Uriel was greatly impressed with the fighting prowess Phlox demonstrated on the arena. She moved fast, effectively and made up for her lack of power with the combat techniques she had learned in the army. She defeated her enemies one after the other without showing any signs of being tired, but things quickly changed when she faced the first ascended on the ladder.

Her opponent was fat, not bulky, he just had a protruding belly that somewhat reminded Uriel of Pangeotis’ round belly. Being out of shape wasn’t that rare, even for hunters, but being fat was an entirely different matter. Once someone acquired a trait, their energy expense became much higher depending on their rank and trait.

Uriel himself once passed out because he didn’t change his diet after becoming an ascended, so he knew how rare it was to see a fat ascended and he guessed it had to be related to his trait. Unfortunately for phlox, she didn’t think things through.

"Nice rack..." The man taunted prompting the hot headed ex military woman to bash at him with all she had, but not before activating her trait. Her hair and eyes shone in the bright color that gave her her nickname, boosting her physical prowess.

She darted forward leaving behind a neon trail and hit the man using her body weight, but when she wanted to notice, her back was on the ground and the man had a foot on her and both hands raised in victory.

"No way! He cheated!"

"No, he didn’t." Uriel replied. It was fast even for him, but he noticed the man let out an immense amount of flux energy for a glimpse of a second. The energy expenditure was so great, the man even lost some weight in a match that lasted less than five seconds.

"How do you know?" The skinny man asked.

"Yeah, it’s not like you’re a hunter!" The bald man laughed and patted Uriel on the back.

At that precise moment a woman wearing reavealing clothes walked directly towards them carrying the winnings of those who placed a bet.

"Jackpot!" The skinny man cheered as he received twice the amount he bet.

"Hey, Miss, my friend here also placed a bet, why didn’t you bring it over?" The bald man, who noticed when Uriel placed his bet, asked the woman.

"I’m sorry, but your friend will have to cash it out in person. Please, follow me."

"What!?" Both men exclaimed, knowing that something like that only happened to big spenders.

The three men were taken to a room where a hostess was ready to serve them alcohol and food to their liking. Both men rushed to the table, to eat, drink and save whatever they could for later while Uriel remained standing still.

"You, how, why, what..." They tried to ask questions with their mouths stuffed and Uriel replied with just a chuckle, though the hostess was clearly disgusted by the men.

She was a recent hire and lacked the manners of the more experienced staff. She made absolutely no effort to hide how disgusted she felt by those three slum dwellers who were dressed in rags and smelled like they didn’t know what a shower was. However, she still served them alcohol and that was all Uriel’s new friends needed from her.

It took a couple minutes, but eventually the woman in charge for handing the winnings came back with a bag filled with 100 credit bills. Just as the skinny man said before, Uriel almost doubled his money in a single night and when the hostess saw the money, her demeanor shifted immediately.

"Mister, you really made it big didn’t you? Why don’t you have a drink with me to celebrate?" The woman said as she undid a button on her blouse.

"Excuse me, is it possible to meet the fighters?" Uriel asked the other woman, completely ignoring the hostess.

"It is possible, but only if they want. Leaving a tip usually helps them get in the mood for visitors."

"Then ask Lady Phlox to come here, please."

"Oh, you want to see her? I’m sorry, but she stated beforehand that she doesn’t want visitors, let alone come herself here."

"Then send her this..." Uriel said as he handed everything but his original 50k to the woman leaving everyone in the room slack jawed.

"Why would you do that!? It’s the same as throwing the money away!" The skinny man cried.

"That was your ticket out of the slums!" The bald man cried too and they hugged each other.

"Don’t worry, I can afford it." Uriel replied trying to calm them down, though in reality those 50k were almost all he had. He had a lot of flux orbs thanks to the nights he spent hunting, but since he couldn’t so much as show his face on the Cryptid hunting agency he was unable to sell them.

That was precisely the reason why he needed Phlox to come, because he wanted to ask her for help in selling them.

"Who’s the big shot who sent me this money? This won’t even get you a blowjob so don’t get your hopes up."

"Miss Phlox!" Uriel yelped in embarrassment.

"Boss? On second thought..."

"Stop messing around!" Uriel blushed up in bright red. Phlox then sat on the table with an amused expression and grabbed a beer.

"This beer tastes like piss, but it’s good to see you again boss." She let out a sigh.

"Don’t call me that, I’m not your boss if I can’t even afford to pay your salary," Uriel sat besides her with a dejected expression on his face, but then composed himself and continued. "I won’t ask you what are you doing here since it’s most likely my fault..."

"Nope, I had a falling out with you know who."

"Huh?"

"Dragonfang!"

"What did she do this time?"

"That’s a story for another time. More Importantly, I don’t think you sent me all this cash without something in mind, maybe you finally realized I’m the one for you."

"Actually..."
