EndGame: The Successor's Legacy-Chapter 31: Getting a cheat? -6
Calix cursed as he looked at the shattered metal remains of his sword.
Not giving him time to mourn for his sword, the Sliteren attacked Calix again. It lashed out with it’s rocky fangs pointed towards him moving with a unkempt grace that felt wrong for something so large.
Calix jumped.
The fangs snapped shut beneath him, missing his legs just by a hair’s breadth. While still in the air, he twisted his body and swung his arm forward.
An invisible slash tore through the space between them, aimed directly at the snake’s eye.
The Sliteren didn’t even flinch. Rather it just simply closed it’s eye. The attack dispersing uselessly against the thick stone armor covering its lids.
It’s armour protecting it from the harm.
His eyes narrowed as the realization set in. His attacks, his speed, his mana, his techniques of it could be called that were all being rendered meaningless.
Against this monster, finesse and sharpness were nothing more than jokes.
The Sliteren also didn’t give him time to think.
It pressed on brutal and relentlessly, its tail sweeping, its body twisting, forcing Calix to move again and again. Every dodge scraped more of his skin, every near miss drained more of his stamina.
The metallic tang of blood filled his mouth, bitter and heavy.
Then...
An idea formed.
A bad one.
A really bad one.
"Hm, would it work?" Calix thought as he flipped backward, narrowly avoiding another strike. "Meh... who cares. I’m dying anyway if I don’t do something." His thoughts stalled for a moment.
...Wait. When did I start taking things like dying so lightly?
His head tilted slightly mid-motion.
Am I going insane?....
He landed hard, boots skidding across stone.
"Well, who cares for now..." he muttered, lightning flaring wildly around his body, "let’s do it."
What Calix had decided was painfully simple.
If sharpness didn’t work, then brute force should.
No blade, no technique, no skill.
Just raw power.
The risk was also pretty obvious.
To do this, he would have to close the distance between them completely. No dodging at range. No safe exchanges. One mistake, one miscalculation and it might spell his end.
And the Sliteren would simply tear him apart.
The monster reared up again, towering over him.
Calix bent his knees, mana surging violently through his body as purple lightning exploded around him like a storm breaking free.
In a streak of purple cutting through the surrounding black around him, the boy moved.
Calix had abandoned the defense entirely.
Only moving forward was the path.
In a blink, he was right in front of the Sliteren.
But the monster wasn’t some mindless beast that would allow itself to be trampled over so easily.
Pure amethyst wrapped around Calix’s fist, dense and violent, as chaotic thunder bloomed around it. The air screamed under the pressure.
He threw his punch.
BOOOOM
His fist slammed straight into the center of the Sliteren’s eyes.
The impact detonating like a thunderclap. Shockwaves rippled outwards, as stone fragments exploded from the monster’s face... cracks racing across its rocky armor.
Calix didn’t waste a second.
His instincts screaming to him.
He felt the tail coming before he saw it.
Planting his feet against the monster’s face, he pushed off hard, launching himself backward just as the Sliteren’s tail whipped forward towards him with a devastating force.
A heartbeat later...
CRUNCH!
The tail smashed straight into the Sliteren’s own mouth.
Thus...for the first time since the battle had began.
The monster screamed.
"Heirkkkk"
A shrieking, grinding howl tore from its throat, echoing across the battlefield as it writhed in agony, blood and rock spilling from its jaws.
Calix landed hard across the stone, pain ripping through his body as his chest heaved violently. Every breath burned harshly, as his lungs screamed for rest.
He didn’t give them any.
Giving even a single moment to this beast was suicide, he obviously didn’t have that luxury.
With a sharp flick of his wrist, Calix unleashed four arrows of condensed purple lightning, each one screeching through the air as they shot straight towards the Sliteren.
At the same time, his feet pushed off the ground as he also moved—closing the distance once more, lightning tearing behind him in jagged trails.
The arrows struck.
Two of them veered slightly off course, smashing uselessly against the monster’s armored body. Sparks scattering wildly, a clear proof of his fraying control over his attacks for now. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
But the other two...
They didn’t miss.
They pierced straight into the damaged area.
CRRRAAACK
The lightning arrows exploded on the instant impact, shattering what little protection had remained.
The Sliteren’s eyes were crushed.
The weakness had finally been penetrated.
Stone and flesh burst apart in a spray of debris and blood as the monster let out a deafening, agonized shriek.
Its massive body convulsing violently, thrashing around without any direction now, it’s tail smashing into the ground again and again as it lost its vision.
The earth trembled beneath the horrid rampage.
In its maddening frenzy, the Sliteren’s body began to glow. Cracks of black light ran through its rocky scales, and in the next instant...spikes of jagged stone erupted outward in every direction.
"Shit." Calix cursed.
He moved on instinct, twisting and dodging as fast as his battered body would allow. But there were too many.
One spike tore straight through his side, ripping flesh open as blood sprayed freely. Another sliced across his back, leaving a burning gash as he barely managed to avoid being skewered completely.
"Tch!" His teeth clenched hard, pain threatening to drown his senses.
The Sliteren continued thrashing, blind and furious, destroying everything around it. Looking at the beats Calix spat blood onto the ground.
"...Just fucking die." Saying that he blasted forward.
Purple lightning detonated beneath his feet as he charged straight into the convulsing beast. He grabbed the Sliteren’s tail with both hands, muscles screaming as he swung his body upward, using its own massive weight to launch himself high into the air.
The world tilted.
Wind and sand roared past his ears.
In midair, Calix clenched his fist.
Blinding light erupted around it, mana compressed so violently it began to go feral, lightning tearing itself apart around his arm. His bones felt like they were about to shatter under the pressure.
With his other hand, he slashed downward.
The slash struck first.
And in that exact instant.
Calix punched.
BOOOOOOM
His fist crashed into the Sliteren’s skull, as the stone finally shattered.
The force caved straight through its head, lightning and light exploding outward as the monster’s massive body went rigid.
For a heartbeat, everything froze.
Then the Sliteren collapsed.
It’s body slamming into the ground, lifeless, the glow fading from its scales as silence finally returned to the battlefield.
Calix fell after it.
[You have killed the Stone Sliteren.]
He hit the ground hard, rolling once before coming to a stop, blood pooling beneath him. His arm trembled violently. His vision blurring.
"...Hah... hah..."
The monster was dead and Calix was barely still standing.
