Don: The Blood Chains-Chapter 55: Voices.
"How was he?" Julian asked as he, with Jimmy, Misa, and of course Fian, were all in the room with Olivia who looked like someone who just survived a whole psychological torture.
She was breathing heavily, her whole being was shaking while sweat came from her forehead... and those tears in her eyes.
"It was... overwhelming." She said as she looked up at Julian. "But how did you guys get here so fast?" She asked next because she didn’t send any signal, didn’t even have the panic button on her.
"I saw him when I left you and immediately informed the headquarters." Fian spoke as she sat in the chair.
"What way was he overwhelming?" Jimmy asked as he had the notes in his hand. "We need to know his behavior and–"
"Unpredictable." Oliva said it straight away as her hands shook a little. "He is just an unpredictable, mentally shattered, pure evil soul. Somebody who can change within a second, his whole personality is like, he lives in two worlds at the same time, almost like schizophrenia, but the thing with him is that—"
"He has not lost touch with reality but controls it." Julian finished it for her. "He is embracing it, or more like in that 10 years he truly broke, like he broke to pieces but then, on his own, he rebuilt each piece." He gestured with his hands.
"So he is like Gabriel Birnusa?" Jimmy asked as he looked up his notes and when he said the name everybody just became silent.
He was well known, not a gangster or drug lord... but a serial killer who loved to cut out his victim’s eyes and... eat them.
"That’s true, he too was falsely sentenced, he was even sexually assaulted multiple times by guards for 5 years." Misa said as he was eating the chocolate that Joseph brought. "Though he killed them... and their families."
"Not just them but other 23 victims who he cut to pieces and fucking sold their meat as chicken." Fian added, and yeah the story was so big and so disgusting that during investigations, that little detail remained secret, as the evidence showed that more than 100 people eat from that meat... human meat.
He was one of the most gruesome, and brutal serial killers, who loved to eat eyeballs, chop up people and sell the meat, and well he was never caught... at least alive. The DSA nor the police were ever able to actually get him, he was moving like a ghost, a perfect villain, who never left behind evidence.
Though he died over his fucking obsession over eating eyes... he got an infection from it and that was his end... and they only found his body because of the smell that came from the house of his... not just from his rotting body but the 3 victims he had in there.
"Yeah, Gabriel was broken just like Joseph, but the difference between them is that Gabriel gave up, he changed and became a serial killer, who couldn’t control himself and those voices in his head." Julian explained as he was the lead investigator for that case. "That’s why Joseph is 10 times more dangerous. He broke but pieced himself back together, and for ten years he listened to the voices, kept suffering, but he never gave himself to the darkness... he embraced it, he danced with it like a partner, a good dance partner."
They all fell silent as Julian said it, because it made a lot of sense.
"It is still terrifying like, how does he not went crazy, like if I am staying in dark for a few hours I already fucked up in my head, but he did it for ten straight years, without a scream, without talking to anybody."
"Oh he talked, had a lot of conversation." Julian spoke, looking at Misa.
"To who?" He asked, raised an eyebrow and confused just as the others.
Julian smiled as he pointed to his head. "The voices. We all know about the voices that mentally ill people have, but there is a difference between them, and there is a kind that’s just on another level, that something else entirely. The voice is no longer a tormentor... it becomes an ingrained presence, like a shadow they carry wherever they go. This kind of madness is quieter but deeper, more unsettling, because the line between the voice and the self blurs until it’s impossible to tell where one ends and the other begins." He looked at Olivia. "And then there’s our lovely Joseph Cassian. He didn’t fight the voice, he didn’t resist it like most do. He understood it, listened to it. Let it twist and shape him, but never let it own him. That’s what makes him terrifying."
"Psychopathic fuck..." Olivia said after Julian finished. "...who can switch between being friendly to being manic." She looked at the table. "He brought me tulips, chocolate, and even comforted me. And then just... said he would behead me, my family, my animals. Then he sexualized me and joked, then switched again." She looked up. "He’s a danger. He can manipulate and control without even needing weapons of any kind."
Silence once again... though there was somebody who had other opinions.
"Why are we... I’m sorry for saying this... but sucking his dick? Because that’s what we’re doing," Misa said as he looked around at everyone. "I mean, he’s not a comic book villain, he has no superpowers... he’s just a human. Of course, he’s suffered a lot and probably developed some kind of mental illness, but up until this point, he’s done nothing. He has no power, we don’t even know if there’s any family around him. He has no influence or power in the criminal underworld, but we’re talking about him like he’s the big guy, when in truth, he’s just a piece of dust."
To be true, he told the truth. Joseph didn’t do anything up until this point that would put him on the map in the hierarchy. Yeah, he killed, but that didn’t give him power, only the opportunity to become something.
"Whoa, how unprofessional for you to use these words and disrespect the director of the agency." Fian said immediately. "Second, why are you acting like a stereotypical dumb agent who doesn’t know how things work... you are a division leader, Misa." She eyed her as said it and well that was true too.
"The person, who we ’suck the dick of," Julian looked deep into Misa’s eyes. "... is capable of changing the whole map of the underworld, destroying the hierarchy and everything within it... even if he’s just dust now. Not just that but he’s still a Cassian and what they brought to this country was just chaos every single time."
"Like a curse, the whole Cassian family was a big curse and still is." Jimmy said.
"Yeah, but now let’s leave and let Olivia rest." Julian said as she turned to her. "There will be agents protecting you... and congratulations, you become the connection between us and Joseph, so you will officially rank up and have your own unit, until then goodbye." He said and with it he left the room with Jimmy and Misa while Fian stayed with her.
Though it was just more unbelievable, it was exactly what Joseph said to her, to enjoy the promotion she will get, and now she got promoted to actually monitor him, the middleman. Like this was his whole plan to actually happen, to have a closer connection with the DSA.
"He knows how to move."
"Yeah Joseph is—"
"Not him, but Julian." Fian said as she stood up. "When he is this calm, without the aura and egotistical boss behavior, it means he’s already anticipating that something big is going to happen and he’s ready for it."
Yeah, the thing that was strange though Olivia didn’t really notice it or care about, was that Julian, the director of the DSA, just spoke with her casually, with them, when he’s supposedly an egoist, narcissistic motherfucker, who leads the most powerful agency.
The man who sees death as ’A negligible sacrifice for the greater good.’
And well, deaths are going to increase even if it’s not innocent ones... with the plan that Joseph and Pablo were talking about in the car.
"Setting them on fire?" Joseph asked back as Pablo was explaining something to him with excitement.
"Yeah, like it would be a good message, if we set them on fire in the public and just let them burn... we used it at the DAG like a terror message."
"But that’s tricky. First, capture them, then pour gasoline or something on them and light it up... isn’t that too much time?" Joseph asked him, though setting people on fire is also a good strategy to intimidate others.
"Yeah, it’s tricky and takes time, but just shooting them isn’t impressive enough."
Impressing... how should we... oh
"What if we shot them, then hung them up on a bridge with a message on them?" Joseph said. "Like five of them in a row hanging from a bridge with a message like ’Leave before you hang too’ It would be cool."
"Oh, that’s some cartel technique with a good catchphrase... maybe then chop them up and put their heads on something, like a statue or something."
"Like in the medieval ages when they put the enemy’s head on spears?" Joseph asked back, and it was actually something that would be horrifying for the enemies... though it’s not the medieval ages right now and second he was hungry. "You know what, Pablo... let’s get home first and then talk about it. I’m hungry and I’d like to eat before talking more deeply about it."
Pablo nodded to that, and they made their way home to eat before discussing their plans to finally claim some territory in the city.
Though one thing was certain... blood would flow in the streets.
