Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 383: Skinsuit
"I know you're the real one. But all of this is your fault! Not even a doppelganger would be as stupid as to impersonate an enemy and call for everyone's attention. You were supposed to be stealthy!"
"It was the only way I thought to being able to keep an eye on that thing." Nika pointed at the doppelganger playing dead at her feet and then kicked it.
"Hey! I'm on your side, remember?" Nika's copy attempted to stand up, only to be thrown in the ground again by the real Nika.
"You say that, but we all know you'll turn on us as soon as it suits you." Uriel scoffed.
"You know that's racist, just because I'm a doppelganger it doesn't mean I'm necessarily a bad person." The hybrid replied offended.
"No, but the person you're mimicking is." Uriel glared at Nika, thinking of ways to punish her.
"That's fair, I should take my real form then." As soon as the hybrid said those words his body and appearance shifted into that of a young girl who was obviously from the slums.
"Is that really your true form?" Uriel lifted an eyebrow in suspicion.
"Yes, contrary to skinwalkers, we can't store skinsuits. I didn't want to become like this, they tricked me into becoming a doppelganger by saying they would help me get a trait."
"Who did?" Uriel questioned.
"Does it make a difference? They were all doppelgangers, their true identity doesn't exist anymore. Anyway, I'll keep my word and help you guys escape..."
"Does it look like we need to escape?" Nika pointed at the many flux orb on the ground. "we need to open the reinforced door you were guarding." Nika exclaimed.
"That's going to be difficult, you'll see what I mean," The skinwalker led the group towards the reinforced door and the group immediately knew what she was talking about. The door was so massive and heavy, opening it was impossible even with a key. "Mother is the only one who can open it."
"It was to be expected from a horror level cryptid." Uriel muttered then whistled and Luna showed up immediately.
"Hey! Don't call my cute Luna like she's a dog!" Nika exclaimed in an angry voice.
"I don't see the problem, it's more effective than words and she can hear it from far away." Uriel shruged. Although Luna was still on her werewolf shape, it was obvious she wasn't bothered by that. In fact, she looked somewhat happy.
"Seeing a thing that size wag its tail like that is... disturbing." The long legged huntress whispered.
"Why are you even still here?" Nika glared at the woman who didn't have an answer.
"Do it Luna."
Luna placed her shoulder on the door and applied pressure slowly increasing the strength of her push to prevent the door from fallin over. At first, the door didn't budge and the doppelganger seemed relieved, but it wasn't long until the door began moving and she began sweating buckets. Not even a heavenly rank should have been able to open the door, but Luna did it so effortlessly.
It wasn't her power what scared her, though, but the fact that she helped the enemy enter the same place she had been guarding.
"No way!"
"Smile at the camera." Uriel said with an evil grin.
"No way! Why did you do that!?"
"I wonder what would happen to you if 'mother' finds out you helped us. I've met her before and I know how much she loves her rules. You can go now."
"Hey, Uriel, are you really letting that thing go? It can mimick me and who knows what kind of trouble it could cause."
"She's a hybrid just like Luna, but this was done to her against her will. She's not at fault for being who she is, besides, now that we have evidence that she helped us she won't be able to tell anyone about us."
"Uhm... I think we should have killed her." Luna said.
"Get dressed, you pervert!" Uriel said, with his eyes closed, as he handed Luna a yellow summer dress, which was the first thing her size he found on his souvenir shop.
"Thanks..."
The group stood up for a few seconds in front of the dark hallway revealed after the obstacle was removed, knowing that they accomplished their goal but fearing it might have been for nothing. Uriel's theory that there were skinwalkers infiltrated in the ladder was proven correct, but there many different possibilities.
Medusa could be imprisoned somewhere else, she could even be dead for all they knew, and crossing that door meant they would find out the truth.
But Uriel hadn't gone through all that trouble just to stare at an open door and he readied himself to enter that place. However, just before he took the first step a heavy object bashed at him with force.
"Everyone, run now!" Medusa shouted and many hunters followed in a stampede. Contrary to their expectations, they didn't stop them from running away.
"I should have seen this coming." Said Uriel with a smile as he was being pinned down on the ground by Medusa.
"Don't try to trick me, I know you're a skinwalker!" She lifted her fist, but Mary butted in.
"Miss Medusa, they're letting them go, I think they're the real ones."
"The... real?" Medusa echoed.
"Yes..." Uriel nodded from his awkward position.
Medusa's eyes became teary and her limbs trembled as a smile formed on his face and then, she slapped him.
"Why did you do that?"
"All of this is your fault!" Medusa screamed without letting him go. "If you weren't a jerk we wouldn't have broken up, the impostor wouldn't have made it to our apartment and none of this would have happened." She then dropped her head on his chest and began sobbing.
During her imprisonment she showed an iron will. She rallied all the prisoners and even managed to free everyone from their chains, all witout ever complaining or showing any signs of weakness. To Mary, Medusa was the epitome of strength and determination, but now she was just a woman crying sobbing on a man's chest.
