Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 24: Dragon Strike
Chapter 24 - Dragon Strike
Ark's vision blurred as he stared ahead. He could see a figure skillfully dancing around the monster while lashing out at intervals, but he was sure that it would not last long.
Just like the last time he was hit with a move like this, his whole body was in pain. Thankfully, the leaves had managed to cushion his landing just a little.
He tried to get up to his feet, only to feel his legs wobble, it felt as though there was a void where his legs were meant to be.

But he still managed to rise up.
Then a strange tingling began in his head, at first it was bearable but soon it became far too disturbing.
It was as though countless tiny bells increasing and reducing intensity at each moment were ringing in his ears, it sounded like multiple cymbals being struck, threatening to break down the walls of his mind.
Ark picked up his axe and took a laborious step forward.
He had fantasised about the day he would become a curse bearer for years, on many difficult nights, that had been his solace—it was the only reason he could go to bed with a smile on his face!
If he was to lose this... then he would be nothing.
The ringing finally cleared but just as it did, Ark's eyes widened, it had not left without leaving something behind.
He held his axe tightly in a far different stance, it was now as though a different person had descended on the battlefield.
In front of him Kiera was fighting fiercely with the beast, the claws of the monster came inches from her face only to be blocked by an Invisible force.
But Ark did not notice this.
Neither did he notice that Kiera seemed to have been freed from her fears.
His mind was too busy processing the influx of information that was assaulting him.
"I know how to beat it..."
With a battle roar, Ark charged forward, his body leaning slightly forward to cut through the air resistance faster.
The beast noticed his charge and latched its claws into a broken tree.
Whoosh!
The entire thing was hurled into the air, right towards Ark.
He careened to the side of the forest to avoid the blow, now shielded from more attacks by the monster, he moved even faster, navigating his way across the trees.
The monster still had Kiera to contend with so its attention was split between the two of them.
Ark exploded out of the forest, running at amazing speed only to jump high up into the air as he approached the monster.
'I need to go for the head.'
Sadly the beast was 12 feet tall and he was a few feet short. But suddenly, something changed.
He felt his body feel lighter for a second, and then it was as though he was tossed higher into the air by an invisible force.
Ark glanced at the floor only to see Kiera's free hand pointed at him.
'Kiera! That girl, so she too has unlocked it.'
There was one thing that the professor had said during their briefing that Ark had latched onto, and that was that it was indeed possible to activate a fragment of your curse during the trial.
Now descending down at the creature from the sky, Ark brought his axe to his shoulder and twisted his body to the right.
The beast's hand extended one of its claws, ready to skewer him the moment he descended, and had finally managed to pin Kiera with the other limb.
But it no longer mattered.
The wind was whistling through his ears while his clothes billowed by his sides as his speed intensified.
Ark felt an overwhelming strength enveloping his veins, it was a new feeling that was alien to him and entirely unique.
It was like an overwhelming force trying to consume him from within, breathtaking strength that encompassed every single aspect of his being.
His body, his soul and his mind.
It was far from normal—it was divine.
With a thunderous roar, Ark screamed at the top of his lungs as he struck forward in a wide arc.
"Dragon—Strike!"
Boom!
Reality seemed to come apart as a beam of golden light tore through the axe, the weapon withered on the spot and everything from the beast's torso up came apart, splitting into two bloody pieces.
And yet the beam of golden light did not stop...
It cut through the forest, its wave of destruction splitting up the entire forest bed and creating a massive path free of trees in its wake.
And then everything went black.
Ark was surrounded by a vast expanse of darkness, only that this darkness was somehow like water, sloshing around his legs as he walked forward endlessly.
His mind was a haze, he could not remember who he was or how he had gotten here.
All he knew was that he was at peace, a peace so encompassing that he felt lost.
"Wake up."
There was a whisper in the air, like the wind but different, a tiny voice in his head that refused to let up.
"Don't give in!"
The image in front of him twisted and he was now in front of an endless meadow filled with a large collection of flowers and a crystal clear lake.
"You're running out of time!"
High up in the golden clouds was a light blue sun, bathing the world in its ethereal light.
"I... need to..."
He forgot the words as soon as they left his lips, it was like a stray thought never truly having purchase in his mind.
Right now, all he felt was peace.
He walked next to the stream and stared at his reflection in the water.
A boy with shimmering golden eyes and black hair with golden highlights stared back at him, the boy's clothing was like countless shifting shadows, twisting and turning—formless.
The figure's gaze pierced through his as he spoke in a voice so serene that the very world seemed to pale in comparison.
"The time has not yet come."
"Wake up!"
Ark's body suddenly jolted and his mind tingled as though it had been struck by lighting.
Everything was bright, up to the point that he was completely blind.
'Where am I?'
That was his first thought and he got an answer immediately. Yes, he had just finished the trial, or at least he thought he did.
And yet something felt different, it was as though he was forgetting something. Like he had lost a very piece of himself.
Ark felt something moist leave his eyes and fall down his face.
'Am I crying? Why am I crying?'
There was no answer...
That was when a golden screen appeared right before him. It was strange, he could not see anything and yet the screen was very much visible.
