Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 375: Taken Part 1
As soon as the skinwalker adopted Medusa’s form he spat a threat he thought would make the hunter’s knees buckle, but the effect his words carried were very different from what it expected. More than instilling fear, Uriel became angry, maybe angrier than he’d ever been. The cryptid had no way of knowing it, even if it adopted Medusa’s form, accessing her memories would still take some time.
Uriel gritted his teeth as his face became red in seething anger as he gazed at the skinwalker impersonating a Medusa, not for the fact that it dared mimic her but because she was wounded. That meant that when the cryptid got its hands on her skin, she was in that state.
"Where is she!?" Uriel roared, completely ignoring the hunters behind him.
"Who? Oh, this skinsuit? Why? Do you fancy her?" The skinwalker chuckled and touched itself to tease Uriel. It was one of the many tricks the skinwalker had up its sleeve, but it also didn’t have the effect it expected.
"I asked you a question, if you answer truthfully I may consider killing you quickly." Uriel warned.
"You? Killing me quickly? How about I kill you instead?" The cryptid said before jumping towards Uriel with the intention to kill him in a swift move, but Uriel dodged the kick without even activating his trait. It was, after all, Medusa’s signature fight starter and he knew it like the palm of his hand.
The cryptid followed with a flurry of high kicks, faints and all sort of martial moves Uriel dodged without issue.
"You’re not nearly as fast as her," He said, then blocked a punch with a single hand and countered with a low kick without letting go. "You’re not as strong as her either."
A fight between an ascended hunter and an entity rank cryptid was bound to be one sided, but it was supposed to be the other way around. The hunters witnessing the fight couldn’t believe their eyes as they saw how Uriel blocked, dodged and countered every move the cryptid attempted.
"Are you sure he’s an ascended?" Aster asked, but the man Truesight brought with him replied with another question.
"Are you sure his trait isn’t clairvoyance? He’s anticipating everything and countering effortlessly."
"I have no clue, Sir. Heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if that guy turned out to be a cryptid too." Truesight replied with a gaping mouth.
The cryptid tried each and every trick it knew, but to no avail. Uriel continued beating it mercilessly and although the cryptid was able to regenerate from any wound, the pain and the humiliation was too much to bear and it decided to shift into Uriel after managing to graze his skin out of sheer luck.
"Let’s see how you do against yourself." The cryptid said in Uriel’s body, thinking he had to be way stronger than Medusa. However, nothing could be further away from the truth.
As soon as the skinwalker adopted Uriel’s shape, the beating became even more gruesome. Uriel had absolutely no issues about attacking someone looking like him, in fact, he thought it to be therapeutic. He didn’t believe in any higher power, fate or luck, thus he blamed himself for all of his failures and kicking his own ass felt like justice. Find adventures at novelbuddy
"How can this be? You’re weaker than that woman! How did you defeat me?" The cryptid said trying to recover his breath. Of course it wouldn’t match Uriel’s prowess just by mimicking his body since a great deal of his power came not from his physical shape, but by the bonus granted by his artifacts to which the cryptid had no access.
"This is going to be the last time I ask, where is she?" Uriel asked in a calm manner, which somehow was even more terrifying for the cryptid.

"Mother... she has many skinsuits. This is our district and hunters aren’t welcome here." The cryptid replied only to win some time.
"This is bullshit! You said those things died when they come in contact with silver, I’ll take care of it." Truesight rushed towards the skinwalker with a silver coin. As an ascended, killing an entity rank cryptid was bound to earn him a lot of recognition and the flux orb could be sold for a lot of money, not to mention he would earn some brownie points with his superior.
However, before the veteran ranger came even close to the skinwalker Uriel threw the clay figurine on his path and the Jaguar spirit appeared with a thunderous roar.
"Stay out of this." Uriel glared at his instructor, leaving him frozen in fear but the short distraction was all the skinwalker needed to stab Uriel with its uncanny black claws. It pierced through Uriel’s stomach, blood trickled down to the ground and the cryptid grinned victoriously.
"I got you." The cryptid’s maw became wide as that of a snake, drool already dripping down in anticipation of the tasty meal it would have. But it didn’t count with the months Uriel spent honing his resistance to pain.
Instead of falling on his knees, all Uriel did was turn back at the cryptid and glare at it causing an effect much similar to Medusa’s trait, only flux energy wasn’t involved in any manner. It was pure hatred and spite, all comprised in a single murderous glare.
"Where were we?" Uriel said.
After a long fight that seemed more like a torture session, Uriel exacted all the information he needed from the cryptid and then some more. Thanks to the jaguar spirit, the rest of the rangers were unable to participate in any way or even come close and they were forced to watch with their arms crossed.
In the end, Uriel had no need for the silver coin because during the ’fight’ the cryptid’s flux orb was exposed and as soon as Uriel grabbed it, the cryptid died in agony. It was Uriel extracted a flux orb from a living cryptid, but he was glad to learn that it was an effective method of killing them.
"I have something to take care of." Uriel said as he mounted on top of the jaguar and disappeared into the night.
"Did we just met... Raider?" Aster blinked a couple times in disbelief.
