human had also completely disappeared from their sight, rendering their encirclement useless. They could not even trust their enhanced reflexes, as the attacks were too fast, too brutal, and came from every direction at once.
Yetis roared in confusion and fear, their organized formation dissolving into a chaotic scramble.
In a matter of a few minutes, the heads of most of the Yetis had already been separated from their bodies, their blue blood staining the pristine white snow.
The ground was littered with their ugly lifeless forms.
This time, too, Klaus deliberately let a single, severely injured survivor return, ensuring it would carry the tale of the massacre back to attract even more attention from the Yeti tribe, specifically their strongest warriors and elders.
Klaus then proceeded to absorb the few hundred Yetis he had slain. He moved methodically, activating Origin Absorption on each fallen body.
He knew that selling corpses of these Yetis to someone like Shakala would bring unwanted attention to him. The sudden influx of high-value Yeti corpses, especially after the gate’s mysterious disappearance, would undoubtedly raise suspicions since he had done the same one time before.
So Klaus decided to just absorb everything and not save any loot from his hunt to sell, as he could currently suffice with the money he had.
And even though he could try to fabricate a story about having "special connections" to a supplier of such rare corpses, he still didn’t want to take those chances. Human greed, he knew, usually blinded people and made them do dangerous endeavours.
While he was thinking, the information panel for the A-ranked Yetis opened in front of him, detailing their specific traits and skills.
****
Race: Yeti
Rank: A
Traits:
-Natural Armor: Thick fur and hide provide inherent resistance to cold and physical blunt force.
-Claws & Fangs: Sharp natural weapons for melee combat.
-Enhanced Movement: Ice is the natural terrain of the Yeti, granting it enhanced movement and instincts, allowing it to navigate icy landscapes with superior agility and speed.
Skills:
-Freezing Roar (C): A terrifying roar that can disorient foes, causing minor frost damage and fear.
-Ice Arrow (B): Create arrows of ice to hurl at enemies with increased speed and precision compared to the youngling’s version.
-Frost Breath (B): Exhales a cone of freezing air that can slow and damage enemies, and also cause a freezing effect on contact.
-Ice Armor (A): Forms a temporary armor of solid ice capable of protecting against both physical and magical attacks, providing a significant defensive boost.
-Ice Conjure (A): Conjure complex ice weapons, such as swords, axes, or spears, that deal more than twice the normal damage of ordinary weapons.

Klaus noticed the significant difference between the panels of the younglings and these A-ranked Yeti warriors.
The major difference he saw was the A-ranked Ice Conjure skill. This was a powerful ability. Klaus was also capable of ice manipulation, but it was a direct effect of his increased affinity and raw control over the element.
Unlike the Yetis, the limitations to only conjure weapons didn’t exist in his case; he could theoretically make a goddamn ice castle if he wanted to, although it would take much of his focus and energy at his current affinity level.
Klaus then decided to prioritize absorbing the skills Ice Arrow, Ice Conjure, and Ice Armor. These three skills offered ranged offense, powerful melee options, and significant defense, respectively.
ice conjure was also usefull temporarily and he knew soon his affinity would catchup to the skill.
Meanwhile, the Ice Breath or Freezing Roar skills weren’t that much use for him. He already had Haunt for fear and disorientation, and he didn’t particularly want to shout like beasts. His combat style was more refined, more precise.
The rest of the Yeti corpses, after he had absorbed the specific skills he wanted, went to increase his Ice Affinity. He watched as the percentage jumped from 0.1% to 0.25% after absorbing hundreds of corpses.
Klaus felt a bead of sweat trickle down his temple.
He noticed how exponentially difficult it was becoming to increase his affinity, even though he hadn’t even reached 1%. The initial gains were rapid, but now each hundred Yetis only gave a small fraction of a percentage.
Well, at least now at 0.25% he could theoretically create some D-ranked ice skills, given his increased affinity, although he didn’t need to right now since he already possessed much stronger, higher-ranked skills.
The previous pattern repeated itself. More and more waves of Yeti attacks occurred, each one larger and more aggressive than the last.
The Yetis were clearly enraged, sending their best warriors. The latest wave even included a thousand Yetis, a truly overwhelming number that would have crushed any ordinary hunter party.
The latest wave was resisted by Klaus seamlessly
He managed this only because he was packed with stamina and mana potions he had brought, which he consumed regularly.
Klaus also strategically switched his primary offense from Stellar Sword Descent to his ice-based skills and physical attacks, as the mana cost of Stellar Sword Descent was still draining him too quickly for sustained, large-scale combat.
So, Klaus had switched to using Blood Lure (E) to draw in groups,
along with Apex Velocity (A) for unparalleled mobility and evasion,
and Haunt (B) to disorient and slow his enemies.
His Lost Echo dagger, imbued with ice mana did the rest of the job.
The main form of attacks from the Yetis was their Ice Arrows at a long distance, which were easily dodged by Klaus, who moved like a shadow across the icy battlefield.
On coming close, the Yetis used their sharp claws and Freezing Roar to fight.
Some even tried to unleash their Frost Breaths, but it was used less since Klaus could easily get out of the area of impact of the skill with his speed.
Normally, Yetis were used to swarming hunters, relying on their numbers and using their Freezing Roar to get a hold of the enemy and then overwhelm them.
But due to Klaus’s Ice Resistance increasing constantly with each absorption, he was almost immune to their cold-based attacks, even if they managed to hit him.
Apex Velocity had proven to be an absolute game changer for him, the effortless ness of the battle came from this skill that made him dodge nay attack with prcision and grace.
He still had a trump card like Dragon’s Might, which he could use at least a single time in a day for an emergency, but he hadn’t needed it yet.
Soon, the massacre finally stopped. The battlefield was littered with Yeti corpses, and the remaining few, terrified beyond measure, fled back into the depths of the dungeon. Klaus let the last injured Yeti escape, ensuring the tale of his brutal slaughter would rattle other yeti’s especially the yeti boss. since the normal ones won’t give him any thing use full.
He returned to his makeshift throne, which was now almost indigo with Yeti blood smeared on it. He sat on the throne, Lost Echo still firm in his hands, as he panted due to sheer exhaustion. His body ached due to the after effects of such prolonged battles.
Earlier, during the intense fight, he had ignored some of the rapid-fire notifications from the system. Now, he brought up the logs.

Klaus noticed that initially, the increase of 0.01% per absorption had stopped when he had already killed approximately 150 to 160 A-ranked Yeti kills.
After that specific point, his Ice Affinity did not increase further from absorbing more Yetis of that rank, indicating that he needed to change the rank or type of monster he was fighting to continue progressing that specific affinity.
He had reached a saturation point for A-ranked Yetis.
Klaus then gulped down a stamina potion from his inventory, feeling the surge of energy, and chugged down a few bottles of water to rehydrate.
Earlier, his speed had been so immense that a bit of Yeti blood had splattered onto his face, and some even touched his lips. The metallic taste of the blood, combined with the cold, made him remember a few distant yet painful memories from Earth, flashes of violence and desperation from his past life that he usually kept buried.
