Duality of Shadows-Chapter 941: Birth
Alm and Bruno heard Ruri’s message and froze. The queen had really put in a lot of effort, and now, she was about to open the universe that the Behemoth was guarding.
"Anizu said all the heroes who were in the castle moved to the location. As for the regular immortals, they were ordered to stay in the castle on high alert," Ruri informed again. Then, her voice became anxious: "Master, her domain was activated after she said all that!"
They snorted; it was expected. Without delay, they activated their celestial souls within, completely sealing the queen’s power. Any hero nearby would have noticed, but now they were all gone, so it wasn’t a problem.
With the heroes absent, it seemed like a golden opportunity for them, but the reason behind it was terrifying.
"Damn... we have no choice. We have to act now. Maybe it’ll draw the queen’s attention and she’ll come back," Bruno said, thinking quickly.
Alm countered: "If we do it this way, we’ll be surrounded and killed by her later. Even if we manage to escape, we’ll be identified, and we can’t return to the queen’s universe. All our allies there will be killed."
They were in a critical situation, with no time to form a solid plan before, and now with very few options available.
"Ruri, activate your domain in the castle formation and bring Anizu to Isla’s room, where I am," Alm ordered through the array.
By luck or fate, they were in her room when the movement began outside. The dwarf and Isla hadn’t clearly noticed the changes, so they didn’t react. They weren’t part of the queen’s combat servants and hadn’t received orders.
However, when Ruri activated her runes, infiltrated the formation, and took control of almost the entire castle, a critical alert was quickly issued.
The dwarf’s eyes widened, he grabbed his tablet, and after reading the emergency information, he was shocked. Turning to the round golem, it was then that Ruri and Anizu appeared in the room.
Ruri was serious and stared at the two. Alm and Bruno had no time to waste and stepped forward.
"I’ll be brief and direct. We are the invaders. I came to this place, and one of my objectives is to rescue you two."
The two widened their eyes, staring at the golem speechlessly. He continued seriously: "You are not who you think you are. I know you better than you think, and I want to save you. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to explain now."
The dwarf squinted, but Isla, standing next to him, looked at the golem, then at Ruri, whose eyes expressed genuine concern. Without hesitation, Isla took a deep breath and said, "Alright, I trust you. What do you intend to do?"
"I will kill you," the golem said dryly.
At that moment, both jumped, and the dwarf stepped in front of Isla, facing the golem coldly.
The golem sighed and explained seriously: "This is necessary. I can’t give many details right now, but the person who captured you is the same one who made you suffer for so long. Did you forget everything you went through before they appeared? Didn’t you notice that they have a very similar problem to yours?"
The dwarf froze; something inside him shifted. He knew that Isla’s soul was strangely similar to his, but the queen’s domain prevented him from imagining any irregularity or investigating further. His mind had been clouded by her mental domain. However, now, the celestial soul within him nullified that.
"I need to kill you and take your souls with me. Then, I will heal you and give you the chance to start over."
The dwarf clenched his fists, thoughtful. Alm and Bruno were confused, but Ruri intervened: "Don’t worry. I guarantee you two will stay close to each other. I’m sure you’ll get along again."
The dwarf could finally reflect and realize everything that was wrong. He understood why he had suffered so much in the past. Just imagining that the woman behind him was similar terrified him. However, the figure in front of him promised to heal him. Was that possible? Why would they do that?
"I accept," Isla said without hesitation.
She looked at the golem and smiled slightly, instinctively feeling like she had known him for a long time. Then, she turned to Ruri, feeling like they were very similar. It was almost like looking at her own reflection or a close relative who thought and acted similarly.
The dwarf sighed as he looked at her. He had many doubts, but he trusted her and his intuition.
The discussion lasted only a minute, but Alm and Bruno already felt the imminent danger. Obviously, everyone in the castle knew where the invader was after Ruri used the formation. She raised barriers, but they were being removed quickly.
"Do it," the dwarf said, staring at the golem.
Bruno looked at Isla, who waved at him, her gaze serene. The image of Isla they knew seemed to blend with her. With a heavy sigh, they activated their souls within both of them, and they both collapsed.
They approached Isla, focused, and broke the soul fragment that connected her to the abomination, separating it. After placing only her fragment in the inventory, the celestial laws began to take all the other remaining fragments.
When they turned to the dwarf to repeat the process, they noticed a difference. A third of the soul fragments in him were human, and that part had completely fused with his soul. It was as if it had become permanently part of him.
He had been transformed millennia ago, probably right after that devastating battle. Surely, the queen had made him reincarnate several times in that place until he adapted to the situation.
He lived many lives of suffering, and after so much time in this condition, he learned to live like that, adapting to the human souls united to him, as they were the closest. His torment came from the others connected to him.
Alm and Bruno thought quickly and decided to remove all the soul fragments from the dwarf that were not adapted, preserving only those that had already become part of him. After that, they stored him in the inventory as well.
Ruri sighed as she sensed that people were getting very close to invading the room. Despite that, a great joy filled her heart. They had managed to save those two; now, only Almin and Lyra remained.
With this step completed, Alm and Bruno needed to decide on the next move. Ruri knew where the two necessary items were, but trying to obtain them would certainly alert God Gaia, and a fierce battle would be inevitable.
Eliminating Gaia was part of the mission, as well as recovering the two items. However, the goal now went beyond simply completing the task: they had to find a way to save the people of that universe.
They turned to Anizu and asked, "Has the queen already opened the place?"
"I don’t think so," she replied. "She summoned the heroes, and I saw all of them taking many resources from the castle’s treasure. They’re probably going to raise the Immortal Heroic Formation. Then, the queen called them before opening the place, so they could prepare everything and secure it."
They nodded. The queen had the habit of acting with extreme caution. If she had done it another way, they might have never discovered it in time. Now, however, with thousands of immortal heroes involved, they might have a few hours to react before everything was finalized.
’What can we do...’ Bruno thought quickly. ’The only way would be to return to that universe... but we can’t even do that now. We don’t have enough points to use the miracle.’
’We need to ensure that the Behemoth can keep the place sealed before she invades,’ Alm said firmly.
In the past, the Behemoth had used all the celestial power of his body and merged his soul with the laws of that universe to seal it. The celestial power was what made this possible, but against the queen, it had still been insufficient.
Alm thought of something and asked Ruri, "You told Yinou about that universe, right?"
Ruri nodded.
"This primordial sun here... is it compatible with the primordial power of the beasts?"
Ruri remained silent for a few seconds, until she received an answer and spoke:
"Yinou said yes. The primordial sun of this place is made of primordial power. If the Behemoth had this sun, it could reinforce that universe. Not even the queen could open it so quickly... but even so, it probably wouldn’t last long. Maybe he could hold it for five years, at best."
Alm and Bruno sighed. It was better than nothing. Putting the sun in the inventory would be simple; the problem would come later, with the battle against Gaia and the immortals of that place. However, the real dilemma was how to bring the sun to that universe.
They checked the available miracles. They had 270 celestial points, but the Space-Time Miracle cost 810, after they had recently used it to get to the planet.
Ruri and Rehvka had previously transported planets to that place. However, that only worked with low-level planets that didn’t attract attention, and it had been done when the queen was focused on opening the place.
Now, the queen was fully focused, with numerous heroes by her side surrounding the place. Nothing would go unnoticed by her and enter the universe. There was little time after they killed Gaia and took the sun. She would immediately know it had happened and be even more on alert.
Using the celestial miracle seemed to be the only viable solution. It operated with celestial laws, and even if the queen noticed, she wouldn’t be able to do much to interfere.
Alm and Bruno’s minds worked at an incredible speed until they glimpsed a solution, or rather, a gamble.
’We can only rely on the unknown power, about which we know almost nothing,’ murmured Bruno.
Alm agreed. The Tree of Chaos had been essential in getting them to this planet. It contained a part of the will of the heavens, just like the items of Primordial Chaos. That made them believe it was almost a tenth item.
’Caipora mentioned that the oracle was part of the will of the heavens and was captured by the queen. Maybe...’ Alm thought coldly. ’This tree seems to be absorbing important things for her and growing in power. We also need to deal with this oracle. Why not try to absorb it with the tree?’
Bruno had the same thought, and the two decided to try. As soon as they did, a green screen appeared in front of them:
[Optional Mission Received!]
