Chapter 73: Chapter 73: I Was Wrong

She tried to suppress all the emotions welling up inside her and walked toward him.

After she crossed the road and walked up behind him, he still hadn’t noticed her. She just stood there, waiting for him to finish his call.

But the phone call seemed like it would never end, and he even let out a low laugh from time to time.

She had never seen this side of him before...

The pain in Mika Summers’s heart was beyond words. She felt like a joke—a complete and utter joke. She had waited for him for an hour at the restaurant, and now she had been waiting here for over ten minutes.

He hadn’t remembered her, not even sparing a single glance behind him...

Henry Archer had been leaning against the car waiting for his boss, but he had drifted off to sleep. Just then, the phone in his pocket suddenly rang, jolting him awake.

He fumbled for his phone and answered, "Hello?"

"Henry Archer, is Tristan with you right now?" Lily Shaw’s urgent voice immediately came from the other end.

"He is. What’s wrong?"

"Master Jennings slashed someone at Vespera ten minutes ago."

"What?" ’Master Jennings slashed someone?’

"Quick, tell Tristan to go handle it!"

"Okay, okay." Henry Archer didn’t waste another second. He immediately hung up and got out of the car.

He started running toward the restaurant, but after a couple of steps, he turned back and headed toward his boss, who was behind the car.

Tristan Grayson saw Henry Archer’s frantic state, and his expression darkened. He spoke into the phone, "Maggie Monroe, I’ll have to leave this to you. I’ll buy you a drink when I get back." With that, he hung up.

He raised an eyebrow at Henry Archer. "What happened?"

"Boss, Master Jennings is in trouble."

Upon hearing it was Cassian Jennings, Tristan Grayson sneered. "What trouble could he possibly get into? In all of Tridell, who would dare to mess with him?"

"It’s true, Boss. Lily Shaw just called. She said Master Jennings slashed someone at Vespera and that you need to go handle it right away."

The moment Henry Archer finished speaking, Tristan Grayson’s face turned grim. He walked straight to the car parked on the side of the road, opened the driver’s door, and got in. Henry Archer wasted no time, scrambling into the passenger seat after his boss.

Throughout the entire exchange, no one noticed the woman who had been standing behind Tristan Grayson all along.

Mika Summers didn’t snap out of it until the car had sped away.

She watched the car disappear into the distance, threw the container she was holding into a roadside trash can, and then squatted down, wrapping her arms around herself.

If that phone call had chilled her to the bone, then the fact that he hadn’t even noticed her existence and had just abandoned her plunged her into a pain so deep it was numbing.

"So this is the man you married behind your family’s back."

A cold, familiar voice sounded from behind her. A violent shudder ran through Mika Summers as she struggled to her feet to look at the person behind her.

When she saw it was her brother, her tears began to fall uncontrollably. With a trembling voice, she sobbed, "Brother... I’m sorry..."

"How could you be so foolish..." Seeing Mika cry, Archie Summers swallowed the harsh words he’d been about to say. In the end, this was all that came out.

"Brother... I’m sorry... I know I was wrong..."

Archie Summers sighed. He stepped forward and pulled her into his arms, murmuring, "If you know you were wrong, then come home with me. I’ll find you the best lawyer and we’ll get you a divorce." He couldn’t bear to blame his little sister; after all, he felt it was his fault, too. For years, he hadn’t fulfilled his duties as an older brother, allowing Mika to be deceived by a man like Tristan Grayson.
