Empire Building With Infinite Warehouse-Chapter 73: The Kaiju of District 5
Chris watched in terror as the colossal beast plummeted from the high rooftop.
The monster was aiming directly for Julien, its gigantic body falling fast enough to crush him into nothing but paste.
"Julien!" Chris shouted at the top of his lungs.
He planted his legs into the cracked street and threw his newly acquired Ruin Knight sword directly at the descending monster.
The blade spun through the air, aimed perfectly at the centre of the giant eye.
But the beast did not even blink. It simply tracked the spinning weapon and stopped the heavy blade dead in midair using its telekinetic force.
The sword hung suspended as the creature continued its deadly descent, its jaws opening wide enough to swallow a truck.
It’s horrific, mouth closed shut, swallowing Julien whole before slamming into the pavement with a bone-chilling thud.
Chris widened his bright blue eyes in shock.
"No!" he screamed, his voice breaking as he watched his friend disappear.
Kyle and the other surviving hunters watched the brutal scene unfold in complete fear.
The morale of the group instantly shattered as the merchant who just saved them was gone in the blink of an eye.
Then, the air pressure in the ruined street suddenly changed.
A weight settled over the entire block as small pieces of rock began to slowly lift off the ground, floating upward like gravity had simply stopped working.
"Wha... what is happening?" a hunter asked, his voice filled with panic as his feet slowly left the pavement.
The surviving hunters started floating into the air, unable to control their own movements.
Chris felt the unnatural pull grab hold of his body.
His blue aura began raging around him as he struggled against the invisible grip, but his raw strength was useless against the telekinetic hold.
He floated helplessly above the ruined street alongside Kyle and the remaining fighters.
The giant eye of the beast twitched.
The telekinetic hold violently reversed as the monster sent all of the floating hunters crashing down into the surrounding walls and buildings with brutal, uncontrollable force.
Several of the lower-tier hunters were hit so hard their bodies were squeezed and broken against the unforgiving concrete.
Kyle was thrown completely aside, crashing entirely through a nearby building and disappearing into a cloud of thick dust far away from the main fight.
Chris blacked out for a split second as the wave caught him in the chest.
He was sent flying backwards, crashing violently through three separate walls before his body finally slammed into a heavy concrete pillar.
He fell to the ground, surrounded by falling brick and glass.
No one could have ever predicted an area of effect attack that devastating.
The street was cleared in a matter of seconds.
But then, a subtle movement caught the eye of the monster.
A faint silhouette flickered back into existence directly beside the beast.
Julien stumbled forward, gasping for air as his boots hit the solid ground.
He had activated his Phantom Step ability at the very last possible second, phasing his body entirely through the physical attack just as the jaws snapped shut around him.
He had successfully escaped being swallowed alive, but the high-tier skill had drained his remaining mana.
He had no attacks left to land.
The giant eye of the beast slowly turned toward the exhausted merchant. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
The creature let out a low, rumbling growl as something began sprouting from its lower body.
Until now, the boss had been sliding across the ground like a massive slug, lacking any physical balance to stand upright.
But now, the dark flesh tore open at the base. A muscular leg grew rapidly from the bottom of its mass, slamming down into the pavement.
Another leg tore through the skin right after it, finding purchase in the ground.
The monster broke the road as it stood up on its new legs. Its height now matched the ruined Association building.
It stared right down at Julien, casting a heavy shadow that blocked out the sun.
The beast raised its massive foot, preparing to stomp the E Rank merchant into nothing but bloody dust.
Before the foot could land, a heavy, wrecked car flew out from the side street and smashed directly into the right side of the giant eye, exploding into a shower of twisted metal upon impact.
Julien did not wait to see what happened.
He immediately ran for cover, turning his head toward the side street to see who had thrown the car.
Chris stepped out from the settling dust.
The blonde tank was practically glowing.
His body was burning with a thick blue aura that shone wildly like an open fire.
His eyes were solid blue, lacking any pupils or white space.
He was under the heavy influence of a Berserker potion. Chris had saved the very last drops of the premium draft from his brutal arena fight against Kyle, and he had just downed the rest of it to survive the blast.
He was currently brimming with an overwhelming, unnatural amount of physical strength.
For the first time since the gates opened, Chris finally activated his own innate ability.
His hands started glowing with intense blue energy, the aura rapidly forming into solid, gauntlet-like structures over his fists.
He looked like an minion standing in front of the kaiju-sized boss, but the potion made him battle-crazed as he had run back to the fight with terrifying speed after being thrown through three buildings.
Julien spotted the Ruin Knight sword lying on the ground where the beast had dropped it.
He scooped the heavy blade up on his way over and tossed it straight back to Chris, following it up with a premium health potion from his inventory.
Chris caught the items effortlessly and drank the healing draft, locked his eyes on the monster, and gripped the hilt of the sword.
The heavy blade immediately brightened, glowing with the same volatile blue energy wrapping around his hands.
Julien stood beside his friend and let out a long, heavy sigh.
He pulled up his system interface.
There were no more tricks; his mana was empty, and his physical vessel was pushed to its absolute limit.
It was finally time to cash in the reward he had earned from his gruelling merchant work.
The surviving hunters from all over the district began slowly surrounding the beast, pulling themselves from the rubble.
They were bruised, bleeding, and entirely tired of getting ambushed by the boss.
Julien navigated to the Dimensional Contracts tab in his glowing system.
His mind raced as he quickly scrolled through the available options, trying to figure out exactly what beast to summon for this specific fight.
His eyes lingered on the Shadow beast summons for a brief second.
A Shadow beast would be incredibly strong and fast, but its physical attacks would not be very useful against a larger enemy like this.
Plus, the active time limit on Shadow contracts was far too short for a prolonged boss battle.
He needed something that could handle a large-scale threat and control the battlefield.
His eyes finally landed on a specific, terrifying name listed in the dark green text of the contract menu.
[Ash Weaver Spider]
Julien selected the creature and turned his head to look at the raging, aura-covered tank standing beside him.
"Chris," Julien called out over the creaking noise of the boss.
Chris did not look away from the giant eye, but he gave a slight nod to show he was listening.
"We have exactly eight minutes to finish this before the contract expires," Julien said, his voice deadly serious.
Chris nodded again.
He raised the glowing Ruin Knight sword, his muscles tensing as he prepared to launch himself directly at the towering monster.
Julien looked back at the glowing prompt floating in his vision.
He didn’t hesitate for another second as he reached out and tapped the final confirmation button.
[Summon.]
