Divine Heritage: Only I Can Judge The gods-Chapter 32: The Duality of Man
Chapter 32 - The Duality of Man
Ark rubbed his eyes in case he had been imagining things but he was still right there.
Millions of questions raced through in his mind plaguing his thoughts to the point where they became incoherent.
The only thing he could say was:
"Dad?" Ark's voice barely left his throat.
There was no doubt about it, although he was now cleanly shaven, with a proper haircut and posture, there was no mistaking it.
The pitch black hair Ark had inherited from him, the deep grey eyes, the shape of his nose down to even the curvature of eyebrows.
Ark knew every single detail, that was why he was sure that this man was indeed his father and yet he refused to believe it.
How did it make any sense? He had just been home a few minutes ago. Did his father somehow shave, get a new haircut and somehow get here faster than him?
And what about the guards? Every sign pointed that he was a top government official. How could his father have such a role when he spends most of his days either drunk or watching football?
It suddenly occurred to Ark that something was off, something was terribly off.
The man walked up to them, the two security guards giving way for him.
He stood right in front of them both, but he barely paid Ark any recognition, instead, his eyes were locked on Kiera.
"Kiera Stormwind."

'Even their voices are the same.'
"Major Gray." Kiera nodded curtly.
'The same name...'
The man smiled and took her hand in his. "Send my regards to your father."
With that, he walked past the two of them and out of the building.
Ark immediately turned, frantically, grabbing onto Kiera's shoulder.
"Do you have a phone?"
There was something he needed to confirm.
Although slightly surprised by his actions she must have suspected it was urgent because she immediately took out her phone and handed it to Ark.
He dialed the only number he knew into the keyboard and placed the call.
Ring Ring
Ark held his breath in anticipation.
Ring Ring
Whatever would be the outcome of this call would determine his next action...
Ring—
The call went through.
"Who the hell calls a guy at this time of the day? Are you f—"
"Dad?" Ark's anxious voice came over the phone.
"What the hell is wrong with you k—"
Ark interrupted him before he could continue.
"Do you have a twin?"
The line went silent, for a few tense moments Ark did not hear a single peep from the line.
When the voice came next, it was rather subdued.
"Ark... where are you right now?"
"I'm at the wielder's center—Wait what does that matter, answer the damn question!"
Ark's mind was in turmoil.
He had endured his father's antics for far too long, now he needed answers.
What happened to him? What happened to his mother? Who was the man walking away right now?!
The questions press upon Ark like invisible shackles threatening to bring him down.
"Ark, listen to me!" His father's voice was tingled with fear. "Stay away from that man! Do you hear me? Stay away from him!"
"What do you mean? What are you talking about?"
There was no answer, the line went dead.
"Ark, what's going on?" Kiera's worried voice reached him but he was now staring forward.
The man... he had stopped walking.
With a simple wave of his hand, his guards continued onward, moving farther away from the wielder's center and leaving him alone.
Just then, Grey turned to face them, from the distance Ark could see a small smile curl up his lips.
His whole facade of not knowing who Ark was had now burned away, he knew just exactly who he was.
He turned around and began to take gentle strides toward the two of them, the smirk on his face twisting into a scowl.
Although Ark was curious as to what his next move would be, for whatever reason his entire body was screaming at him, his instincts telling him to get as far away as possible.
"To think that I would have a chance to rid myself of past mistakes..."
The man's eyes suddenly took on an orange glow.
Ark had no idea what was happening but it was clear that he was going to be aggressive. Despite the protest of his body, golden light soon enveloped him and a beautiful axe found its way into his hand.
"Who the hell are you?"
The man cocked an eyebrow, when he spoke his voice was cold and devoid of emotion.
"Who else could I be? I'm your father."
"The hell you are!"
Ark took a step forward only to be held back by Kiera. She held him firmly and forcefully pulled him back.
"We need to run!" She said, the panic evident in her voice.
Suddenly the building trembled and part of the ceiling collapsed right in front of the passage to the staircase, leaving only the double doors to the man free.
Gray smiled.
"Let's make this look as natural as it can be..."
Kiera's artifact materialized beside her as she took a cautious step backward, forcefully dragging Ark along with her.
She placed her palm in front of her threateningly, unsure of where to go. In front of her was the man who was acting unusually hostile and behind her the exit had been completely blocked, leaving no room for escape.
She was stuck between the devil and the Red Sea.
"Major, think about what you are about to—"
But it was already too late, the walls the double doors were attached to compressed and shot forward, crushing the doors and sealing them within the room.
The building then shook violently, and the entirety of the extravagant ceiling came tumbling down.
Ark immediately pulled Kiera to his side, shielding her from the crashing ceiling with his body.
Whoosh!
Suddenly, the entire building was flushed with a large inflow of air, sending everything into a spiral. The door was blown open by a turbulent gale of wind and all the debris around was scattered in different directions.
Both Ark and Kiera lifted their heads only to see the entire ceiling floating some distance above them.
And standing next to them was a troubling sight, it was the picture perfect replica of the man who had just attacked them.
The wind once again intensified in the room, causing Ark and Kiera to shut their eyes tight to prevent the debris from damaging them.
By the time they opened their eyes, both men were gone, and the collapsed ceiling was resting gently by the side of the room.
