Chapter 337: Blind... more or less

After Casper saw that display of the rehabilitation routine of Ivar, MMA approached him, prompting the guy to enter the circle.

"Hey, Ivar. That was incredible, as always." MMA complimented him, even though his voice wasn’t of someone who was doing so. It was quite strange that the genius scientist always used the same tone of voice for everything that he wanted to express.

Casper was getting used to this kind of thing. After all, it seemed to be a trace of his personality that wouldn’t change so soon. Nothing was helping it.

"Yup, I can agree with that." The soldier said, walking slightly behind MMA and smiling at Ivar.

At first, he found that guy strange. The first time they met when in his first mission as a Sgail, Casper thought that Ivar just wanted to fight and didn’t think about anything else.

However, he turned to be one hell of a guy in all aspects.

His addiction to fight was always there, but much more about him could be discovered, like his self-sacrificing behavior. He was ready to give his body to save the people who were still inside the city at that time.

Even after he finished his fight, the man just woke up willing to fight again, as far as Casper heard from the healers that took care of him.

’He is someone who lost his vision, a great part of his hearing, and even a bit of his tact. For him to have this will to continue improving and even adapt himself to his new handicap, this guy must be more amazing than I could have ever imagined before, really.’

Ivar looked at them with a grin on his face, which was thoroughly bandaged.

Casper found it a pity because he was curious to see what he had behind his mask.

Ivar’s mask got completely destroyed after the battle against Tein. Since they could just fix his mask while inside the Castle, he would need to stay without one until they could recover their home once and for all.

The Fenrir was probably suffering because of the lack of a mask on his face. The punishment never stopped to run until someone put the mask on again, after all. Nonetheless, even with this pain, he learned how to bear it for the time being.

"Hey, you two! You saw when I kicked the ass of those guys?" He said, laughing.

The other Ridires didn’t get demotivated or angry at him but laughed instead. Everyone was used to Ivar’s personality, and they knew their places.

"Yes, we saw it. That’s why we are complimenting you." MMA explained.

He stretched his hand to him, waiting for a handshake.

Ivar, though, just kept his hands on his hips, still with that grin on his face.

They both stayed in the same position for quite a while, which became comic after some seconds.

Casper was struggling to hold his laughter.

"Sooo... What’s up?" Ivar asked, finding the silence awkward.

"You idiot. Can’t you see that I am offering a handshake?"

"Are you?"

"You inferior life-form... how can you dodge punches and kicks this swiftly and easily, but can’t notice that I am offering you a handshake?" The cold and indifferent way MMA said those things made it get even funnier.

Casper and the Ridires couldn’t hold on anymore and began to laugh nonstop.

"What do you mean? I don’t have any special ability or anything. I can just recognize when a fist is piercing the air and discern from where it is coming and what point the person want to attack, so it gets easy to avoid. People do too much noise when stepping on the ground and moving their bodies."

MMA shook his head as if talking with the most helpless being in the world.

"You just learned how to have this kind of cognition when fighting, right?"

"Yes! Of course! And for what else could I use this kind of thing?" Ivar shrugged.

"Sigh... Anyway, where is Canute? He is the next guy that I need to see."

"I don’t know, man. I don’t see anymore, remember?"

Clicking his tongue, MMA just left that inferior life-form behind.

Even after Casper and MMA got several meters away from him, Ivar remained talking to nobody and the Ridires enjoyed that time to laugh at him.

"Well, you don’t seem to know where Canute is, right? What will you do now?"

"Never mind that. I don’t know the exact place, but I have an idea, don’t worry."

They walked beside each other for quite a while until they got into an individual tent settled in the support base.

It was quite rare to see individual tents like the princess’ there because it occupied too much space for just a single person to be in. Also, it was kind of unfair, even if the person had a high position in the hierarchy of the Castle.

They entered that tent without warning. MMA didn’t seem to be someone too polite regarding the Aesirs.

Inside that tent, Casper was expecting again to see the debilitated Canute from before, with his body and face wrapped in bandages just like Ivar, and still having his treatment.

However, what he saw there was slightly different from that.

Canute was indeed in a bed, with several tubes injecting medicine in his body. Nevertheless, around him was an entire setup of computers, strange machines, energy sources, and notebooks with several notes and reminders on them.

The man had his eyes slightly red, which indicated that he was working for a long time.

While he typed with his left hand incredibly fast on two different holographic keyboards, he also wrote with his right hand on several notebooks, distributing different types of information in each one.

It was amazing that someone who was so harmed and had a concussion on his head could work so fast and so organized.

Casper looked to MMA, who seemed to be surprised himself for what he was seeing.

"Neither you expected such a thing, right?"

"Actually, I thought that he would be sleeping." He rubbed his hair.
