Endless Horde: Through the Eyes of a Godking-Chapter 598: Father and Sons Bonding (III)
--
Gilderoy's mana exploded, exerting enormous pressure on his surroundings. His aura felt like a rudely awakened beast, pressing down on the hearts of those who could feel it.
His golden eyes flared dangerously, then he slammed the butt of his staff on the ground and yelled:
"Nihility Zone!"
Zwang!!
An enormous magical circle appeared with him at its center; its size covered every square inch of land there was in this 'playground.' It then released a buzzing sound that fluctuated all over the world, and then...there was silence.
The atmosphere turned strange and eerie. Even the crowd couldn't understand what Gilderoy did just now because the spell had no visible effect; they even thought that the spell failed.
This pause was very brief. Once again, the brothers began their onslaught against their father; this time it's even more ferocious than before.
"Hoho..." Cedric let out an impressed laugh as he met the ferocity of his sons calmly.
He fell into a rather passive situation where he mostly just defended himself. He's still steamrolling his sons for the most part, though, so the crowd truly couldn't understand what's going on.
"Did the spell fail?" one of Gerald's friends asked.
"If so, then that's a shame," another one commented.
"It didn't," the Holy Spirit declared, causing them to look at him. "I don't know what the spell did, but I'm certain it didn't fail. Something definitely changed; I'm just too slow to figure out what it is."
Linus, who's been watching the entire fight since it started and barely following what's going on, turned to his master's wife and asked, "Mistress? What did master do? Do you know?"
Allura stroked the little guy's head and said, "Yes, I do. He's my husband, after all."
"The spell he used is called 'Nihility Zone,' as you heard. It could be considered a Forbidden Spell, and it's something he invented. Its effects are simple; it severs the target's connection with Concept Laws within the area of effect, which means that in this 'playground,' your Grandmaster can no longer wield the power of laws, which weakened him in this specific aspect."
"Holy hell..." somebody from Gerald's friend group muttered in awe as they heard the effects of the spell.
Now that the effect of the spell was revealed, the difference was made clear looking at the ongoing fight.
Cedric can indeed no longer use the concept laws to do his bidding. The attacks he could previously simply ignore because of the spatial blockade he had around him were now forcing him to acknowledge them and assess their threat to him.
Now, don't get it twisted, Cedric wasn't threatened at all. Even in the face of the overwhelming ocean of projectiles that could potentially kill him where he stood, even with his connection with the concept laws severed, still posed no real problem to him.
The Nihility Zone only severed his connection with the Concept Laws; it didn't, or couldn't, however, get rid of his skills, combat instincts, and his access to his nigh-limitless source of Chaos Energy.
Linus was impressed, but his expression remained weird. Because even though he could barely figure out what's happening in the fight, it was clear to him that Grandmasters surely don't look weakened at all.
"How can Grandmaster still be fast and strong like that? I thought he was supposed to be weakened?" he asked.
"Well, that's because your Grandmaster was a phenomenal warrior first before he became proficient in controlling concept laws," Allura replied. "Your master's spell can only sever your Grandmaster's connection with concept laws. It didn't weaken him physically, it didn't make him dumb, or restrain him in other aspects aside from concept laws."
"More importantly, your Grandmaster is much more of a genius than your Master. Everything your Master knows came from your Grandmaster...well, the foundations, at least. I'm sure that if your Grandmaster truly wanted to, your Master would never have the chance to cast that spell at all."
"So Grandmaster allowed them to do that?"
"Exactly."
"Why? Aren't they sparring?"
"This is much more than sparring, little one." Allura dotingly said, "This was his children proving to him that they didn't slack off while he was away at work, that he doesn't have to worry about their safety because they're strong enough to protect themselves. This is your Master and your Uncle Master's way of comforting your Grandmaster, so why would he ruin their chances of displaying just how exactly they plan on doing that?"
Linus finally understood the deeper meaning after hearing this. Now, he watched the fight with more fervor because it was truly admirable.
Meanwhile, amidst the raging battle and the swarm of flashing lights, Cedric still wore that pleased smile on his face.
With a measured and confident stride forward, he moved just far enough to avoid the deadly projectiles heading his way before slashing his sword horizontally to deflect those who swerved at the very last moment.
Each move he made was measured and had purpose. There wasn't a single wasted movement he made; there were no mistakes, too.
Gerald stuck to him like glue. His beautiful sword flashed coldly, leaving trails of burning ice in its wake. Cedric met his blows with equivalent force to neutralize it. Sometimes, he would move slightly faster to account for his other sons who were trying to take advantage of his occupancy.
He would jump up, trying to evade the man-eating flowers that Gilderoy summoned. He would dodge Godwyn's shot, which should've hit him, all while keeping Gerald close and engaged.
As the fight raged on and he felt that his sons were finally in the zone, Cedric grinned and decided to push them even more.
Boom!
The brothers were greatly alarmed before the explosion happened. Their intuition flared, causing them to make sufficient preparations because their father was now taking them a bit more seriously.
And to prove that point, they all saw his grip on his sword tightening. Once again, their instincts screamed at them to evade, and that's what they did because when their father swung his sword, he took out a huge chunk of the land, just like that.
Looking at their father's training sword, they could sense the faint glimmer of sharpness on its edge. This was Sword Intent, the bare minimum of it. Yet even just a sliver of that thing did this to their environment.
Cedric paused after doing that attack. He looked at his sons just long enough to express what he meant. That the next round will be like this.
Instead of getting intimidated, the Stormrider Brothers exploded with even more of their potential to meet the challenge.
Godwyn revealed his hidden edge; it was his Sniping Intent, which made Cedric feel like a predator was watching him from a distance. The sniping intent not only increases the likelihood of Godwyn hitting his target; he could also use it as a marking point so that his next attacks will seek his target instead. It also increases the penetrative power of his shots moving forward.
Gilderoy focused. Unlike his brothers, who prefer cold weapons, his expertise was with magic and all of its facets, so that's what he'll use. Elemental Magic, Witchcraft, Secret and Forbidden Spells—Gilderoy has loads of them that he's more than willing to unleash upon his father.
Gerald's heart beat for the sword. He had condensed a Sword Heart long ago because of this, which increased his lethality with a sword to an astonishing 500%. This, along with his expertise in Ice and Fire laws, just elevated his prowess even further. There's not a lot of people that can make him all out like this; his father was definitely one of them.
This momentary pause and reactions happened in the course of mere seconds before the father and sons were at it again. This time, their clash was proving to be even more intense than before.
Despite Gerald's Sword Heart taking effect along with his utilization of laws, Cedric's sliver of sword intent still managed to neutralize him. In fact, Gerald was even being pushed back by the sheer mastery of his father's sword technique.
Gilderoy unleashed both spatial and temporal magic to interfere, but Cedric just sliced through his spells like they were tofu. As for Godwyn's nasty, opportunistic, and deadly snipes coming from varying angles, Cedric sliced through them too, although he would deflect some from time to time.
And just to drive the point that the brothers were truly too young to defeat him...
Cedric held his sword in both hands to slash at Gerald, sending a large crescent energy that pushed the ice prince far back. Then, he kicked the ground with enough precision to launch a boulder up, which he then kicked towards Gilderoy, who had to interrupt his spell casting to evade.
Then, he leaned back, raised an arm, and caught Godwyn's arrow with his bare hands. He then twisted his body and threw the arrow like a javelin towards Godwyn, and his throw was accompanied by a force strong enough that the arrow flew faster than it did before it came to him. He even left a sliver of his sword intent to it, which sought out Godwyn like a heat-seeking missile.
As he stared at his sons dealing with his retaliation with an amused smile, he said:
"Come on, boys, show me more."
