District 42-Chapter 328: Raise your heads
The group waited for some time to start another topic. Overall, they kept talking about how things went while in the Castle, and also informing MMA about the state of the other members of the group.
MMA showed a great amount of knowledge when dealing with medicine. He could even help Rurik to find a way out for Brenna’s state and to recover Ivar even more. However, he himself needed to admit that the Fenrir passed for such serious harm that was impossible to heal completely. Not for now.
The report lasted for long. They stayed there for hours conversing. Casper also needed to give his part about his brief staying at the base of the Frelsi. He prevented himself to talk much, though. There was some information that he couldn’t spit out in order to maintain his good image among the Aesirs.
After all, even though he could try to persuade them right there by talking about the convictions and motivations of the Frelsis, they wouldn’t hear him, and could even accuse him of betraying them.
Their folk got severely harmed or killed. Their warriors were slaughtered and needed to fight for their lives. Their home was thoroughly destroyed and dominated as well. With all of that happening at once, there was no way that they would ever sympathize with the Frelsis. It wasn’t a subject that he could go any further.
Nevertheless, he made sure to talk with them about their plan to get Gungnir. The Aesirs seemed to be aware of what was that key. It made them more concerned about that situation. If they could find a way out and use the key without the need of getting Casper with them, that battle would be lost already.
The Princess commented a little bit about what happened inside the palace before she passed out. Her narration wasn’t something good to hear, nobody on that tent wanted to imagine how much of a hard time she passed there. It was needed, though.
It came to a point when everyone needed to just lower their heads and think for a little while. Some sighs and comments were made, but at that time they were feeling awkward to say something. That loss hit their pride and their sense of duty deeply. A wound that surely would let scars.
MMA stood up from the bed that he sat.
"It’s time to work again. It’s getting late and I don’t want that things get worse here. We have a lot to work on, after all. I heard about the many problems that the support base is going through. I will do my best to manage you all if that’s how you want it."
Nobody seemed to dislike his proposal. Actually, they were glad that the Boss was going to help them. They knew that he was a smart and organized guy to the extreme. An exceptional mind like his would be needed when trying to pull through those first harsh days.
"Well, I agree with it. I will come back to the tents where the people are being taken care of. I need to check up on the healers and I couldn’t do it for a while since I was helping in both the management and in the aid. Now I will focus completely on it." Rurik suggested. He was already standing on his feet, just needing to put on his coat and go to work.
"Well, I will keep trying to help as I can in the administration of supplies, workers, and so on. Will you help me with it, boss? I have a lot of people that are refusing to negotiate with us, and the number of resources that they are offering is too low and the price is very high. I think they are trying to make us fall indirectly. I have the suspicion that some of them are Frelsi, even."
MMA nodded his head to Freygar.
"Don’t worry. We will talk about it soon. Let’s just see what is a priority here and what is not."
Since the others were so harmed, they would need to stay there being treated, anyways. The wait for better resources was lowering the process of their treatment, but there wasn’t any other way around now. They would need to go at that pace for the time being.
"I just want to clarify something for you all since everyone is here. I know that we will be split all the time from now on, so I wanted to say everything now."
He closed his eyes for a moment, thinking about how to put his thoughts together and say the right thing.
"Listen, I know that we never passed by it and that now we seem to be taking the leftovers and going to live with it for a good while. But that’s not it. We will come back again, ok? Soon, we will take it back. It won’t last too much. We will bring hope to the hearts of those who don’t have hope anymore, just like we always did in the past.
"Our bodies now are destroyed, our will is gone, our minds are shattered... we seem to be broken and forgotten gods. However, believe in me that I know that our comeback will be incredible. We will take revenge for sure. We will make it two times as better as before. We will be stronger than ever. Our glory days will be back soon.
"So, please, stop looking to the ground, everyone. Raise your heads like a confident and proud god. I want to see that gleam of determination inside your eyes again. Our toughest fight from now on won’t be against the Frelsis, but against ourselves, because we are the only ones that can heal the inner wounds that they opened on us. And once we can do it, these people around us will heal slowly as well. Never forget that you all are a symbol, and a symbol can’t be broken forever, or else people will stay broken together with it."
Even after he finished his statement, nobody was capable to raise their heads and look forward. They couldn’t bring themselves to do so.
However, he left that tent satisfied, because, inside their eyes, that gleam appeared again. A weak gleam, but that meant that they weren’t completely dead inside.
