Divine Emperor of Death-Chapter 4479: A Reunion?
Chapter 4479: A Reunion?
*Whoosh!~*
Davis and a few others arrived above the Cloudveil Citadel. He had just known the name of this city from Mingzhi, who quickly caught onto this otherworldly invasion with her vast intelligence network. He was playing with Viridia and his other daughters, the little ones even drawing makeup on him, when he heard Nether Devils appear here in the Whispering Wildlands.
How could he remain at home after that?
He had been wanting to see the Nether Devils with his own eyes. Unexpectedly, they appeared above a continent above the Whispering Wildlands Lower Realm. It was still within the realm, so it was fine for him to go there.
Everyone wanted to come, but he forbade them from leaving and only turned up with Mingzhi and Stella. It didn’t take them much time to come here since they had Stella’s godly spatial powers with them.
Davis appeared in the skies of the Cloudveil Citadel, his eyes narrowing at the rampage the Nether Devils caused.
They were laughing and displayed pure savagery, ripping apart their enemies while letting them experience the pain through torture.
One Nether Devil grabbed the arms of a man with its fingers, simply tearing her apart as it pulled her from both sides and drank the blood that fell down like a fountain. Another one simply threw a magical beast rabbit nearly ten percent of its size into its nether region and started humping the empty air while waving its cleaver, cutting down numerous cultivators, and smashing the buildings.
There were many more vile things happening, causing Davis’s expression to sink.
As being of other planes, he didn’t find it strange that they would destroy, ransack, violate, and kill people on this plane. However, to derive enjoyment from it while displaying utter disregard for their opponents’ lives and dignity, he was incensed.
"Truly an evil race..."
Davis’s expression turned cold.
He took out Yama, his soul force emerging from his hand as it encased its curved black blade with a thick scent of death. Death energy encompassed the blade of the scythe, and he unleashed the Soul Suppression Art on the rampaging Nether Devils below, causing them to abruptly freeze.
Their narrow, sly-looking eyes abruptly turned into one of panic.
"This is..."
One of them barely managed to recognize that it was death energy before its head was sliced off as a curved blade swung through its neck. The death energy spiraled into its soul and vanquished it before it could react further, not even having the chance to fight back, much less heal.
*Whoosh!~*
Davis’s figure flickered through the skies. A streak of shadow and wave of death energy cascaded wherever he went. Yama, his blood-bound scythe, whirled in a deadly arc as he swung it downwards.
*Shiiing!*
Dozens of Nether Devils below, once frozen mid-laughter and massacre, were cleanly split in half. Their upper bodies slid from their waists, heads twisted in expressions of sheer terror. There was no regeneration. The death energy that wreathed his scythe pierced deep into their soul cores, disintegrating their very essence.
Each strike appeared to be final as he didn’t look back and cleaved through the endless scourge of the Nether Devils, who numbered in the ten thousand, although most of them were just Immortal Emperor Stage Nether Devils. Regardless, his path was absolute.
Immortal Emperor Nether Devils couldn’t even resist the Soul Suppression Art. They directly fainted, and he used a normal soul attack to kill them all in one move, leaving only the Empyrean Nether Devils for him to slice and dice.
The cultivators on the ground could only gape in shock as their enemies were obliterated like puppets with their strings cut. The mindboggling thing was that the people were spared from the terrifying nature of death energy. Even as the ominous energy brushed past them, it didn’t affect them at all, allowing them to understand the terrifying control the Divine Emperor of Death had over death energy.
Each Empyrean Nether Devil stood helpless. They couldn’t move from fear. They couldn’t run from being limp. They couldn’t even scream as the Divine Emperor of Death descended upon them like the will of death itself.
His Soul Suppression Art continued to lock down the battlefield. The massive surge of death energy blanketed the entire city, pinning the Nether Devils in place like insects in a jar. Only their eyes trembled violently, darting about with growing panic.
Davis didn’t look at them. He didn’t acknowledge them as lifeforms that could justify their existence anymore if they behaved like absolutely vile barbarians during an invasion.
This army was less than insects to him now.
*Clang! Shhk!*
He reaped their souls like wheat, Yama cleaving through flesh, bone, and energy alike. Each stroke was effortless yet absolute. Mid-level Empyrean Nether Devils fell without resistance. Their twisted bodies collapsed into puddles of black blood, their cries vanishing before they even formed. Even High-Level Empyrean Nether Devils were no match for Davis.
They were barely able to move but not much, their heads still getting cleaved like they were getting a clean shave. It was as though their heads were only a decoration for them, unsightly and displeasing to look at that they had to get it removed.
"Stop!"
Finally, a deeper tremor passed through the land.
A towering figure loomed at the heart of the city ruins.
Davis barely cast a look at the so-called Nether Devilarch.
It stood easily over three thousand meters tall, its entire form cloaked in layered obsidian scales like it had an exoskeleton armor. Chains dangled from its wrists, each ending in shrunken heads that murmured cursed mantras. Its mouth, a horizontal maw running from one ear to another, opened and exhaled a fog of corrupt essence. A single crimson sigil pulsed on its forehead, twitching as if alive.
Its soul trembled with fury and also fear.
The moment Davis’s will locked onto it, the Nether Devilarch staggered. Its massive arms twitched. The ground around it cracked, and the poisonous fog it exhaled dispersed into a mist. free𝑤ebnovel.com
But Davis did not attack.
He hovered just above the city, scythe drawn back, eyes narrowed in cold disdain.
"You’re not worth killing yet," Davis said calmly, voice carrying like a whisper through a storm, "But since you came here, don’t think you can leave."
The Nether Devilarch quivered. It growled in a low voice, appearing to be at unease. It knew this human was strange with his control over death energy. That was something not even their Nether Devil race was capable of, reminding him of the rumored Nether Springs Death Wolves race that was abnormally powerful with the usage of Nether Divine Totems.
Davis harrumphed and continued slaughtering the Nether Devils.
His base prowess in Soul Forging Cultivation had eclipsed many times. Every time he finished a session, his prowess would increase by half a level. He was used to it, so he wasn’t that excited to showcase it.
Moreover, there were truly too many Nether Devils that he got bored halfway. Some had even gone out to other cities earlier, and he had Mingzhi follow them and end them once and for all. On the other hand, Stella sealed the region, not allowing the Nether Devils to escape. She had even blocked the portal forcefully, disallowing more Nether Devils from entering.
Suddenly, a soft buzz rippled through the sky. A spatial rift opened, and several figures emerged from the shimmering light.
The Heaven’s Warriors had finally arrived.
"Venerable Knight Lussandra, you’re so late. I thought you were-"
Davis was ninety percent done with hunting the Nether Devils within the vast city. He had killed over a thousand and two hundred Empyrean Stage Nether Devils and was about to be done with the rest who had gathered near the Nether Devilarch. They were all Peak-Level Empyrean Nether Devils, appearing to protect the Nether Devilarch. Some of them were also at the layer limit.
To kill them, Davis would be hard-pressed. They also seem like they have completed their preparations to escape, revealing strange artifacts.
However, with Venerable Knight Lussandra here, he knew things might not go in the Nether Devil race’s way.
But what he didn’t expect was to see a deeply familiar face appear.
Davis was stunned. He thought he would never see this person again, at least until he reached the Upper Realms. However, they returned, their cultivation base at the Empyrean Stage, as he was previously informed, but he could instantly see through that it was nothing but an avatar.
Still, Davis found himself unable to let out a word.
Their separation was not something that he approved of from the bottom of his heart. He had only let her go because that was her fate that would allow her to become stronger. He couldn’t bear to suppress her growth further, even if it was for her own good.
"Brother, it’s been a long time."
A young blonde-haired woman spoke amidst the ruined city, her gaze calm and serene as she moved the strand of her hair to the side.
"Clara..." Davis instantly felt a thousand emotions swell inside of him, "Have you been alright? Were you treated badly?"
"No, brother. I have the most valuable resources handed to me on a silver plate, and no one dares to be disrespectful to me. I descended for another purpose but today, I have come here after hearing a new prophecy that has been made about a barbaric race appearing in the Lower Realms, and sure enough, Nether Devils seemed to have appeared here."
Clara turned to look at the Nether Devilarch before her gaze fell on the portal.
"That will remain open for who knows how long, so I intend to seal it. Brother, please stay back. We will take care of it."
"How can that be?"
Davis stepped forward as he waved his sword, "Little sister, I don’t doubt your strength, but you know your brother is impoverished. We would need the Nether Devil Cores to make a living. If we have the Nether Devilarch Core, we would be all the more able to make ends meet."
"..."
Clara couldn’t hide a smile from appearing on her lips, but it was hidden behind an opaque veil.
"..." The Heaven’s Warriors looked confused, wondering why the brother and sister were still so friendly.
Venerable Knight Lussandra didn’t seem too concerned. She only kept an eye on them while getting rid of the remaining Empyrean Nether Devils with a wave of her hand, causing deadly wind blades to surge and cut them the same way Davis did.
However, they could at least regenerate. But with Davis’s attacks, they didn’t even have that option.
"Then I’ll rely on you before we take all the spoils," Clara uttered in a calm voice.
"Haha! I’d like to see you try."
Davis laughed, shooting towards the Nether Devilarch.
"Human, you dare!?"
For the first time, the young and trembling Nether Devilarch made a move. With his movement, the color of heaven and earth changed. His undulations instantly revealed him to be a Level Four Empyrean Nether Devil, but his prowess caused him to be near the layer limit.
He raised a bone sword and slashed towards Davis, a terrifying wave of nether-darkness energy ripping apart the space.
At the same time, three artifacts, including the drum, were used to affect Davis’s movements, causing him to be negatively affected.
