District 42-Chapter 357: Before the masks part 3
That’s a tale of a man who tried to conquer everything. A greedy man disguised as a genius. An angel with the heart of a demon. Someone that was completely prepared for the world, but the world wasn’t prepared for him.
Nobody could oppose his will and just had to lower their heads in acknowledgment. They couldn’t fight nor struggle against his sovereignty.
He was the first king that ever got to win a war without fighting. The most wealthier, without working too much. The only person that could discover the secrets of that world and find something that others would never be able to comprehend.
He changed the world as he pleased. By will, he could break mountains. With a single order, entire kingdoms could get destroyed. His fury wiped out countries. His greed consumed continents.
There was no living being who could match him.
Not even himself.
Baldur was aware that his power would destroy him one day. It wouldn’t last too much time until came the day when he would need to lower his head and surrender to his own achievements. He himself didn’t know how such a thing could happen to him, but soon enough it would.
Maybe that was the only thing that Baldur wouldn’t know until the last day of his life.
The greediest king of the world was capable to conquer all his continent. His crusade lasted an entire month. That alone was already incredible.
Generally, crusades made to conquer other lands lasted more than a couple of months. It could last years. Their objectives weren’t small ones. They weren’t aiming just to threaten the other countries and kingdoms. They weren’t aiming for diplomacy, religious dissemination, or then attack small folks. That crusade had as a goal take the whole continent.
Again, the king was doubted, people protested against him, rebelled, conspired... But he made it, and everyone needed to take back their words and acknowledge him like in the previous time.
After the Great Crusade, which would get marked in history until District 42 vanished all the information about that time, the king made another bold move.
He began to fight overseas against the biggest marine powers of the world.
People said that he was crazy.
They were sure that the kingdom didn’t have enough power, nor skillful seamen, to win against their opponents.
The seas were a harsh place to travel and to survive, let alone fight.
They protested, conspired, rebelled... But the king made it again! All the seas were under their control in just three months. Once again, they needed to take back their words and kneel for the mercy of that imponent figure whose words always became truth.
When the king stated that he would be the first emperor of that whole world, no one could discredit him again. People stopped to go against his words and just remained silent while watching as his mouth predicted every single thing that would happen.
People couldn’t know at all when that King would be mistaken in one of his gambles. In truth, they didn’t even know if he was gambling or saying the actual truth all the time.
Whether he was a good gambler or a blessed oracle, no one would ever know. But one thing was for sure: the unstoppable king was throwing himself into that harsh situation with no hesitation. Nobody would be able to prevent him to do so.
It wasn’t a surprise when the faraway lands, separated from them by thousands of kilometers of sea, would start to get stained with Baldur’s marks and his words would begin to decide the destiny of those that he targeted.
One month to conquer his continent. Three months to conquer the seas. And exactly eight months to conquer the world.
No man alive would be capable to do something like that again.
Nobody could ever believe when the king raised his fist to the skies and said that he was the emperor of that new world.
People found it ironic that now they couldn’t refute him, nor say that he was crazy, nor conspire, nor rebel, anything... They could only look at his figure while knowing that everything he said was true, they didn’t have a choice instead of acknowledging him.
By far, the most famous thing about that feat was what made people so confused about the King’s personality. They couldn’t deny that he was a demon but weren’t sure if an angel wasn’t fit for him as well.
The King could conquer all the world, but what was so impressive in this feat was that he forced the kingdoms to surrender. He barely needed to use force. That’s why no other man would ever do what he did. Nobody would be able to cross a country and dominate all their lands without needing a single drop of blood for this.
Until nowadays, nobody could ever know how he did it. The registers of his feats are quite divergent from each other, which makes it difficult to know what is true.
It seemed just like magic, after all. As if he could take control of any man that appeared in front of him.
Nonetheless, even the greatest ones need their time to be gone.
Baldur wasn’t different. He wasn’t completely untouchable. He was just a human, after all, although he was given the name of a god.
The end of his sovereignty was quite tragic.
Not just in an empire, but at any type of political model, rebels would exist. Humans had divergent ideas, after all.
That was the same in Baldur’s case.
After twenty years of world-dominating, the emperor got assassinated. An emperor that didn’t have children, nor wife, nor anyone whom he could pass his legacy. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
After this, another war happened in all the world.
When people don’t have someone to pass all the lands that he conquered, it surely would become a huge mess.
Not even the wealthier and most powerful people could prevent what was going to happen.
It was called The Great Territorial War.
A conflict between all the world’s population, which people began to fight like animals for territory.
The world was quite well-developed at that time. Baldur made sure to improve its technology as much as he could. Indigo Energy was manipulated to some extent.
It caused the war to be much more destructive.
At that time, the world lived a true Ragnarok.
