Chapter 685: Chapter 688 Nothing Achieved

Naturally, Han Jiajia and one of her colleagues were assigned to guard the four unconscious men.

Looking at the four of them lying on the ground, Han Jiajia thought for a moment before walking over to Liu Ergou and sitting down without a second thought.

Seeing her sit down beside him, Liu Ergou shook his head. "Seriously? You don’t even check if the ground is clean."

Han Jiajia retorted, "What’s there to be afraid of? If my clothes get dirty, you can just wash them for me. Problem solved, right?"

Her retort left Liu Ergou speechless. Seeing him silent, Han Jiajia giggled. "Am I wrong? You’re my boyfriend. Is there a problem with you washing my clothes?"

At that, Liu Ergou quickly recovered. "No problem! What problem could there be? It’s perfectly natural for a boyfriend to wash his girlfriend’s clothes. It’s only right and proper!"

Han Jiajia nodded in satisfaction at his response.

Just then, her phone rang, interrupting their conversation. Puzzled, she took out her phone and answered.

"Hello, Captain, what’s the matter?"

The man on the other end replied, "That man we took away, his phone just rang. The caller asked if the mission was a success, but our guy was too slow to respond. The person on the other end seemed to sense something was wrong and hung up immediately. So..."

The captain hadn’t even finished speaking when Liu Ergou, who was sitting beside her, shot to his feet and snatched the phone.

"I get it. We’ve tipped them off. But don’t worry, I know where their hideout is. Get your people moving now. We’ll rendezvous at the abandoned factory. I’m on my way."

The captain on the other end of the line immediately asked, "Who is this?"

Liu Ergou didn’t mince words. "I’m Han Jiajia’s boyfriend. I had a run-in with this crew just this morning. If you trust me, do as I say. If you don’t, then there’s nothing more I can do."

The person on the phone fell silent. More than ten seconds passed.

Finally, the captain’s voice came through. "I believe you. I’ll report this to my superiors immediately. You should get moving."

After that, the call ended.

Seeing the call end, Liu Ergou said a quick word to Han Jiajia and immediately headed for the parking lot, driving his own car straight toward the abandoned factory.

About half an hour later, Liu Ergou arrived at the abandoned factory. The area was already cordoned off with police tape and surrounded by squad cars.

"Hello, are you Han Jiajia’s boyfriend? The one who grabbed the phone earlier?" an officer asked as Liu Ergou stepped out of his car.

Liu Ergou nodded. "Yes, that’s me. But now’s not the time for introductions. Is everyone here? Are your guns loaded with live rounds? If not, I suggest you call off this operation. Otherwise, it will be extremely dangerous."

The officer who greeted him nodded gravely. "Don’t worry. They’re all live rounds. We’re ready to move at any time."

Hearing this, Liu Ergou wasted no more time and headed straight for the location he had visited before, a dozen police officers following close behind. Soon, he arrived at the small courtyard. With a powerful kick, he smashed the gate open, went inside, and located the hidden passageway.

He led the police team through the passage and down into the fifth basement level.

However, when they arrived, Liu Ergou found that the once-bustling basement level, though brightly lit, was no longer filled with the roar of a crowd. Instead, it was terrifyingly silent.

Looking at the expansive casino before him, Liu Ergou’s brows furrowed tightly. After a moment’s thought, he went to the second floor and began searching the VIP rooms one by one. A thorough search of the VIP rooms revealed they were all empty.

Refusing to give up, Liu Ergou went straight to the fourth floor. As it turned out, the fourth floor was also deserted. Many items had vanished, likely packed up and taken away.

Liu Ergou was surprised. These people were incredibly fast. For a place this large, forget about moving equipment; just evacuating everyone should have taken a while. Yet, they had managed to vanish without a trace at an astonishing speed, even taking some of their equipment with them. It was truly incredible.

His surprise lasted only a few seconds before he headed straight for the fifth level, where their offices were located. On the fifth floor, he located the chairman’s office, kicked the door open, and went inside.

As expected, the chairman’s office was also empty, but a piece of paper sat on the desk.

Seeing the note, Liu Ergou raised an eyebrow, picked it up, and began to read.

A few lines were written on the paper.

"I truly underestimated you. To think that five Anjin masters still couldn’t take you down! But this is just the beginning. More formidable people will be coming for you soon. If Anjin doesn’t work, we’ll send Huajin. If Huajin fails, then Houtian. Unless you are an Innate Grandmaster, this debt will be repaid."

After reading the note, Liu Ergou couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh. When he was done laughing, he tore the note to pieces, tossed it aside, and headed back up.

Looking around at the empty five-story building, Liu Ergou sighed. He turned to the police officers and said, "Looks like we were too late. This was a wasted trip; we got nothing. There’s nothing to do but pack it in."

The officers knew he wasn’t joking, so they followed him out of the building.

No sooner had Liu Ergou stepped outside than he saw Han Jiajia squeezing through the crowd to approach him. Before Liu Ergou could say a word, she rushed up to him, asking anxiously, "Er Gou, what happened in there? Did you catch anyone?"

"We were too late," Liu Ergou said, shaking his head. "There’s nothing. They left behind nothing but an empty building."

He clicked his tongue. "TSK. But I’ll give them this, their packing speed is incredible. They managed to clear out completely, without a trace, in under an hour! I’m honestly impressed by that."

Hearing that they had come up empty-handed, Han Jiajia shook her head in disappointment.
