District 42-Chapter 90: Planning the Rescue
As Alfar said so, both Anton and Olaf seemed to have their morale lifted up. Particularly Anton... The middle-aged man for a brief moment looked like he was the gladdest one among the three.
The Dark elf couldn’t afford that his unique chance to unite everyone there and give the freedom they deserved slipped from his hands. He needed to do what he could, not just wait that Casper would solve everything.
Until now, they were depending on Casper’s judgments and actions to keep moving forward, and it was not the right thing to do. They must learn how to move alone even with their limitations.
"We will meet at the canteen, in the lunchtime that’s about to come. When there, we will discuss better what will be the plan, exactly."
"But, what about the guards. They already know that you, Anton, and Casper are involved in the last conflict between the factions. They surely will keep an eye on you two, particularly." Olaf pointed.
Alfar got pensive. That was something they should watch out for. They couldn’t expect that the Ridires would turn a blind eye for them. After all, they were being the most affected ones in all that situation with the war of the factions. The Ridires were clearly trying their best to prevent the prisoners to go crazy again.
"What’s the matter? Anton thinks that Olaf could take care of it, right?"
"W-well, I can... I am just worried because my parents are finding it quite strange. I am spending more money than I would in a normal month. Besides, my money is not infinite. I have a monthly income that they give to me." The man explained, looking worried to both of them while fidgeting his fingers.
"Don’t worry about it, Anton supposes that it’s okay for now. Anton doesn’t think that Casper will be using your influence again. As far as Anton knows, he has the plan all settled up. We just need to prevent him to lose the only thing that makes him useful."
Alfar looked back and forth to Olaf and Anton. He was not sure if Casper had prepared everything. In the paper he gave to him, Alfar could interpret that there were some things that he still needed to do, and they as well. It was a risky move to lose Olaf’s influence, particularly for something so trivial like that.
"That’s not something worth spending Olaf’s skills. We have other ways to overcome this specific problem. It will be difficult, but I think it’s better to prevent losing our resources..." As soon as he started to explain, Anton interrupted him.
"Either way, we will need to find a way to freely walk in the corridors and reach the place where Casper is now. If Olaf can make the Ridires pretend to ignore us, or cover us, we will be killing two birds with one stone, don’t you think?"
The Dark elf started to look at Anton’s face intently, frowning behind the mask. He was feeling... uneasy. However, the arguments that Anton had weren’t coming out of nowhere, he was being very logical there. Besides, that man knew Casper for more time than the rest, so they couldn’t completely discredit him when he said that the White warrior had the plan prepared already.
"Ok, let’s do how you are saying, then."
"Sure. Anton has something in mind, he will talk with you two later for more details. But be aware that we need to make our movements today if we want him to be safe."
"Ok, after lunchtime I will talk with my contacts."
After this, Anton quickly, but as stealth as always, left the place and went somewhere else. Without nothing to do instead of thinking about their escape, Olaf and Alfar kept talking about it in secret, trying to improve some parts, and plan their actions while Casper was out.
The future was not too much positive as things turned out to be now, but they couldn’t help but hope that their efforts would not be for nothing.
...
At lunchtime, Olaf, Alfar, and Anton got together and started to talk about Casper’s rescue. Olaf had prepared their cover, so the Ridires wouldn’t bother them.
The man had bribed a bunch of Ridires to take part on the shift to watch out for the lunchtime of the morning. Every warrior standing in the canteen was under Olaf’s influence, and they would not move an inch to stop them even if they started to do a mess inside there.
Both Anton and Alfar found that to be a very frightening power. In truth, money was a power that was unequaled for any other if one could discover how to use it properly. Olaf was someone who could do that almost naturally, and that was his major skill. Maybe because he was born in a wealthy Jarl family that every time was involved with business and, sometimes, even corruption.
"Just how can you do such a thing? I mean, even if you have money, what’s the point when the handcuffs will not allow you to conspire against the prison?" Alfar asked. Anton narrowed his eyes towards Olaf, and the last felt that the middle-aged man already knew how.
"This is a secret, so I can’t really detail much about it, but we Frelsi, and even some Jarls, have a jargon specifically to overcome these restrictions on our minds. Some words can’t trigger some types of brain responses that would generally be stopped by the mas... the handcuffs." During his explanation, Olaf was paying a lot of attention to his surroundings. Nobody was looking there, but even so, Alfar couldn’t understand it at all, since most of them were Frelsi or corrupted Jarls as well. But he decided to not go too deep in that subject and focus on the issue they had to solve there.
"Ok, cutting the blabbering, let’s talk about how we will rescue Casper." Anton interrupted before they kept talking, and then approached the table, leaning onto it.
"I have an idea of what to do, as I said. Don’t ask me how, but I could discover that Casper was passing through the Dark zone every single day until now, and I know that’s surprising but don’t sweat it, that’s not the problem here." He cut them again, just when they were about to comment about the Dark Zone thing.
"After one week like this, that hell of a guy could stubbornly survive somehow, and now they have his mask being forged, and the Forger seems to be very excited with this specific craft, so probably it will be ready until today’s night or tomorrow’s morning."
Alfar nodded in agreement, massaging his temples and reflecting on those words.
"Ok, so we have a short deadline, that’s why you were talking about initiate the plan so quickly." 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Yeah, I can also understand the rush, but, just maybe, it’s not pointless to get so flustered like this? I mean, not that I can be right here, but we can’t really walk into the corridors even if we want, right?" With insecurity, Olaf pointed.
"Don’t worry, Anton also thinks the same as you, but we have something on our hands that can help, thanks to Casper." He pulled something out of his pocket and showed it to them discreetly. It was a white cube. Olaf knew what it was, and even Alfar was familiarized with that.
"Master key..." Both of them murmured, glancing at each other.
"Yeah, I could get it from him somehow, and now we have a power in our hands that even Casper wouldn’t comprehend."
"I don’t understand... Will we invade somewhere? Maybe the security system or something? I don’t think that it can help with our handcuffs." Olaf rubbed his neck while asking.
"Don’t worry. Anton knows how to do things. What do you think Anton was before getting here?"
Olaf and Alfar had an idea but didn’t respond. The fact was that Anton was a criminal, but what kind of thing he did, if he was a Frelsi or Jarl, one could just guess.
"Anton was a Frelsi. And he was a powerful one. To the point where Anton knows how to break one side of the handcuffs."
Olaf wasn’t as experienced as Anton, since he stayed among the Frelsi for not too much time before getting arrested. The same goes for Alfar, who never worked with Frelsis before.
"So... are you saying that the Frelsi can break the ma... the handcuffs... with this?"
Anton shook his head, crossing his arms and leaning even more on the table.
"Of course not. If so, the Ridires and Jarls also would do it at some point. Some specific Frelsi learns how to program the software of these things and corrupt them, allowing them to do some things they shouldn’t do... I was one of these Frelsi... And that’s how I will make us save the White warrior." Proudly, he puffed his chest and gave an arrogant look to Olaf and Alfar, who were glazing at him, totally surprised.
