Duality of Shadows-Chapter 1019: They Had Conquered
Alm and Bruno stared at the man’s will... which was actually something left behind by themselves. In his eyes, they saw themselves—but it was a different version of them, creating a strange and uncomfortable feeling.
"So, what happened next? Are you the reason everyone in the universe has a bit of the pearl’s law?" Bruno asked.

"That’s right. I’m a will created with the power of this pearl, so I’m a bit different from the norm, able to interact subtly with it. Outside, before and after you became a missionary, countless years passed. I learned a lot during that time, watching the world from within—especially how to control this pearl perfectly," he replied with a light sigh.
Alm and Bruno understood. This wasn’t just a simple will—it was a nearly real copy of them, capable of learning and reflecting. The man continued:
"This pearl returned to being something without an owner and kept going through its cycle, infiltrating universes. Its goal seemed to be finding people who could use its power. Everyone who came into contact with it, even without mastering the item, ended up subtly altering the reality of their surroundings. At some point, I managed to influence the pearl subtly. I made it come to this universe more often than usual."
In short, whenever an item visited a universe, a planet and its people were affected. But he had made this place get visited much more often, which was why everyone here had a bit of it within them. Alm understood and added:
"You deliberately helped some people remember their past lives to spread information on Earth so I would end up receiving it."
The man nodded. "You’re me, so I was sure you’d read every fantasy story and tale you came across. When you finally saw the world, maybe that would help. I don’t know if it was useful, but it was an idea I had back then."
Alm and Bruno sighed heavily. In the end, they had unknowingly been responsible for many of the problems that happened to some people on Earth and for the distorted time laws of this universe.
This man only had a subtle influence, so he couldn’t choose exactly which planets the pearl would visit. That ended up affecting mortals in dozens of places across the universe. But since there were few, Earth ended up being visited frequently.
"Did you find any pattern in the pearl’s actions over time? Why does it visit universes? That information is really important," Alm asked directly. There were still two other items, and if they knew the pattern, they could get to them before the queen.
The man reflected. "Hmm... the pearl always visits universes similar to this one, with simple people. It appears on a planet and releases its law to the people. I guess the goal is to make them use that power, allowing them to create something different. Maybe it’s a measure by the heavenly laws to generate something new."
Alm and Bruno pondered this new information. Each primordial chaos item was created with a purpose. The Void Spear, for example, created the River of Reincarnation in the underworld’s void. But what would be the purpose of a pearl that used people’s imagination to materialize things?
It always visited mortal universes to create variables in those places... maybe for the same reason that the two, when creating the new Wisp race, added a variable that could change everything.
The heavenly laws were relatively fair. This gave the weak a chance, in case powerful universe invaders showed up to refine them, for example. That way, there would always be a chance of survival in those places.
Knowing this, the Heaven’s Will’s motives for pushing them to their limits to become missionaries became clear. The queen always kept it alive, but sometimes she needed to clip its wings so it would generate more powerful missionaries.
Over time, the queen came closer and closer to dominating the three items in her universe, and the Heaven’s Will was getting desperate.
The Heaven’s Will had told the man it was almost out of power in the past. It must have made a big move and lost again. The queen took its power, and since it didn’t have time to recover before she reached her goal, it made a bold gamble.
The items contained a part of the Heaven’s Will inside them. And since this pearl had the function of invading universes, it probably subtly connected to that part to look for someone capable.
Completely mastering a primordial chaos item? Not even the queen could do it, so mortals wouldn’t be able to either.
The pearl only allowed mortals to use its power to create things, not to dominate it. It was like the legends of genies from lamps granting wishes... come to think of it, maybe this pearl inspired someone to create that legend.
The goal was to find someone with potential. But... someone actually managed to completely master the item and became its owner. With that terrifying event, the Heaven’s Will had no doubts and bet everything on him.
It did the same thing it had done with Almin: it planted a seed in his soul so that one day, he would become a missionary.
The difference was that it still had a bit of power to help that happen faster. So it used something within the rules of the heavenly laws, utilizing reincarnation that nourished souls so the seed could grow.
Alm and Bruno sighed. In the end, becoming missionaries and everything that happened wasn’t mere coincidence. They also recalled the feeling they had when they saw half of the cauldron in the past. At some point, they had been the owners of a primordial chaos item—that was why it felt so familiar. However, they had lost all memories of it, leaving behind only a strange, instinctive déjà vu. (Chapter 838)
It wasn’t that the Heaven’s Will felt pity when they were killed by their own father and turned them into missionaries. They earned it by doing something completely unexpected. They were just mortals who had lived a few decades, yet they managed to master that item.
While Alm and Bruno reflected, that figure turned his gaze toward Meru and Ruri. The two looked at him curiously. They didn’t know the whole story, but they knew who that will belonged to.
Faced with their curious stares, the man immediately averted his gaze, visibly uncomfortable. The two were no longer in disguise, and being pierced by their curious eyes was too much for someone without social aptitude.
Both of them saw his reaction and laughed, finding it cute. It was a new side to the figure they knew well, one they had never seen before. He was always unshakable. Sure, Ruri had affected him a few times, but seeing him embarrassed was unique.
He focused on the whale and murmured, "In the end, I didn’t become a monster. I turned into someone... acceptable, even with this exaggerated body... and you’ve got two of them..."
"Their charm is indeed scary; but one of them is my daughter, you idiot," Alm cut in bluntly. "Don’t you see how equally beautiful and identical they are?"
The man’s eyes widened as he quickly glanced at Meru and Ruri. They stared back at him intently, and he looked away within a second, clearly flustered.
Thinking deeply, he reached a stunned conclusion: they were indeed alike, but Meru’s physique was on a completely different level… the connection with the whale was pretty obvious. Combined with their closeness to him, it was easy for someone to get the wrong idea.
Bruno broke the silence in a light tone: "Now that everything’s settled, I came to take the pearl..."
The man shook his head in refusal. "That’s going to be complicated. I don’t know what happened, but the heavenly laws of the entire world were destroyed..."
"Yeah, yeah, that was me. It was necessary. What exactly is the problem?" Alm asked directly.
The man nearly jumped, startled, then replied seriously, "After the destruction, I influenced the pearl to return to this universe quickly, but it didn’t behave as before. It went straight to this world’s laws and merged with them. I’m not exactly sure why, but it seems like an emergency measure from the original heavenly laws."
Alm and Bruno nodded, confirming their suspicions. The heavenly laws had this last emergency protocol for extreme cases. If destroyed, the items would merge with a universe’s broken laws to restore them quickly.
This was supposed to happen in a universe on the verge of being born since destroying the laws would wipe out all living beings.
The power of the items, once fused with broken laws, would completely influence life when it flourished, changing everything. With all life already starting from scratch under that influence, it could rapidly create strange outcomes. Perhaps it was a way to produce a creature capable of fighting the "virus" that had destroyed the heavenly laws.
There weren’t supposed to be living universes after such an event. So the items should wait for a new universe to be born and then enter. But Alm and Bruno’s actions had saved the universes from destruction; the pearl simply returned to this one, sensing life, and carried out its programmed function.
Once again, everything had been changed by their actions. Since this wasn’t a newly born universe, it wouldn’t take long before even more abnormal phenomena emerged among the people.
The man continued, "The problem is that the item’s essence has already been completely absorbed by the universe’s laws. They’ve become its foundation, and the pearl will never be the same again."
"Because of this, everyone who already had a part of that essence is now fully connected to it. If you simply destroy the laws, the essence will spread among them."
"And the pearl’s essence can’t be extracted without severely damaging their souls. In the end, the only way to remove the pearl’s power is by destroying the foundation of these laws and completely wiping out all the inhabitants of this universe to remove it from them."
