Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 425 : Troublemakers Part 4
"That's no way to treat a lady!" Nika shouted as soon as Uriel came back to camp, still dragging Mayhem by the hair, but Uriel paid no heed to her words and instead replied.
"Wait for your turn, this all happened because you let her go alone to do stupid things. When this is all over I'll make sure you won't be able to sit for a while."
"Promises, promises..." Nika replied trying to seem unfazed, though by the look on his eyes she knew he meant it, though she didn't know whether to be scared or excited.
Needless to say, there was a reason why Uriel was so annoyed. It was that even though the trip had been safe so far, he had a gut feeling that things would soon take a turn for the worst. There were no powerful energy signatures in their surroundings and all the evidence pointed to the contrary, but after becoming a hunter he learned not to ignore his instincts.
All of that was made even worse by the fact that Cassandra decided to bring a bunch of worthless people along with them, forcing him to play babysitter to adults.
"Hey! What are you doing to my daughter!?" Young covered her mouth at the pítiful sight of Mayhem.
"I'm okay... somehow this doesn't hurt as much as it seems."
"It's because you're probably on the verge of becoming an ascended." Uriel explained as he let go of Mayhem, causing her to fall face first into the ground.
"I am!?" Mayhem briefly lifted her face, but the rest of her body remained paralyzed.
"How can you be so cruel to a human being? I get that you wanted to discipline her, but you went too far this time." Young rushed in to check her daughter's condition.
"I didn't do this, in fact, if I hadn't showed up your daughter would be dead by now. For some reason I still can't understand, she decided to play best friends with a tejuino and got stung. Don't worry, she'll be fine in like half an hour, maybe less." Uriel explained without mentioning how did he know about tejuino venom, since that meant telling them he also committed the same mistake Mayhem did.
"But... you were dragging her by the hair how can you explain that? Huh?"
"She doesn't mind and I wasn't willing to carry her since she's so filthy." He said as he looked down at Mayhem who was stil covered in mud.
"I don't mind, but keep talking dirty to me and I won't respond." Needless to say, her poor attempt at flirting had absolutely no effect on Uriel and he quickly went back to his tent.

"I know you're in there, Nika, come out."
"Is it my turn now?" She whispered in a seductive tone of voice as she came out of his shadow.
"Can you explain me why the hell did you let her go?"
"She didn't mean any harm and just wanted to play a prank on you."
"I know, but what got you thinking something like that was a good idea?"
"You've been acting weird lately and I thought maybe you could use some fun." Nika kept her gaze down, not because she regretted her actions but because she was worried about him.
"Sam pretty much took our city, we crashed in the middle of nowhere, our friends might be in danger and Mister Scofield walked directly into a trap. Tell me, does it sound like this is a good time to waste time on stupid pranks?"
"Okay, I get it. I made a mistake, but I..."
"You still don't get it. This place is dangerous, I can't begin to describe how strong the rougarou was, but that's not all. After clearing the letieche dungeon..."
"When did you do that!?" Nika asked, more hurt than curious. Ever since she became his assistant, Uriel had made sure to keep her up to date with things and now he was again keeping secrets from her.
"That's besides the point, the important thing is that after clearing that dungeon my instincts are telling me something's off but I can't say exactly what it is. What if there's something dangerous nearby and someone gets killed?"
"Why do you care anyway? It's not like they mean anything to you, am I wrong?"
"I don't care particularly about any of them, but they agreed to come on this mission to help us. Even if all they're doing is slowling us down, we can't let them die!"
"Geez! Luna always says you have a flair for the dramatic, but this is the first time I see why."
At that moment, Uriel finally realized someting. He wasn't annoyed just for the so called troublemakers, Nika's attitude had been bothering him for a long time and he had failed to address it properly. Being such an easygoing person was fine, great even, but not if that meant that she really did not care.
With so much on the line, Uriel couldn't afford to simply not care. He wished he could go back to the old days when everything was simple and all he wanted was to become an archaeologist. Now he was investigatinc actual mysteries with roots that went far deeper than anyhing he could have miagined when he first theorized about the existence of a primordial language, but it was too much for him.
At the old mansion, right on top of the letieche dungeon, Uriel found a few articles that told the story of that place. But that wasn't all, he thought he found what could have been the first actual clue to unravel the mystery of the arrival, but it was too much for him alone.
That's why he wanted to go back as soon as he could, to ask Luna for help and dive face first into the mysteries that linked both archaeology and cryptozoology.
"What the hell did you do to mayhem!?" Cassandra asked in a loud voice as she entered into Uriel's tent without so much as calling.
"Not now, Cass... Hmm... Colonel Sword," Uriel corrected himself since, on paper, this was Cassandra's mission. "It was punishment for reckless behavior. Was I wrong?"
"Physical punishment? And it worked?"
"What do you mean it worked?"
"She not only took back the complaint against you, she also volunteered to take the first watch tonight. Also, how did she turn into an ascended? We haven't killed any cryptids in the vicinity. Whatever you did, do the same to the other two and I'll make sure to pay you handsomely. I'm not even joking, if you turn the three of them into ascended I'll make sure you're well compensated!"
"Is that so..." Uriel's messy thoughts slowly turned into a somewhat decent plan as his eyes glimmered.
