District 42-Chapter 308: Jumping through floors... again
Casper didn’t know where to start upon seeing what happened in that place. He could only think in the worst-case scenario.
’I arrived here too late. There are no more hints of battle, nor anything like this. It seems that it ended a long while ago. I wonder where they went...’
The White warrior tried to use the Teleporting pads around, but none of them were working properly. After trying three different ones, he concluded that his biggest worry was true.
’So, what I and Adam talked about became reality, in the end. They messed with the only connection between the Castle’s floors. Most likely, everyone is stuck on a different floor. I need to find them somehow, but how can I do it?’
The White warrior walked through that floor feeling somewhat lost. He was used to seeing the post scenario of a battlefield, so he didn’t get disturbed by that sight. He just tried to breathe with his mouth and look forward, never to the ground; this way, the situation was bearable.
He maintained his focus. At any time, an enemy could appear, so he should keep on the alert for anything that could come. However, the silence of that place showed that no one was there anymore, which helped to make him less tense.
Past the mansion of the Royal Family, Casper saw something that got him confused. That situation was getting more and more inconceivable. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Man... Why the hell is this Healing Center here!?" He asked himself out loud.
Casper ran towards that building, entering there and looking around. He faced a healer right away, who was holding a knife and trembling. Once he saw the White warrior entering there, he pointed his knife to him and nearly fell to the ground out of despair.
"Hey, hey! Calm down! I am not here to harm you, ok?" Casper took out his black mask, showing to him his face. Since he was quite famous around the Castle, that healer should know him.
Upon seeing Casper’s unmasked face, the healer lowered his knife. He was holding his breath until now, so he afforded himself to breathe properly.
Casper approached him slowly, crouching beside him and asking a question.
"What the hell happened here?" He had serious eyes while talking slowly with that man.
The Healer seemed confused for a while, pondering about what he should say to Casper.
"We were on one of the cities... that one where you made a hole on the ceiling, you know? Well, they started to attack us. And that Vanir... that Vanir was going to kill us with his gas, so Canute teleported the entire building and..."
"Hey, man, slow down for a bit. What the hell is a Vanir? And how that loser that you address as Canute could do such a big feat?"
The healer tried to explain to Casper again, but his mind was too confused to bring something coherent to say. He didn’t have any idea of how he should start to say the whole story.
"Ok, ok, shut up now." After hearing the annoyed reply of Casper, the man got quiet in instants. "Good. Now, just answer me this simple question: how can I travel through this place without the Teleporting Pads?"
The healer began to calm down himself, breathing in and out slowly. It was difficult for him to get out of that state, and Casper could comprehend it, but he needed to do things fast if he wanted to save the others.
"The only way I know is to ask Canute for a portal. He is the only one who can do such a thing. Aside from this, just the Teleporting Pads can help you to do it... Ah! That’s right! There was this Jomurgand that was attacking the Castle before, and it made a huge hole on the ground just some meters far away from here, north direction. You can try to use this hole to go to other floors. But it’s too high."
Casper smiled at him, getting satisfied with the response.
"Don’t worry, these boots I am wearing will help me not to break my legs. I will make whatever I can to evacuate all this Castle as fast as possible."
The healer nodded to him, trusting Casper. After all, he didn’t have anyone to trust anymore. The White warrior was the only spark of hope that appeared during that time in the middle of the battlefield.
"Please, take care of the people inside here. I will be quick. See you later."
Casper began to run out of the hospital, going to the north.
It wasn’t difficult to find that hole. It was quite big. Casper barely could believe that a serpent could be so big.
’I don’t know much about the nordic mythology, to be honest. But there is no way that I didn’t hear about Jomurgand. I wonder how big it really is, and how much destruction it could cause wherever it went... Anyway, maybe one day I will see this robot. For now, I must focus!’
Casper walked to the edge of the hole, looking down there. It was just too deep to see the other side, just like in the previous time when Casper made a hole on the ground to get out of the Third lab.
’This brings back memories, for sure. I wonder if these boots will make the job well, but I don’t have any other means to go down there, and wait for the arrival of the other Aesirs, or then to the Teleporting pads to be fixed isn’t an option. I need to go do it myself.’
Taking a deep breath, Casper walked closer and closer to the edge. One of his feet got out of the ground, then half of the other. He waited until his mind became used to the height.
’I never was scared of heights, but, c’mon, that’s another level.’
In an impetus of courage, Casper let himself fall straight inside the hole.
