Chapter 28: Decision

Noa felt and saw every emotion Galio was feeling right now.

Awe. Surprise. Curiosity... And fear.

But after listening to him, he also experienced some of them. ’Heralds of Calamity?’ he muttered under his breath, realizing the gravity of the situation.

Still, it didn’t change the fact that he didn’t want to give up his new companion.

His instincts were one thing.

The drive to make good content out of it was a part of it as well.

However, something more primal had materialized in his heart that didn’t allow him to be swayed by his fear.

Viewer_5: That’s one cheeky Pokémon.

Need2Pee: Calamity? That chubby thing? There is no way.

Viewer_22: That was predictable lore development ngl. But seeing a streamer at the center of it is fun at least.

For once, Noa had no time to deal with or speak to his viewers.

His heart throbbed with unease. The options were endless, but each one he could take told him that this action would have consequences.

The system remained silent the whole time, leaving everything up to him as if it weren’t its fault to begin with.

Noa knew Galio’s fear wasn’t unfounded.

If what the priest said was true, the little fiend might doom the entire planet.

The most logical part of him was ready to do whatever Galio would come up with. Why? Because now he also lived in this world and didn’t want it to be destroyed.

But there was a less logical part of his reasoning that told him not to give a shit about the speculations.

What the future held was beyond his comprehension.

So instead of doing what was right, Noa wanted to do what felt right for him to do.

"I am not handing it over," he said flatly, his voice carrying full conviction. The dragon, however, didn’t know what was going on and silently observed Noa with an innocent gaze.

Galio’s lips parted for a moment. "You don’t understand..."

Noa was quick to retort. "I don’t need to. If it somehow ended up in my hands, it means it was meant to be."

The priest’s forehead twitched. Then his fingers flickered, as if he wanted to end the problem before it even grew. Yet he didn’t move. He wasn’t sure. Not anymore.

If it were anyone else besides Noa, Galio would have acted right away.

No questions, answers, or time would be given, and every thread would be neutralized right away.

However, not only did this outsider find his hidden village and use every low-level relic without breaking a sweat, he also summoned an ancient creature somehow.

This caused him to hesitate, to question the readings.

Nothing was certain in this world—especially after the calamity had ended.

But why would fate or whatever was controlling the universe put something so dangerous in Noa’s hands?

There had to be reasons. And he, despite the life he led, was unable to guess.

Noa, greedy bastard that he was, didn’t miss the opportunity and created a simple poll, curious to see the viewers’ take on the situation.

’Should Galio kill the threat to protect the world, or should he let uncertainty run free?’

As the chat exploded in discussions about the moral dilemma, and mentioned famous philosophical questions such as the trolley problem and Schrödinger’s cat, Noa observed the priest closely.

The decision Galio would make would, without a doubt, affect Noa’s future in this world.

Not only his streaming career but also his life was at stake.

The man looked away.

His gaze drifted beyond the windows, studying the wild beauty of the nature surrounding the house. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"If I kill it now," he started, his voice grim. "I save us from all that might come. But if I let it live... it might hunt us. But even then—" his eyes landed back on Noa. "I see no malice, no dread, and no death from it."

Noa didn’t celebrate. Not yet.

He narrowed his eyes and looked at the dragon.

The creature had no name yet, and, ignorant of the situation, it was nibbling on Noa’s sleeve like it was the most delicious thing in the world.

It was adorable, innocent even.

At that moment, the results of the poll were out.

[Poll ended: 62% voted to let the dragon live]

"Wow," Noa exclaimed, fighting the urge to clap. "I didn’t expect you guys to have hearts. And here I thought you would vote against the dragon."

Viewer_1: Nah... We love Pokémon.

Spidey: Everything for our King of Losers. (Am I the only one who thinks it’s a tacky moniker?)

gothlover: I am more concerned about the 38% who wanted to kill it. What a bunch of cold-blooded bastards. Mods, can you ban them all?

Noa smirked faintly.

He liked the fact that the majority of his viewers were on his side.

[Current viewers: 112]

Still, his eyes stayed on the man before him, waiting for his final decision. "Old man, it’s about time you chose your stance. Because I have already made up my mind."

Galio drew a deep breath, not surprised.

His hesitation hung heavy, pressing on his back. He couldn’t back away, nor could he force himself to attack.

Finally, the man lowered his hand.

The pressure he had been exuding this entire time faded, his robes shifting.

"...So be it," he said at last.

Keeping his grin sharp and his expression unchanged, Noa exhaled softly, not showing his true emotions. He had been a normal human his entire life.

Being this close to death was new to him, and where the courage came from, even he had no idea.

’Is this how streamers feel? Is it some kind of superpower? Or did my balls turn into steel?’ he lamented to himself, unsure what gave him the balls to be this bold.

Galio, however, wasn’t finished. "Don’t mistake my restraints for trust, outsider. The uncertainty gnaws at me, and if one day I see the creature’s true nature, I won’t hesitate again."

With that, the priest left the room, signaling for Noa to follow him.

But before Noa took even a single step, the familiar system message announced something completely unexpected.
