Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 791: Runaway heroes part 1
The demonic creature had become trapped in its own dimension where it was supposedly impervious to damage, though it soon realized that didn't apply to the artifact jabbed in its leg. The pain caused by the small object lunged within its flesh was easy to shrug off at first, but the crimson dagger's ability soon showed its ugly side by draining the creature's flux energy and life essence.
Without anyone triggering its ability, the demon was left with two choices. It could either materialize completely and be obliterated by Uriel who had now become stronger or to not materialize at all slowly fading into nothingness. When Uriel reached the limit of how much flux energy his body could hold, a third option became available and the demon didn't hesitate to use it.
"I will not forget this!" The cryptid bellowed as it scurried away taking the chance that Uriel was too focused on venting as much flux as he could to preserve his life.
"That's fucking annoying!" Uriel growled as he stretched his arms before testing his physical prowess. "just when I was ready to have some fun."
"You don't need to swear, also... I'm unsure if we could have actually defeated it. The short time we stood in the rain washed away most of the holy water we use on our weapons." Luna said.
"You can come out now, it's safe." Uriel said to his shadow from where Nika crawled up and composed herself. Her shoulder remained injured, but now she too was fully charged with flux energy thanks to Uriel sharing his reserve with her and the wound on her shoulder didn't look as grim as it appeared to be before. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"What caused you to swear so much?" Luna glared at Nika, who at that moment was checking up on Alfaro's corpse.
"We are in trouble." Nika said, a pained grimace on her face though it was mostly due to the loss of the meteorologist.
"Don't worry about it, I gave that thing a run for its money." Uriel grinned.
"It was just luck." Luna nonchalantly stated.
"You're free to say that when you defeat a demon, but I won't let that take my victory away." Uriel scoffed offended by Luna's comment.
"It's not that, the reason why I got so flustered is because while I was sending out warnings due to the weather, someone picked up the transmission and thought we were asking for rescue. They said they were close and will arrive at any minute now." Nika said, her voice becoming thinner as she spoke.
"You did tell them to go screw themselves, right? I'm not paying up for a rescue we didn't need in the first place." Uriel snarled.
"I tried, but they cut communications without acknowledging my message."
"Well, it's not so bad. We can still explain the situation or blame it on someone else." Uriel let out a relieved sigh, though Nika's guilt ridden face didn't shift.
"Actually... I did identify myself and they know Alfaro was with me. If they come here they'll think we murdered him or something. They may even think we were the ones responsible for the strange climate, which would suck because according to Alfaro this storm could have caused some serious damage already." Nika explained.
"I see. But we can still explain things..." Uriel grabbed Alfaro's notes and tried to make sense of them, but despite all the information he needed being directly in front of his eyes, to Uriel it was akin to reading a foreign language.
"We can't ask him to translate this mumbo jumbo either." Nika said, directing yet another regretful gaze to the corpse besides them.
"Hand it over, science is my second language." Luna grabbed the notepad and skimmed through it with the reading speed only she could achieve and then let out a sigh.
"And?" Both Uriel and Nika asked with expectant eyes.
"Let's run away." Luna replied.
It felt unfair that after saving the many guests that remained at the monastery and probably countless lives in Sevilla by driving away the demon that caused the storm, they had to run away with their hands empty.
Uriel was particularly unamused about the fact that he didn't even get his hands on the horror level flux orb he felt he deserved and thus they set off into the wild before the storm even passed completely.
The heavy rain and powerful wind could have likely proven to be much to travel, even for experienced hunters such as them, since they were foreign to those lands and didn't know the way. However, this didn't affect their steeds as both the Jaguar spirit and Babieca, the cryptid horse, were able to pierce through the harshest weather unaffected.
Blue flames erupted from the Jaguar's loin as Uriel channeled an extra amount of flux energy and the large feline relished in it.
"Good boy." Uriel patted the jaguar on the shoulder bones where the ghostly blue flames came from, yet they didn't hurt him.
"I thought this wouldn't be the case, but... I'm still jealous. Do you want to trade?" Luna shamelessly proposed.
"As if." Uriel scoffed and continued on their way.
Now that he was brimming with flux energy, Uriel had more than enough to spare on keeping the summon of his Jaguar active, but that wasn't the case for Luna who could only keep up with Babieca's consumption until they reached a city by the name Cordoba.
At a distance it seemed as everything was normal, especially after the supernatural storm subsided, though as soon as they stepped in they realized something was off about the city.
The buildings were intact if not well maintained, there were green gardens with greens and fruit bearing trees, flowers in the pots and there were signs that hinted of a pretty busy economy. The streets were in perfect condition and there was nothing strange about the sight of the city itself, with the sole exception of something missing.
"Where's all the people?" Uriel let out when he noticed not a single person could be seen in such a beautiful city that should have been brimming with activity.
"Maybe they evacuated due to the storm." Luna pointed out despite being unconvinced.
Had Nika been there, she could have provided some insight about the strange phenomenon, but she remained in Uriel's trait trying to recuperate from the gruesome wounds she had received. Without anything else to go by, Luna decided that even if there weren't any humans around, they still needed shelter and food and headed to a bakery guided by her nose.
She bashed the door open, smiled at the sight of the baked goods in display behind the counter and without missing a beat stuffed her mouth with whatever she could find. Enthralled by the sugary rush, she carried on with her feeding frenzy until the unmistakable sound of a shotgun being cocked stopped her in her tracks.
"Stop right there you burglars! Keep your hands up until the authorities show up." Said a womanly voice behind Luna as she pointed the metal barrel to the back of her head.
Luna didn't know what kind of weapon it was, but hunter or not, a shotgun shell point blank at the back of the head was more than she could probably take and she meekly did as she was told.
"Mhm mmm, mhm!" Luna fumbled, her mouth too dry with the pastries to speak properly.
"I can't understand you, just stay quiet!" The woman grunted as she gave a nudge with the shotgun.
"She says the pastries were delicious and we can pay for them and for the door. She also says she needs water." Uriel translated the seemingly unintelligible words Luna couldn't utter.
"Mhm." Luna nodded slowly, sweat trickling down her forehead. Not so much for the firearm pointed at her, but her being caught doing something bad flustered her more than she could take. Just that day she had sworn like a road rager and now she technically became a thief, both things that Cassandra told her to always avoid.
"If you have the money, then why did you break in? Huh?" The woman decided to point her shotgun towards Uriel, since compared to Luna he seemed way more menacing.
"We thought this city was abandoned." Uriel replied dismissively then added. "there was no one outside."
"Abandoned? Everyone knows it's nap time." The angry woman replied.
"I could dig that." Uriel let out a chuckle that soon died down. His demeanor shifted and he begged the woman to lower her gun, but that came to happen one second too late.
Despite her flux deprivation, Luna couldn't hold on her transformation any longer as the entire situation was too stressful for her to handle. One second she was on the verge of crying, then the next she had turned into a hulking monster that knocked the woman unconscious with nothing but a shove.
Then, the silvery lycanthrope broke into a mad fury turning everything she could reach into a mess., even the freshly baked pastries which informed Uriel that she had completely lost control and before he could react, she had already disappeared into the empty streets of the city of Cordoba.
