Drift Of The Multiverse: [Marvel] [Resident Evil] [DC] [Bleach] [DB]-Chapter 761 - 762: The Course Remains the Same
Countless blue and white lights flashed on the meteorite, and these clusters of light quickly shot toward the Venus.
Having experienced this before, no one on the bridge paid much attention. Everyone already had a clear impression of the Venus’s defensive capabilities. It seemed that attacks of this level wouldn’t even break through the outermost shield.
Clusters of white light exploded, and Ethan focused on the magnified images provided by Luna.
There were many hidden pits on the small meteorite, and nearly every pit concealed bugs.
The concentrated fire attack earlier didn’t mean there were only that many bugs on the meteorite. It simply meant that only those bugs were facing their direction.
This was evident from the subsequent attacks: as the meteorite moved through space, it also rotated. No matter which side it turned to, Luna was able to detect more of those bugs on the side facing them.
"Troop transport?"
The bugs in the Starship Troopers world were adept at using meteorites for interplanetary travel and could even use them to bypass human defenses and launch surprise attacks on rear areas.
So, the crew here wasn’t unfamiliar with this method of transport, though they were still surprised to see it here.
If Ethan hadn’t already confirmed that his main world was not the Starship Troopers world (due to different spatial coordinates), he might have suspected they had been in that world all along.
As the distance continued to close and Luna provided clearer images, Ethan confirmed that this wasn’t the Starship Troopers world. The differences between these bugs and the Arachnids were obvious. These large insects that could fire blue and white energy clusters looked more like giant mantises. The outer edge of their axe-like forelimbs had a kind of nozzle that fired the energy blasts. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Should we capture one to bring back?"
"No need."
Ethan waved his hand, directly rejecting the suggestion. He had no interest in capturing bugs. In fact, he wasn’t even planning to give them another chance to harass them.
Although these attacks couldn’t harm the Venus, constantly being bothered like this was annoying.
"Luna, prepare the main cannon to fire."
"Yes, Captain. Main cannon firing preparation complete."
The Venus’s primary technical sources came from the warship systems of Starship Troopers and Macross. Naturally, the famous Macross Cannon was equipped on the Venus.
The entire front end of the ship was part of the main cannon, and the muzzle was located at the very front. As the weapon activated, the entire front section of the warship began to emit a faint glow, indicating that the energy was charged and ready to fire.
"Fire, Crescent Beam."
"..."
Ethan’s firing command left everyone speechless, but their sarcastic remarks were swallowed up by the roaring energy beam that erupted. Watching the beam, which was wider than the ship itself, shoot forward and instantly engulf the meteorite, leaving behind nothing—not even dust—everyone’s focus shifted from complaining to the sheer power of the cannon.
As for the bugs and the meteorite? All were reduced to ash. No one cared. One of the crew’s regular leisure activities was exterminating bugs in the Starship Troopers world. The number of bugs they had killed was already beyond counting. If they cared about that, they wouldn’t have time for anything else.
"Target eliminated. Running diagnostics... Main cannon functioning normally. Beginning diagnostic of other systems..."
Ethan glanced at Luna’s report. This first test of the Venus’s main cannon had been a bit sudden, but the outcome was excellent, with no issues detected.
"Luna, maintain constant lifeform scans. Don’t overlook any meteorites or even stone fragments within detection range."
"Yes, Captain."
Having encountered one, there was always the possibility of encountering more. Ethan suspected that the target of this meteorite might have been the planet they had landed on earlier.
After all, bugs were infamous across the universe for being invaders and predators, a constant threat to any native lifeforms.
These creatures had an almost endless need for resources and were always expanding.
"Things just got complicated."
What Ethan could think of, Betty could also imagine. What made her conflicted now was that she didn’t know whether she should hope they had arrived in an entirely unfamiliar star system or pray that her homeland had not yet been overrun by these terrifying creatures.
After spending so much time on the ship and having matured with age, Betty was no longer as pessimistic as she had been in the past. She had gradually learned to face sudden changes, or perhaps she had simply prepared herself mentally for the worst. Compared to the kinds of sudden developments she had imagined, this wasn’t too difficult to accept.
"What do we do next?"
Most of those without immediate tasks had gathered on the bridge. Nebula took the opportunity to ask Ethan for his decision. She was seated in the pilot’s chair, also looking at the captain, awaiting new orders.
Based on the direction of flight, the bugs were coming from the star system they were headed toward. Their current trajectory was essentially carrying them straight into the bugs’ territory.
In the worst-case scenario, this could be the bugs’ base camp. Then again, maybe this was a newly emerging race that had only just started expanding into space, and they had just been wiped out at their doorstep by Ethan with one shot.
Ethan looked at everyone, then suddenly asked a question.
"Are we afraid of bugs?"
Everyone paused, then smiled and shook their heads.
No one here feared bugs, so why should they change course because of them? If the bugs didn’t seek them out, fine. But if they became an obstacle, they might end up being conveniently eliminated by Ethan and the crew.
"Proceed along the planned course."
In the following days, no more bug-infested meteorites were encountered, and the crew temporarily set aside the incident.
After staying a few days, Hermione didn’t remain for the entire holiday like before. She quickly made preparations to return home, agreeing to see Rin Tohsaka and the others again during the next school term.
She had wanted to invite them to her home, but after learning that they had other matters to attend to, she went back alone.
Judging by her tone when saying goodbye to Ethan, she would probably be back again.
It seemed she had already made a decision in her heart?
Unless Hermione spoke to him directly, Ethan couldn’t be sure. But he found that he genuinely wanted to know the answer. It seemed he wasn’t as indifferent as he had imagined.
Forcing himself to push aside such thoughts, Ethan looked at the three girls in front of him and placed three vials of potion on the table.
When crew members were roughly the same age and had reached their potential limits, Ethan would provide them with enhancement potions.
Given the different circumstances of the three, the potions he prepared this time were not standard but specially tailored.
For example, Leah’s potion was formulated specifically for her unique situation. It could stabilize the power of Diablo within her and even help her better absorb that power.
This meant that even if a powerful demon captured Leah in the future, she could no longer be used as a vessel for Diablo’s resurrection.
This potion didn’t immediately resolve all future problems. In keeping with Ethan’s usual style, he only provided the path and guidance. The rest had to be completed by the individual.
This potion would help Leah absorb Diablo’s bloodline, turning it into her own power, but the process wouldn’t be pleasant. It would even be painful. If Leah couldn’t endure it...
Leah didn’t hesitate. She knew this was her teacher’s first real test. If she couldn’t pass this trial...
She believed that if she failed, she would no longer be qualified to be Ethan’s student.
In reality, Leah was overthinking it. Although Ethan was strict, even if she failed this time, he wouldn’t abandon her. He would simply change to a gentler method to reach the same goal. At most, his evaluation of her might drop slightly.
Still, Ethan didn’t believe he would need to do that. With Leah’s talent and personality, such a small setback wouldn’t stop her.
As for the potion prepared for Rin, it was relatively more standard. It optimized her personal potential. As for her training path, Ethan didn’t need to worry. As Scáthach’s disciple, Rin lacked nothing to study or practice.
Lastly, the potion prepared for Illya had given Ethan a bit of a headache.
Illya’s appearance had remained unchanged all this time, so he specifically prepared a potion. When used with specialized equipment, it could allow her to attain an adult appearance in a short time and maintain her peak form indefinitely.
Illya picked up the potion, fiddled with it for a bit, then set it back down.
"Then I won’t use it for now. Otherwise, if I change appearance and return to Hogwarts, I’ll have to explain it to everyone."
The explanation was simple. It would just be that the previous accident had been resolved. After all, Hogwarts was a magic school, and everyone had seen plenty of strange things.
But Illya still found it troublesome and preferred to wait until she had completely left Hogwarts before using it. Besides, her current strength wasn’t weak, and her potential hadn’t been fully tapped yet, so she wasn’t in a hurry to rely on potions to surpass her limits.
"That’s fine too."
Having arranged things for the three, Ethan now prepared to go pick up Mordred.
(To be continued.)
