Echoes of the Wild: Tales of a Beast Tamer-Chapter 22: First Fight (1)

(Chris's PoV)

I woke up early in the morning, did my daily activities and did a little exercise to keep my body healthy. Even though I am awakened, exercises are still useful. Sure higher rank Beast Tamers need not do those and still be healthy, but I learned that having discipline in life would propel you higher.

So, even though the use of these exercises may become moot in the future, I think I am going to do these exercises every morning. They only take half an hour. So doing exercises every morning wouldn't consume much of my time anyway.

So, I made sure that I did them every morning and I would continue to do so in the future unless there is an emergency.

As usual, I ate my breakfast and so did my lazy-ass pet.

After that, I sent her back to the Beast Space, where she continued to sleep as usual. Well, there is nothing to do there anyway, except sleep for any pet. It is the reason why I sent her back there as she would be sleeping no matter where she is, unless it's time to eat.

Moreover, I need to go to school.

Though there was no need to attend school, it was advised to check in every few days to check the progress. Teachers, though they are not well versed, would still be useful to learn a few things here and there.

Not all students hail from Beast Tamer families and if that is the case not all can afford the time or resources to personally teach their children or hire some personal trainers.

This is why many students return to school occasionally and so do I.

Getting some guidance from teachers would help us better in growing our pets properly. I mean, if there are any mistakes in the foundations, then the growth of the pet would be severely hampered, which would indirectly hamper the growth of the Beast Tamer.

So, it is best not to make any mistakes by thinking that we know everything. It's best to consult the teachers at the school and later at the academy.

"Students, I can feel that you have improved in the past few days. Many of you should have fed your pets the perfect food to reach higher levels but know this, reaching a higher level is not everything", Mrs. Hale said.

"You have to train your pet well or else someone who you may look down on as some inferior person because their level is below yours, could easily take you down, given the chance and without proper training, you had given them the chance".

"In order to not happen things like that, the school decided to have training sessions every day. One of you would fight another and that's it. The rest of the day it is for you to contemplate on what you did right and what you did wrong".

"You can easily understand where you lack and where to improve yourselves by watching other fights. It would be a good thing and so every year this would happen".

"You might be wondering why the school didn't inform you before. There is a reason for that. The ones that don't appear in school are either lazy or have a better environment to improve themselves. So there was no reason for the school to get themselves involved in such students. They wouldn't care either way".

"So, the impromptu announcement about these training sessions. Sure you would spread it to your friends later on and if they are interested then, they would come or not. It matters not. Now let's not any more time and start training".

"Follow me to the training ground", Mrs. Hale spoke and started walking. We followed her to the training grounds.

There is a choice for us but there is no way would I miss out on such a great opportunity like this.

I am not taking Snow to the wilds to hunt at this point. Doing so would be dangerous for both of us. If I had a partner, then I would have trained with them but everyone has their own plans on developing their pets.

So I can't ask others to act according to my plans.

The pets my family has are more powerful than Snow. Though they can control while fighting them, it would not be the same as fighting a pet of the same level. There would be a lot of difference in that.

Moreover, my family has jobs to do, so they can't waste their time on me.

So, these matches that the academy is organizing would be the best way for me and Snow to improve faster. No way I am going to miss such a god given chance.

I would practise as much as I can through these matches before I go out and hunt beasts outside.

Since my family is not exactly poor, there was no reason to take risks. only after I am sure that I will be alright, mostly, would I go out and start my hunt.

After we reached the training area, Mrs. Hale wrote our names on paper slips and threw them in a bowl. It's like allocating random matches and a simple way to do that.

She then pulled out two slips from the bowl.

"The first fight would be, Chris Argent vs John Hert", the teacher announced.

It looks like I am the first to fight. Let's see how Snow would do against the opponent. Whether she would fight or sleep, this would give an idea about how to plan for the future.

After my name was announced, I walked onto the ground and so did my opponent.
