Chapter 345: A war that will never end

Casper watched Camilla walking away silently.

He was split between running after her or just going to the Support base and telling the others about what happened, and so anticipating their enemies’ moves.

However, incapable to decide something right now, he just kept at the same place while her back got smaller and smaller as she vanished in the horizon.

The soldier felt the need to kneel on the ground and catch up his breath. He didn’t know that he was holding it until that point. Maybe it was just a natural reaction for him not to let his emotions get the better of him. After all, any wrong movement he made or word said would be used against him.

That was how Camilla seemed to work as far as he understood until that point.

’I really need to make this decision right now? I know exactly what I need to do, but I didn’t have any idea that the deadline would be so short. C’mon..."

Casper was aware of both Jarls and Frelsis’ intentions long ago. He talked with Vick and the Aesirs, also as Camilla and Javir. They told him how they viewed that situation from their perspective.

With all of that information gathered, Casper concluded what he would do when the right time came. For now, he just needed to reconquer the Castle and retrieve Gungnir. If they could do as such, he would start his own movements in order to end that war completely.

However, when so many people were on the line already, he didn’t know what to do. That event made him think better about his actions, and maybe his plan was way too slow to be reasonable in that situation.

Anyway, there was just only one chance and one way to get it done. There was just one thing that he could think of all this time, and it wasn’t the smartest, efficient, or safer plan, but it was everything he got to help that district.

"But all of this is just pointless right now! It’s not just about the lives of the Aesirs, the Ridires, Jarls, or Vick. A lot of innocent people just trying to get their freedom back will die while doing so. There are no winners in this war, just more and more blood dirtying the hands of the ones who choose to participate in it!" He shouted, frustrated.

"After so much reasoning, I finally concluded that this is not a war that will end. Someone will always be born in the middle of the commoners and ask himself why he can’t decide his own things and is destined to live in poverty. But there will always be remainings of the tradition of District 42 on the minds of the folk, so it won’t be completely gone as well. This war will keep going until the last person standing dies!" 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

The soldier couldn’t take that anymore. After getting to that conclusion, he maintained that realization just to himself, consuming him inside out as if it was a parasite. He was getting more and more sick every day.

"It isn’t just nonsense at all. Anyone could come to this same conclusion, so why do they keep fighting like idiots!? What’s the point of keep going on this war because of pride or ideals when it will kill everyone you love? Cursed be the time when I let anyone in this place get closer to me because now I can’t just let go of them and let them be! I feel the need to help everyone I treasure here, even if it’s just one person."

The soldier slammed his fists on the ground several times.

"All of that... is happening again. Just like in that time, I feel like I won’t be able to do anything and the people I love will die in front of me! This mission... This mission can really be completed at all? Can I do something to change it?"

Casper’s nails hurt the palm of his hands, such was the strength that he was exerting on his clenched fists.

’What do I do?’

The soldier stayed in that place for a long time before he got up and ran to the Support base to warn MMA about the encounter that he had and the possible attack that they could suffer.

While he was running there, dark clouds began to cover the sky, and soon raindrops were falling everywhere. The rain was getting heavier each second more. That storm came too fast for him to notice something.

’I need to warn them about what is happening. Otherwise, we won’t be able to resist!’

He got into MMA’s tent just after half an hour of running. Most of this time was spent trying to get into the Support base.

"MMA!" Casper shouted, entering the tent without warning.

The man, of course, was working. He was always working. Casper didn’t remember a single time when he wasn’t trying to do something productive. People gossiped a lot about how he could pass even an entire month without sleeping, but that should be surely impossible.

"What’s it, Casper?"

"We need to move right now! No matter if it is raining or if everyone is in the middle of their work. If we don’t do it, we might get attacked by a whole troop of Frelsis!"

MMA’s expression didn’t change, but he nodded his head.

"Ok, I will contact the others and we will start it right now? Be sure to warn Rurik and Freygar as well, they will help to take care of it."

Casper nodded, turning to go out of the tent as fast as possible. However, he felt a strong headache, which made him stop in the middle.

His body was shivering all over, but not for feeling cold. He was feeling too hot, actually. His brain seemed to be pulsing inside his head and he couldn’t control his thoughts properly. Casper’s heart was throbbing in the chest as if he was about to get hit by something dangerous. He would feel with delight the adrenaline running in his blood.

"Casper?" MMA called, worried.

Nonetheless, the White warrior didn’t hear. He was too focused on enjoying that feeling.

’That’s not enough.’ The thought passed on his mind like a flash, and then he remembered how he felt when he took Berserker for the first time.
