District 42-Chapter 110: Traitor
Casper left the place where he was surrounded by Ridires. He seemed pretty calm when dealing with Freygar, but the truth was that he was on the verge of opening that door and start a fight with him.
When they crossed, all he wanted was to turn around again and knock him out, or that the Aesir lost control to give him a reason to start something.
However, that was not the time yet, just as it wasn’t in the infirmary from the upper levels of the Third Lab, nor in the path to the interrogation room. The time when they would solve their differences was still to come.
Casper knew that it would be more beneficial to just brush it off and run for it, leading the prisoners to the outside. And Freygar also was aware of his opportunity to stop them if he waited for the White warrior to initiate that maneuver.
This way, both controlled themselves, and waited for the right time, even though it was hard.
Freygar turned to Casper, who was running through the corridor.
"Wait for me, man. When your prisoners start to move, and my troops not surrounded anymore, that will be your end for sure." He clenched his fists, frowning hard behind the mask.
Casper didn’t have time to think much about that matter. He had concluded everything beforehand. At that moment, he must focus on his main goal. The fight with Freygar was just a personal desire.
"I will need to move on to the group where Ragnar is. We need to make all the groups move at the same time and gather as soon as possible. What Freygar wants is to get us separated, since he is aware of how numerous our troops are." He, then, moved to the group located in the east. He had let Ragnar stay there with another part of the prisoners.
That man had telepathic abilities. It was crucial for the communication among them. He could talk into their minds, making it easier to pass the messages, but he also could control some specific people. That was how he could play with the prisoners in that battle at the canteen as if they were puppets.
It was a powerful skill and something that Casper found a lot of different utilities. Because of it, Ragnar was an important piece, that he could not afford to lose, since he was basically the eyes and ears of the group.
Casper made it until the east side. They weren’t inside the courtyards. The soldier ordered them to move to a part of the east farther away from them.
When he arrived running, all the prisoners from that group got surprised. They had a mix of different feelings. First, excitement, because they finally were seeing the person who guided them until that point, and that gave the opportunity for them to pursue their freedom. However, they were also confused, and quite angry that Casper didn’t show up until now and started to give illogical orders a while ago.
"Hey, Casper!" Someone passed between the crowd of prisoners, stepping in front of everyone. He was with his bothered behavior and expression as always but seemed more energetically when he saw the White warrior.
"Ragnar, I am here to talk with you. Can you still use your ability?" Casper was the more straightforward he could. He wasn’t willing to lose time there.
Probably, Freygar was trying to find a way to spot the movements of the groups to be able to know when he could start his chasing. The soldier wanted to begin to act before the Aesir could do it.
"Yes, I can. Just talk doesn’t wear me out so much. But control people always kill me." Explained, quickly.
Casper nodded, satisfied. As long as he could do this much, it would be ok.
"Say to each leader of the other 3 groups that we will start to move forward towards the north. The group in the north will need to maintain a constant pace, but slow. The important thing here is that all the groups can get together as soon as possible. Got it?"
Without answering, Ragnar closed his eyes and concentrated. His breath stopped, the body didn’t move an inch, one could feel the pressure in the air around him.
It took some minutes for him to finally finish his job.
"It’s done. Sorry for the wait. I was clear when I said the priorities: get together soon, move towards the north. Is it alright?"
Casper gave a thumbs up for him, then jogged in the corridor.
"What are you guys waiting for? You need to do it as well! We can’t be here any longer." After this, all that huge group of prisoners followed him through those corridors.
"Now, we can’t wait anymore. Halden isn’t 100% dominated, but we already opened a good way. Also, with Freygar chasing after us, it will be even more difficult. Maybe some people can die in the process, but there is nothing we can do to help it." Casper gritted his teeth. He was expecting that something could go wrong in his plan, but not that it would be so bad. Of all people to appear, the Aesir was the worst one.
"The good thing is that they will need quite a lot of time to be able to chase after our groups. They don’t know our exact location, nor the way we will take through these corridors. The Security System is under my control, and they can’t even communicate properly..." Then, an idea popped up in his mind.
"Hey, Ragnar, what kind of project you are into?" He asked, suddenly, just when he realized something about the Ridires.
"Mimir." He answered. "But I am incomplete. Telepathy is just one of the... Casper?" The soldier’s face darkened, and he did not ask anything more, just kept jogging.
Ragnar wondered if Casper had something against that experiment. He had no clue at all. In the end, he let him be and did not question that behavior.
"We need to increase the pace!" The White warrior ordered all of a sudden while he ran faster than before.
The prisoners followed him, each time more confused by Casper’s sudden decisions that seemed to come out of nowhere.
"Ragnar, tell the same to the other groups, except the north’s group." The tattoed man nodded and tried his best to do it while running.
He took this time several minutes to finish it, Casper noticed that it was too exhaustive for him when he used his ability at the same time as doing another activity. It was quite complex for the soldier to understand completely how these quirks worked, and until at that point, he wasn’t entirely acquainted with every single one that the prisoners had.
As far as they told him, Halden had a total of 473 failures, that is, people who could not use any quirk and had harmful consequences forever in their bodies, just like Olaf. 36 prisoners had partial skills, like Ragnar. And just 3 were the successful experiments, like Anton, Alfar, and that giant who Casper fought.
The number of prisoners who could at least survive those experiments had increased just two years ago, and the successful ones appeared just a half year ago. Halden had the worst dark times before.
When Ragnar finally ended his job, even though he was running with certain difficulty because of his dizziness, he went beside Casper.
"I finished it, but... why you are in a hurry all of a sudden?" He asked, out of breath.
The White warrior took some time to answer, pondering if it was worth telling Ragnar about that issue, but he concluded that it would do some good. Maybe that tattoed guy could help him to catch the person he was aiming for now.
"We have a traitor among us, and he is messing up with things for some while now that I think about it... And it has to be someone that is in touch with the Ridires for a long time..."
...
Freygar nodded, satisfied with the new report he received from his infiltrate bird. That guy always has been useful since he changed all of a sudden after his experiment. People had some difficulty trusting him and all, but the Aesir had no problems in deal with him, and he helped the other Ridires from Halden in some actions before.
He hated to resort to the help of opportunists but he had a mission to accomplish. He could not let a single prisoner run away, and particularly Casper was his main aim. He was not the type of guy to pursue his goals no matter what he needed to do, but it wasn’t like the help of a person like that was harmful to innocent people or something, so he didn’t care at all.
Anyway, now he had an idea of what Casper and the other fugitives were doing, and he could start his chase.
"Hey, everyone! Follow me." He picked his pistol and walked away with his warriors behind him.
