Enslaved To The Alphas-Chapter 229: Divination Results
Teacher Shim walked out of his house in the dead of the night, moving quickly down the empty path straight towards another house. His steps were uneven, almost frantic, and he kept muttering something under his breath. Once he reached the door, he lifted his hand and knocked hard, as if every second mattered.
"Teacher Shim! What are you doing here?" a voice whispered sharply from inside.
Without another word, Teacher Shim pushed his way into the house the moment the door opened. He didn’t bother with greetings. He didn’t bother with explanations. He went straight to the point, hissing, "What did you do, Raymon?"
Councilman Raymon Vye frowned at the older man’s sudden entry, his eyes narrowing in confusion. "What is wrong with you? What are you even talking about? I’ve been here since returning from the Pack house. What could I have possibly done?" His tone was defensive, but there was a slight tremble under it.
Teacher Shim did not explain. His jaw was tight, his breathing rough, and instead of answering, he reached into his pocket. He pulled out a few dark stones—stones that looked harmless at first glance—and threw them at the Councilman’s feet. The stones, as soon as they touched Raymon’s skin, sizzled and hissed sharply before dropping onto the floor with a dull clatter.
"This is what you have done?" Teacher Shim whispered, furious and shaken at the same time. "You are serving the dark master? And you even used shady methods to manipulate the Princes so that they would believe she is their mate. What is wrong with you, Raymon? How far are you willing to go?"
Raymon Vye froze. A cold shiver ran through his spine. His eyes went straight to the stones-now lying harmlessly on the ground-and then back to Teacher Shim. Panic flickered across his face for a brief second before he wiped it away. How did he discover this? Who told him? No, no... this could not spread. If Teacher Shim said anything outside...
Councilman Raymon’s mind moved quickly, racing through excuses and lies as fast as his fear increased. He could pretend he knew nothing. He could pretend that all of this was a misunderstanding. He could pretend that his daughter simply loved the three princes dearly. If the man believed it-good. If he didn’t... then Raymon would silence him, of course. He would have had no choice left.
"Teacher Shim. Please, listen to me," he said, forcing his voice to sound hurt, confused, innocent. "I don’t know... I truly don’t know what you are talking about."
But Teacher Shim shook his head and snapped at the man. "Don’t think you can act in front of me. You think I am a fool? All these years, you kept a good relationship with me, always asking about the young princes’ preferences—what food they liked, what habits they had, what things comforted them. And I answered you honestly, thinking you cared about the boys."
His voice grew sharper. "But now I see why you were so interested. You only wanted the right information so you could ask for a perfect concoction—something that would fool them into believing your daughter was their mate."
"What are you talking about? She is their fated mate."
Teacher Shim scoffed. "Try and fool someone else. I’ve already divined the birth details of that person who is their fated mate. And Ramona is not that person. So, why do the princes believe that she is their mate?
He pointed at Raymon, anger rising in his eyes. "You are quite cunning, I must say, Councilman Raymon. Too cunning. You didn’t even spare your own daughter from your schemes. You took away her chance to have a true fated mate, all because you wanted power and status."
"What are you even talking about?"
Teacher Shim let out a slow, disappointed breath. "You want to know what I’m talking about? Fine. I’ll tell you." He took a step closer, lowering his voice but not the sharpness in it. "Councilman Aldren came to me tonight. He came because he was suspicious of the princes’ protectiveness over Emira."
Raymon’s eyes widened just a little, and that was the first real crack in his calm mask.
Teacher Shim continued, "Aldren might not possess dark arts, but you know he can read that magic well! And yet, here you are roaming with the dark master’s mark without doing anything to hide it. Aldren was worried that their behavior didn’t match what he expected from three men who had already found their mate. He wondered if Emira was their true mate instead. He wondered if someone had tampered with fate."
Raymon’s jaw clenched hard. His breathing grew uneven.
Teacher Shim saw it all and snorted loudly. "Now you show fear. Now you panic." He shook his head. "But where was this fear when you were doing all this? When you followed dark practices and tricks? When you played with destinies that weren’t yours to touch?"
Raymon didn’t answer. He stared at the floor, shoulders stiff, as if he was trying to hold himself together.
But Teacher Shim wasn’t done. "Look at me," he snapped.
Raymon lifted his head slowly.
"Get your act together, Raymon. Aldren is already suspicious. His mind is sharp. His loyalty to his mission is strong. If he continues digging, he will reach the truth sooner or later. And if he discovers it, you will not be able to deny anything. Not even for a second."
Raymon’s throat bobbed as he swallowed.
"You need to do something to divert his attention from Emira," Teacher Shim continued. His voice had dropped to a harsh whisper. "This time, you were lucky. Very lucky. Because Aldren came to me with his suspicions. If he had gone to someone else directly, what do you think would have happened? Hmm?"
Raymon’s face turned pale. He shook his head slowly, as if the idea itself was unbearable.
"I did a divinity reading," Teacher Shim said. "And I told him that Ramona is their true mate. I told him that Emira was using the dark arts to drive a wedge between them."
Raymon let out a shaky breath then and nodded.
Teacher Shim stepped closer again. "Do you understand how close this came to collapsing? One wrong word, one wrong hint, and Aldren would have erased everything we have done. So, be quick and arrange what the dark master told you, before Aldren gets his hands on Emira or discovers that you and me have already switched allegiances."
